He just needs to produce wins.

I think this is the first thing we've ever agreed on.

when and if uncle roy is appointed manager he will get my support (and goodness only knows I'm more patient than most) but until then I can say I think he is a shite choice, he isn't liverpool's manager, yet.

Wrong.

You now agree with me about Tommy Bowe 😉

Sometimes you just can't help expressing how you feel however irrational. You'd recognise that wouldn't you?

he knows exactly what I mean. why the fuck do I have to show patience or loyalty to someone who hasn't even been appointed yet?

Yeah I watch you do it about Rafa all the time Jexy.
Rafa's left mate. It was in all the papers.

It's time you moved on.

It's too soon to write off Hodgson, yes.

But come on, what kind of signal are we sending out?

Rafa was a gamble, and for a while was a great success before it all went south..but if we bring in Hodgson, it just reeks to me of 'safe'..he's a solid, stable manager..but no one here thinks he's going to be able to outwit the best managers in England and Europe...The board was right to sack Rafa if it believed he couldnt turn things around (a belief I share), but to appoint a replacement manager who's clearly tactically inferior to Rafa doesnt make sense.

Why does a manager need to bring excitement and charisma ?
Exactly. I could have said the same thing when I heard Bob Paisley was being appointed to take over from Shanks

He's a decent manager who has normally done a good job at clubs who are not at a stage where they are challenging for the title, which is us right now sadly.

I know people wanted someone a bit more glamorous but if we appoint Woy we'll get a manager who knows English football, so none of the time to adjust Benitez needed (and arguably never really understood), who also knows European football and who knows exactly the situation he is taking on.

Is this confirmed?

At times i'm confused by the internet punditry on offer here. We have quite a lot of people who criticized Rafa for playing 4-3-2-1 instead of 4-4-2, and at the same time call Capello out for playing 4-4-2 instead of 4-3-2-1.....its just baffling.

We couldv done alot worse than hodgson, but also done alot better. I actually like him and will give him a chance if he becomes our manager. Not expecting a miracle from him in his first season. Hope he puts europa aside and concentrates on the league

Very important point. We are in the shit now. The only thing that changes is the depth. Some of the names being bandied about wouldnt touch us with a barge pole. If and when Roy is appointed lets give him some credit, and a chance.

Not that I'm one of these people you describe, but the best formation for a given team depends to a large extent on the personnel available. As such, the above scenerio is not quite as baffling as you seem to think it is.

This, and it's entirely legitimate to raise such concerns before the guy's even been signed up, so let's not have any more of this "give him a chance" eyewash. If he gets the job, then by all means we should get behind him. Until then, the idea of appointing him is absolutely fair game.

FFS Terrier, you usually speak some sense, granted a little irascible most of the time, but I usually agree with most of what you say.
Other than Mourninho, which was a pipe dream, I can't really think of anyone else that would have been a wow factor choice.
Hodgson ticks many of the boxes that we need, maybe not all , but probably more than any other possibility.

As for "splitting" the fans, any fucking appointment was going to do that, everyone has a bleeding opinion, and it seems to me that the problem here is people are not willing to change opinions, based on facts and performance it seems to be viewed as a sign of weakness.
When Rafa arrived I got behind the man, I thought he was the right man for the job, and made judgments by what he did for Liverpool and how he did it, by season three I knew there was a problem, and I changed my mind.
As far as I am concerned Hodgson will be afforded the same rights, until I think he is doing more harm than good, or there is a better option, until that point I will stick with him.
The trouble now is, and this is where "splitting the fans" comes in, is that people who are particularly bigoted against the man, before he has even signed for us, like you for instance, will be picking holes in everything he does ad nauseum
So with my wise old mans hat on I say, shut the fuck up and give him a chance....thanks

Fair enough...

We had just one striker for the better part of last two seasons though. I don't really know if anything other 4-3-2-1 was a realistic option for us.

I hope Hodgson makes the best out of what he gets, if he really is appointed as the manager.

I would have preferred Dalglish. Although i'm underwhelmed by this appointment, i'll be rooting for him next season. Go Team Hodgson!

Now that, my dear Avvy, depends on which tactics you are talking about. If it is the clever two leg European tactics, then we will have to wait and see, there may be a point there, who knows?
If it is the tactic about playing one up front at home against some of the also-rans of the premier league, or playing Crouch and Voronin and twin wingers, then there is an element of doubt in your assertions.
As to JJ's idea he is not the manager yet so he is still fair game, it seems pretty nailed on to me , the speculation has even started as to who is taking the Fulham job, and thus it seems a pretty petty thing to keep throwing brick-bats until the second he has signed up.

Dalglish didn't absolutely want the job and is backing Roy. The only way Kenny would have been in charge was if England had been knocked out the WC.

Hodgsons coming - we need to support him now and hope he does a good job

I'm glad. Good solid appointment, on paper at least. I hope Woy can stabilise us and get the players smiling and winning again.

When he's announced (which seems to be inevitable) im 100% behind him! As i would have been regardless of who got the job! Im hoping that everybody has us down as outsiders for next season....and we'll surprise the lot of them! Thats right......the optimism begins ;D

When he's on the telly I'm going to throw imaginary tomatoes at Hodgson, or if the kids are in bed, moon him until he's appointed. Then I'll fall into line, and love him like the kindly cockney grandad I never had.

Good old Roy!!!
For the England Game the other day Linaker, Dixon, Shearer, Lawro, Mowbray and ALL the gathered press were convinced Gerrard was playing at the head of a diamond. Good old Roy looked Gabby weirdface in the eye and said 'NO!' he said Gerrard would play on the left.
Roy knows!
I like Roy!
I'm chuffed!
