I like him a lot. Suarez looks amazing but his attitude towards his team mates yesterday got me thinking about what a top dude Raul has been.
To come into this club, this season under that manager with these players and the negativity and depression that swilled around us and react the way he has, and play the way he has and show the effort, attitude and commitment he has is really commendable.
Most foreign players dont really settle year one, especially in midfield but fuck me if this is him settling in how good will he be next year.
Id love to play in his team, he is a dream player for us.
Keep it up lad. Youre already one of the first names on the teamsheet, and probably my player of the season.

I love him too. Liked him from day one. Thought he struggled a bit yesterday out of position though and is much more suited to an more advanced CM position. But he's a quality player all right. We need more of his ilk
In a 4-4-2 i want wingers and a dm modo.
Doesnt mean i do t like him.

The problem is that him, gerrard and Suarez play in the same position really.
I think it would work as
-------------------Carroll--------------------
Suarez-------------Raul--------------Gerrard
----------------------------------------------
-------------Lucas--------DM----------------

But it still means no width.

Love Meirles, because as you say it's been a tough season and he's been classy. No statements in the media like that mouthpiece Pepe Reina. I remember when nani went down, Meirles stayed beside him, comforting the guy, as he's portugese too. It was really classy, and says a lot about the reasons he'll be a legend here. Great guy, really loyal plus great talent = another didi hamann in the making (obviously he gets forward more, before some smart ALEC corrects me!)

Can't argue with you but I think Gerrard will be moving down the pitch. He'll probably be playing CM next season.

To be honest I'll be expecting this formation:

Gerrard Lucas

Meireles
New winger Suarez
Carroll

I think we need to buy two top class wide players in the summer and not worry about how we're going to shoehorn everyone into the side.

I agree about his attitude Oncy, Raul even had a cheeky grin and joke for Suarez when he (Suarez) came off. I think he's great, loved him in the world cup. I thought he'd relish a tackle more than he actually does but if he continues to hit the back of the onion sack i'll be happy.

Remember when Roy said "we still don't know where his best position is". I'll give Roy credit for signing him but he didn't seem to know what to do with him or where to play him.

Yeah that's a whole lot better now isn't it? He was left wing yesterday. I hear he's going to replace Pepe in the summer.

Raul did a job out on the left for us yesterday. It's better than playing Maxi out there. He has operated centrally a lot this season under both managers and has flourished and looked a better player because of it. I'm sure he will pop up all over the pitch before the season end but we have firmly established he is better when utilised through the middle.

Since turn of the year he's improved massively, before that he was very hit and miss for me, he was always talented but seemed to go missing.

Cant fault him from Jan onwards though, he's defo been our player of 2011.

I hope Kenny learnt his lesson playing him out wide though.

I love Raul, it caused me physical pain to see him playing on the left yesterday, we should have played 4231.

-------Spearing---Lucas----------
-----Kuyt------Meireless----Suarez--
------------------Carroll----------

He would have had a much bigger influence on the game. I hope we play that way vs West Brom, and when Gerrard's back, put him in and take Lucas out.

He's definitely player-of-the season in my eyes.

I don't understand the thread from last week about how poor our squad is..........when you have players like Carroll, Suarez, Meireles, Gerrard, Agger*, Reina, Johnson, Kuyt, Kelly and Carra you're on the way to having a top squad.

All we need is a left back, a right winger and defensive midfielder to replace the useless Lucas and we're close to a league winning squad, especially if one or two of the kids come through from the youth/reserve teams.

*If Agger didn't break every 5 minutes.

I know he plays well wherever we play him, but you can hardly hit Roy with that stick and then ignore it now.

I agree Brave, three signings is all we need.

Another half decent striker would be nice too.
I think Kuyt is very limited as a lone-striker or with a poor strike partner like N'Gog but as a secondary striker I think Kuyt is a fine player as long as his partner is good.

In other word signing Carroll & Suarez has given us 3 top strikers in that I would have no issue with a Kuyt/Suarez or Carroll/Kuyt front two in case of injuries or suspensions. Therefore I don't think a striker is huge on the list of our priorities.

My 'dig' (if you can even call it a dig) at poor Roy was at the fact he claimed not to know where to play Raul. I think Raul did more of a job out on the left for us yesterday, Kenny and the fans are well aware of his best position. I was alluding to the fact that Roy seemed clueless as what to do with Raul originally. But I am thankful he signed him. Cracking player.

He was shit yesterday, however, we won, so shouldn't have changed anything.
Yeah, cos he was playing on the left.

D-Brave, I agree re: Kuyt, I'm not a fan. But I don't think he's going anywhere, so have just accepted that he's always gonna be in the team.

I like him but I'm not sure he's 'that' good. He still goes missing in some games and loses (or pulls out of too many) 50/50s. If he improves next season he could become a hell of a player though.

Anita, I think Kuyt has proved for Holland that he's an excellent player when he's surrounded by other excellent players. The problem arises when he is surrounded by players like Lucas, N'Gog, Jova, Maxi etc he doesn't have the star quality of a Gerrard, Suarez etc to shine among the dross. I think Kuyt will be a big player for us next season as a utility player filling in up front or wide-midfield when others are out injured, suspended or just rested.

I'm not saying he's not a good player, he is.

But, I think for an offensive player he's not enough of an offensive threat. I think we all have 'types' of players we like, and for me he's just not the type of player I like.
