Of course any fan of a smaller nation would. I'll be gutted if we don't make it. My point as a world sport most nations and fans would rather see France and Portugal than Ireland Slovenia at the next world cup. That's the bottom line and you have to see the reasoning from Fifa.
 
if its straight knock out, anything can happen in 90 mins. for instance france v ireland in a one off 90 min game isn't a gimme.

Yeah but Fuck Sepp Blatter and Fifa. They are shifting the goalposts so to speak at a very late stage in the qualifying process to help the bigger teams who fucked up their previously qualifying matches. Everyone understands Fifa viewpoint and reasoning but why condone it or agree with it.

For the record England have never beaten Ireland at a World Cup or Euro's whereas Ireland have beaten England. For a small nation they do a whole lot more than make up the numbers. All England seem to do is cause trouble whereas the Irish fans win the Fifa fair play award every tournament they go to, so a world cup with Ireland would be much greater enhanced than a world cup with England!

Yes. Actually I think they should change the whole qualifying procedure for the next World Cup.
You only need 3 gourps.
Group one should contain France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Holland and England in a series of round robin matches, with the top 7 to qualify.
Group two should contain the next top 6 based on the World rankings(of television audiences, not those silly football ones), with the top 6 in that group to also qualify.
Group three contains every other European nation, with the top team to qualify.

Obviously the third group is only really there to provide a little variation, so the same team should not be allowed win in on more than one occasion.

I think this is the best way to guarantee the best teams in the world cup and also some really exciting money making matches in the qualifiers.

What do you think?
