Roy Hodgson

Jexykrodic can non-exclusively reveal this from SkySports:

Skysports.com understands Liverpool have lined up a move for Galatasaray boss Frank Rijkaard as they search for a new manager.

The Reds are still hunting a replacement for Rafa Benitez following the Spaniard's departure from Anfield earlier this month.

A number of names have been linked with the Anfield hot-seat, including Fulham boss Roy Hodgson and former Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini and now Rijkaard has come under consideration from the Liverpool board.

Former Holland international Rijkaard is regarded as one of the best coaches in Europe following his success at Barcelona, where he won two Spanish titles and the UEFA Champions League during his tenure at Camp Nou.

Compensation
Sources in Turkey claim Liverpool have approached Galatasaray twice in the last week to seek permission to talk to Rijkaard, but that the Turkish club have rejected their overtures.

Rijkaard, who took over at Galatasaray in June 2009, has just a year to run on his current deal, meaning Liverpool may not have to fork out a high compensation fee if they can agree a deal with Galatasaray for the 47-year-old.

The Dutchman is believed to be keen on managing in the Premier League at some stage in his career, but Galatasaray are reluctant to lose his services.

Liverpool are keen to sort out their managerial situation as soon as possible and they could be forced look elsewhere if Galatasaray fail to release Rijkaard.

I have no idea who his source is but a mate here in Ireland (not on this site) said he received a text this morning from a very reliable source that Roy will be the next manager.
Make of it what you will.

If it's true it'll be the saddest news I've heard regarding Liverpool FC for a long time.

I am not exactly over the moon by the news either.

Well without being overwhelmed I think this is better than getting Pellegrini.

Who were we thinking we would get anyway.

Well, we have to accept it, haven't we?

But at least we should try to overcome it. Can we make it with Hodgson? I dunno. We'll see.

I don't have the will and the power and the nerves to get upset anymore.

Liverpool have dismissed rumours that Kenny Dalglish had left his post at the club's youth academy.

Reports earlier this week had suggested that the 59-year-old would reconsider his position at the club if he was overlooked for the vacant manager's position in favour of Fulham's Roy Hodgson, who is heavily tipped to be unveiled as Rafael Benitez's successor.

Early today an unnamed supporters' message board claimed that Dalglish, who returned to the club last summer, had quit his role as an ambassador for the Reds' centre of excellence in Kirkby but a club spokesman has allayed fears from concerned fans by denying these allegations.

The spokesman said: "There is no truth in this rumour.

"Supporters reading that forum may have been concerned if they have seen the posting - but they should not be."

Are they talking about Koptalk here as well I wonder?

By "acceptance" I don't mean a clear-eyed understanding of the situation, which is obv.necessary. I mean a frame of mind which says to itself "This is the best we can currently hope for" instead of saying "This is not acceptable, and we have to fight like fury to move up and away from here". I see a Hodgson appointment, if it happens, as falling very much under the first heading.

Well, we can only hope the rumour of the billionaire sheik who is going to build the stadium is also true.

Hodgson now 1.3 on Betfair.looks ominous

I'll be hoping that's the result of "followers of fashion" rather than a reflection of reality, as when Mourinho was favourite for so long.

I almost regret to say, I don't have an issue with the idea of Hodgson, I think he is exactly what we need right now , a steady pair of hands, respected and respectful and who talks great sense.
We need a manager who understands the English game and the psychology of it all.
He is a humble man and probably much more akin to some of the great managers of the past.
I say it again, the way Rafa had gone and was heading anyone will be an improvement.

regards

A pretty uninspiring appointment but I'm not going to slag him, the owners or powers that be until I've seen what he does for us.

That's all true Vlad, but have you seen the brand of football Fulham have served up these last two years? Rafa mk II, percentage football.

I guess Hodgson might be a tad more adventurous with substitutions, but otherwise more of the same.

No thanks.

I agree with you Sheiky. Hopefully everyone will give him a fair crack at it first before jumping to conclusions.

There's a case to be made for your final sentence, old chum, but I'm afraid I don't agree that Hodgson's "exactly what we need right now" and I doubt new owners will either, which will be another unnecessary wrinkle to have to sort out. I'll support him if he does get the job, but we could undoubtedly do better IMHO.

There's some degree of perspective needed over this. When he took over, Fulham were in real danger of being relegated. He tightened them up, stuck to the basics and had a set system and stuck to it. Who's to say he wouldn't loosen up a bit with a better side? His main task at Fulham was to not get relegated, and on fairly limited funds too.

Nothing in his background suggests he will loosen up either. Appointing him with that recent history is either (a) a leap in the dark or (b), even worse IMO, suggestive of a view that our situation is similar to Fulham's and therefore needs a similar response.

Hangeland, and on last seasons form we could probably do worse than Zamora as an option from the bench.
