Ha.

Some tempting names there but Mohammed Al Flypaper will absolutely stiff us on the price, especially since he can't over Hodgson himself.

A pretty uninspiring appointment but I'm not going to slag him, the owners or powers that be until I've seen what he does for us.

Yep.

Its amazing how you can get such information from standing on top of a bin on the outside of a wall at Melwood.
What's even more surprising is he lives nearer to me than he does Melwood. I I live in South East Spain. He lives about 60 miles away just outside Benidorm.

Hodgson is a safe appointment. Most of the top coaches are currently employed anyway. At least he is well travelled and probably has a wide network of contacts.

With a potential transfer kitty of 50 million which includes the proceeds from the sales of Mascherano & Benayoun, its going to be very interesting.

I agree with you Sheiky. Hopefully everyone will give him a fair crack at it first before jumping to conclusions.

Can I now change this to Hodgson4PM?

I don't think so mate.

I almost regret to say, I don't have an issue with the idea of Hodgson, I think he is exactly what we need right now , a steady pair of hands, respected and respectful and who talks great sense.
We need a manager who understands the English game and the psychology of it all.
He is a humble man and probably much more akin to some of the great managers of the past.
I say it again, the way Rafa had gone and was heading anyone will be an improvement.

That's all true Vlad, but have you seen the brand of football Fulham have served up these last two years? Rafa mk II, percentage football.

I guess Hodgson might be a tad more adventurous with substitutions, but otherwise more of the same.

No thanks.
To be honest Buddah, and I don't mean to come across arsey, but I don't give a fuck how we play as long as we win, and have felt the same for forty years.
Sometimes in that period we have played exciting expansive football, but for most we have not.
Style of play was never my problem with Rafa

I agree in terms of style of play, although Rafa's failure to gamble in order to win games, something we see much more from the top teams, was always a problem. I'm very underwhelmed by this appointment if it happens, but I hope my worries prove unfounded.

Is it just me or are there posters on this site trying to convince themselves that appointing Hodgson is OK simply because he's not Benitez?

Weeks ago it was said we'd rue making a change under pressure and here we have the proof. This is choosing from the bargain bin.

If this goes ahead it'll be a second class appointment for a first class job. As with any Liverpool Manager I'll support Hodgson but with little expectation other than looking forward to a dynamic, progressive Manager to be appointed sooner rather than later.

Mate, a monkey would make a better manager than Rafa. He had reached a point of no return, and his biggest strengths had become his weaknesses.

This has been done to death. A million times.

I would honestly have taken anyone who's name has been linked with us this summer. Anyone.
I agree. Whoever came in was going to make me happy really.

That much is self evident.

What's the betting in the not too distant future you'll be claiming the same as Hodgson departs (humbly of course) unable to take the pressure of expectation.

If that makes you and others happy so be it.

Liverpool needs a strong Manager with personality not a nice man.

Well i think we could of done a lot worse than Roy, but i'll never agree with the idea that "anyone except Rafa" is the right move (thats just hatred taking over from common sense).

Like you said though it's been done to death, so i'll leave it there.

part one of the asset stripping accomplished.

Can you explain what asset stripping is ?

Can you explain how hiring a manager begins that process ?

Bellends who moaned like fuck to get rid of Benitez now moaning like fuck that a manager who hasn't even held a team talk is going to lead us into oblivion. Fucking dickheads.

Liverpool set to announce Roy Hodgson as manager

Roy Hodgson Liverpool are confident of bringing Roy Hodgson to Liverpool.

Liverpool expect to finalise the appointment of Roy Hodgson as the club's new manager following his return from South Africa today. The Fulham manager, who has been commenting at the World Cup for the BBC, has been the frontrunner for the Liverpool job since Rafael Benítez left Anfield this month and could be confirmed as the Spaniard's successor within days.

Liverpool have considered several candidates for the position, including the former Real Madrid and Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini, but Kenny Dalglish, the club legend asked to conduct the managerial search alongside the managing director, Christian Purslow, is not in the running.

Anfield officials are confident of securing a deal with Hodgson now that he has returned from South Africa and with his prospects of being offered the chance to succeed Fabio Capello as England manager diminished by the national team's World Cup victory over Slovenia.

It is understood the make-up of Hodgson's backroom staff is one of the issues to be resolved prior to his appointment, with the 62-year-old keen to bring the Fulham assistant manager, Mike Kelly, with him to Merseyside.

While Liverpool await the arrival of their next manager, Yossi Benayoun is close to leaving Anfield for Chelsea after the two clubs agreed a £5m fee for the Israel international.
