Smack in the face or a kick in the nuts?

According to the rules then you'll never see another overhead kick scored. It'dd be dangerous every single time in the box.

I don't think it was a red as there was clearly no intent there whatsoever, he wasn't even aware Arbs was there, watched the ball all the way and jumped to try and control it.

But anyway that's just my opinion. It was fucking hilarious though.

I'd say a player is probably expected to have a good idea of the players he is endangering. If for some reason you can't have a look round to see if you might smash someone in the face then, yeah, I reckon people shouldn't be trying overhead kicks.

I don't think ignorance is an excuse.

And obv all agreed on the hilarity point.

Properly LOLing I was, just sitting on my own. That's fairly rare.

The Manchester United manager failed to fulfil media obligations in the aftermath of the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid after the Portuguese was controversially sent off
Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after he failed to fulfil his media obligations following the 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
More to follow...

Hahaha.

I don't get the fuss; it was dangerous. Roy Keane had it spot on. People are going on about instinct, but in Rugby it's instinctual to tackle someone in the air, rather than wait for them to land, but you do it now and you're off. There's no difference.

If any Liverpool player is sent off for something similar, I'd have no complaints.

Also, a traditional overhead kick is less dangerous than raising your foot that high to control a ball.

There's nothing about intent in the rules. Dangerous play innit.

I was of the opinion that it wasn't red last night. I don't really give a fuck. It was just ace. It still is. It will continue to be for some time.

Pretty much how I feel. The whole thing is even better for Fergies ranting and being distraught and now getting done by UEFA. The press indignation is just brilliant to read as well. How dare UEFA officials besmirch the name of the brave knights of English football. Hahahahahaha. . And scum fans ringing up 999 in protest at the red card. Paddy Crerands rant at Keane. It's the gift that just keeps on giving. Imagine if this became a regular occurrence. Wonderful.

It sounds lame, but it's been one of the footie highlights of this year. Not so much that their out, but seeing all the closet United fans feeling so indignant and offended.

Adrian Chiles was all over the place.

I was buzzing how the auld lush Crerand was going on about Arbeloa being foreign and rolling around and saying how Nani just got up and got on with the game. He must have watched it in the pub because its not what I saw. Typical hypocrisy backed up as per by a media who just love crawling up their arses. They've always been the football darlings of the media, even when they were shit and won fuck all.

Losing in what some people see as controversial circumstances just make it so much sweeter.
Having said that who is to say that they would still not have lost, RM would have still brought on Modric at some point and he did make a difference.
United had the chances, but they were never really in control up to the sending off anyway.

It is hilarious though.

People wouldn't even bother attempting them if you thought youd give a foul away and get sent off, that's what I'm saying.

But yeah, funniest night I've had in a while like.

Enjoyed this one:

If this happened in Europe - Red Card
If this happened in Premier League - Yellow Card
If Webb was ref - Yellow Card for Arbeola

The Rafael penalty and red card doesnt get much mentioned by Utd and the media.
They were lucky aswell.

Today has been one long day of bitter Utd fans and hundreds of experts saying its not a red card.
I wonder if Arbeloa had done that to Nani, had there been written that much about it? Hell no.

Fuck off Utd and their bitter cuntish fans

Should Alvaro Arbeloa have been sent off during Man United 1 – Real Madrid 2?

Coming up to 24 hours since kick off of Manchester United’s home defeat to Real Madrid and the inquest into the game and refereeing decisions continues.
Manchester United fans are now voicing their concerns over a challenge in the first half from Real Madrid right back Alvaro Arbeloa, who was of course the victim of Nani’s infamous foul that saw the Portuguese winger sent off.
Arbeloa took a poor touch and hit Patrice Evra high up on the knee with a studs up challenge that was awarded a yellow card by referee Cuneyt Cakir.
In comparison to Nani’s red card early in the second half, Arbeloa may well have been lucky to stay on the pitch until he was substituted for game changer Luka Modric.
Comparison GIFs via Beautifully Red are below with a video of the Arbeloa foul on Patrice Evra, which in all truth was a yellow but is now being painted in a poor light due to the Nani decision, right?

Amazing bit of skill from Arbeloa there. What has happened to him, he looked extremely poor last night??

That's a yellow btw but far less a red that Nani's lunge.

Manchester United's elimination from the Champions League by Real Madrid, who won at Old Trafford, could cost them at least £22 million.
Sir Alex Ferguson's side had looked set to progress as they led the Spanish side 1-0 at Old Trafford, but goals from Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo after Nani's controversial sending off put them out.

United will bank £34 million in prize money from UEFA, compared to the £30.4 million earned when they failed to get out of their group last season.

But a run to the final would have seen their UEFA earnings top £56 million, with almost as much again earned through sponsorship bonuses, merchandise revenue and gate and TV money.

United's early exit last season saw club revenues fall for the first time since the Glazers family took over.
