He looks timid, hesitant and rusty. Should probably spend less time getting stoned with Scooby Doo in the back of the mystery machine.

Although he was losing a lot of aerial battles we have to admit that he wasn't the only shit player, I didn't think too highly of the fullbacks, keeper or any of the midfield.

The other way to look at it though, is that if you want to convince people that you're good enough, then seize the bloody opportunities given to you and shine. You can't gripe about not getting minutes when you don't impress enough when precious minutes are granted to you. I know it's hard when you don't play regularly (and worse still when you're playing out of position, though that's not the case for Coates), but for me, that's what separates the men from the boys. If you want it badly enough, push yourself to shine. You get a few chances each season, and you've got to do well enough in most of these games to show that you deserve more chances after that.

Guys like Kelly, Sterling, Suso, and even Wisdom to some extent, took their chances when they were given them. They may be inconsistent, but they've shown enough shiny moments when they broke through to earn more opportunities. Pacheco is an example of someone who got chances under Hodgson and a couple of times under Rodgers but didn't really advance his case with his appearances. Ditto for Morgan so far this season but there's still time for him.

The fullbacks were shit, hardly ever got forward, not helped by our center backs were on the edge of their own 18 yard box. Wisdom is ok at right back and shit going forward. Our central midfield is weak as shit.

Our spine is brittle. All the nice football and interplay at times is great to watch. However irrespective of how well we are playing in a given game we look like we can concede at any minute. I think that is partly the players playing at center back and central midfield and the coaching or lack of it.

We need an imposing DM and some decent cover in the full-back and central defense positions.

Looks like we have made 'some' progress under Rogers but gone seriously backwards in other areas, namely the defense.

I reckon his agent paid the Uruguay boss to get him in the team or something. I mean he's just fucking toss.

He looked ok the first few games he has played, also looked good in the Copa America. He can be very good in the air but he has a mistake in him. This can be ironed out through playing games but today he was just a giant pussy. Big giant pussy.

£90m on Carroll, Henderson, Adam, Downing, Enrique, and Coates.

That's starting to look like really questionable business.

You can add 15 million on Allen and 11 m on Borini to that list.

It is a bit too early to really rate them but I am not sure if both of them will live up to their price tag.

I've not seen Coates have one outstanding game for us. Yes he needs a consistent run but likewise he has to take his chance when presented to him.

Has he had 2 games in a row? Not sure. Sell him or send him on loan. Although after today's performance not sure there will be any takers.

Grêmio's executive director Rui Costa asked if the club will sign Seba Coates this January: "Forget. You can forget about that."

We probably overpaid by 15m for Carroll - but it was the situation at the time - and we sold Torres for more than he was worth. Hindsight is nice though I still think Carroll has the ability to justify that fee .... but maybe not the attitude. Henderson has started to justify his fee, Downing to at least look worth half what we paid and Enrique has looked good value for stretches of his time at Anfield. Which leaves Coates and Adam for whom we are able to get the money back - more or less. So 25m lost, but with Torres its mostly offset.

Are you Commoli in disguise?

He was spectacularly poor today... but he wasn't alone. Borini offered bugger all, and Robinson was petulant and naive at best. Jones also had his worst game to date... Butland for £6m is looking like a steal if we get him.

No - I just think its too easy to get very negative about these things, and it doesn't help. Not having a go at Peter at all, who has a lot of good stuff to say. But there is a tendency amongst other team's supporters, which is backed up by our own, to write our players off very quickly. We were lucky Lucas had the right mentality and fought through it once. We may get lucky that Henderson seem to be fighting through it.

Uruguayan journos tweeting that Coates has played his last game for us. Will probably sign for Gremio

His performance just smacked of a player playing with no confidence. Hardly surprising in fairness. If someone's offering 7 million id take hand and all.

I wont be gutted to see him go. Too many mistakes and too relaxed to be a top centre back.
I would favour seeing him play out on loan though. In case he steps up.

That would be the ideal situation. But if he goes out we'll need to get some cover in. Not sure that of the young lads can cover that position
