It seems that people have been talking about the quality of the gooners youngsters for at least 5 years now. How many have come through to establish themselves into the first team?
Let me think..

Fabregas
Clichy
Denilson
Song
Bendtner

That's off the top of my head.

Whilst not hugely important I don't think Fabregas or Clichey played in the reserves ever. Added to the fact that all of them were bought not developed in house.

Cole is the best example I can think of. Wiltshere and Gibbs are future stars.

Very impressive, considering your head is so pointed. Some didn't play much at all, and others are hardly great prospects.

we should have signed young Ramsay. >🙁

No way would we have payed that for a 17 year old, though having said that I think I would rather that have happened than £11 Million on a 20 year old.

TBH mate i was thinking post Fabregas and Clchy (who've been there for years now), Allthough i guess just taking into account the other three coming through is still quite a good return.

Interesting to look at the team that thrashed us 2 years back to see how they've moved on
Almunia

Hoyte Touré Djourou Traoré
(Connolly, 88)
Walcott Fabregas Song Denilson
(Diaby, 73)
Baptista, Aliadière.

Substitutes not used: Poom (gk), Lansbury, Randall.

One is irreplaceable. 4 are regular first teamers. Toure is the captain of the richest club in the world. I'm not sure what Walcott is.. Does he start for them?

Lol at Babel, Walcott, Nani & Anderson.. They were bought in the same window and they all turned out a bit shit..

Toure and Fabregas were first teamers then. Only Almunia and Song have 'made it' since. Hoyte and Aliadiere are now in the Championship. Walcott and Denillson were always going to make it.

(Wilshire & Vela too)

Arsenal paid around £10M for Walcott and £4m for Denillson.

AFAIK only Ramsey has cost them real money.

Walcott is..... permanently injured; if he ever stay healthy for a full season and gets a proper bit of time to get in form he'll hit 12-16 goals and help create. But he is 5'7" (1.7m), and 150 lbs according to Soccernet, but Wiki says 5'9 175 lbs; if he could get over his injuries with age pulling that Liverpool string in his heart would be mighty tempting for that pace and suprising finishing ability.

Arsenal have a very good way of ensuring the players development is normally positive but their youth system isnt that excellent.
All the players who have 'made it' have been pin pointed as future stars way before being with Arsenal and they have then spent a heafty sum of money on getting them to switch clubs.
HOWEVER.. if i was a youngster wanting to be the best i could be i would join Arsenal everyday of the week.

Ryan Babel - I dont see any point in starting him anymore. Martin Jol is the coach of Ajax and he is a Babel admirer. Hopefully we will get a couple of million for him. He got owned by the Arsenal reserve fullbacks the entire game.

Jay Spearing - I think the starts he had should finally end the complaints that he is being unfairly being kept out of the starting 11 by Lucas. From what people say, he has a great attitude and I wish him all the best in his career. But I dont see it being at Liverpool. He looked out of his depth against reserve players.

Not much in it.

I'd take Salif Diao ahead of them.

Not tonight he wasn't, but even if he was would it really be saying much?

They're both probably of equal shitness, but at least Spearing cares. At least he gives it a go, and despite his obvious limitations - does something to try and influence the proceedings.

I don't think I've ever seen a player less fussed with what's going on around him than Plessis. I used to watch Zidane and think 'he couldn't give a fuck' but then he had the ability, the track record, and the genius to be able to not bother every so often. Plessis on the other hand, is a fucking nobody in the World of Football, and doesn't seem in the slightest bit interested in changing that.

At stages in last night's game, the ball was zipping around everywhere, the movement from the Arsenal players was exhilirating, and the tempo was played at such a pace that you would be forgiven for thinking it wasn't an amalgamation of reserves and kids, but first choice internationals. During all of this, not at one stage did Plessis change from being a stoic, laid-back, one-paced plodder. I was astonished at his lack of 'give-a-fuck'.

Spearing may be shite, but I'd have him in my team every day of the week ahead of that fucking daydreamer.

Yea, he is the anti-Sissoko. Long legs, no motor.

Some of the early responses in this thread seem to have watched a different game to me tonight, the marks are way too low for some players. The players that played badly were very bad but I thought Kuyt, N'Gog and Degen were excellent tonight.

Cavalieri 5

Degen 8
Skrtel 5
Zorba 6
Insua 7

Kuyt 8
Spearing 6
Plessis 4
Babel 2

N'Gog 8
Voronin 5

Yep. He will be top quality if he stays clear of injury.
And then there is also Wilshere, he looks even better than Ramsey!
I was at the game, and I have to agree. Plessis was just walking around the park as if he was on a jolly stroll. A couple of times Arsenal passed it around him and Spearing, making them look very silly, but at least Spearing had a bit of fight in him, something that couldn't be said of Plessis. Several times Plessis was walking back into position after Arsenal had got by him. He'll never make it, god knows why he's just been given a contract extension. As for Spearing, for all his determination and great attitude, he won't make it either.

The peroxide blonde twat upfront, he can just fuck off. He was shit, typified by his bollocks attempt to back heel/flick the ball in injury time by the touchiline, which he completely fucked up (just like most things).

Babel simply doesn't have a footballing brain! He'slike a bingo caller, runs head down without looking where he's going. The majority of time he'll run into the opposition. Fuck knows how he missed a tap in, or decided not to shot when in their box (been watching yossi too much).

N'gog does have a footballing brain, and showed some great little touches. Seemed to be much stonger on the ball against Silvestre and Senderos, than he was against Lyon. The more I see of him, the more i'm warming to him as a Liverpool player

Degen, gets forward an awful lot, but takes an age to get back into his defensive positions. Should have scored. Reasonable back up to Johnson, but may have competition from Kelly.

Aquilani showed some great touches, and good awareness. Great overhead kick, can't rememeber last Liverpool player to successfully master such acrobatics, apart from the bean pole Peter crouch. He'll be a great player for Liverpool.

Overall, neither side really controlled the game and consequently it was quite even and could have gone either way.
Cavalieri - 4 - Shakey mofo who should have done better on the 2nd goal.

Degen - 7 - Has top top pace, comfy on the ball and covered Skrtel a few times too.

Skrtel - 5 - Solid for the most part, but that's it, and either he or the greek (personally I say Martin since he is more experienced and not getting over an injury) should have sorted out their lines for that 2nd goal.

The Greek - 5 - Same as Skrtel, except a bit slower and slightly less imposing.

Insua - 6 - A great great goal, aided well in the attack at times and generally worked hard. Left us exposed at times though.

Kuyt - 6 - Worked hard as usual, did some great defending, but as the most senior player on the pitch he should have been doing more to help N'Gog. Solid but nothing special.

Plessis - 5 - A decent first half in which he made some good challenges and put some decent balls about, he was noticeable. He was almost anonymous in the 2nd half though.

Spearing - 4 - Nicked a couple of balls and layed them off, that's about all he did for 90 minutes. He didn't link well, his shots were crap, he went missing and he got skinned by Ramsey once every 5 minutes. The most laughable thing is that there was a worse player on the pitch than him and that he thinks he should be getting time for the 1st team, Pffft.

Babel - 1 - Useless fucking wanker! Horrible touch, easier to dispossess than a blind quadriplegic (and about as useful as), never brought anyone into the game, was greedy and lost the ball all the god damn time, had way too many chances now and IMO should be shot. He get's 1 point for managing to dress himself and last the 90. I never want to see him play for us again.

Voronin - 6 - Very much a game of two halves for the Crow. He was shite in the first half, looked moody, slow, sloppy in posession, you name it. In the 2nd half though he was involved in nearly everything good in their half, skillful, good eye for the pass and did as well as he could on his shots. This is the Voronin I want to see more of.

N'gog - 6.5 - I felt he should have stayed on the pitch. He'd been putting himself about very nicely all night, worked very well off the ball, dragging defenders and creating space, and played others in on multiple occasions. It's just a shame he had sod all support.

Rafa - 4 - Not a bad team to put out while giving others a rest, but poor and late subs again didn't help. I feel we missed an opportunity tonight.
Spot on.
Cavalieri - 4 - We had to endure some scary shit tonight Diego and a couple of routine catches did not really mask that. He looks like he could be a decent keeper (at least on the evidence of one or two previous outings), but looks far too nervous to come into games cold like this.
Quite right. It shows yet again how needlessly counter-productive it is never, ever, using the second choice keeper in the reserves. If all he does is sit on the bench and train, he's never going to be truly ready to play a one-off role in the first team. So this silly new ritual of playing him in cup games just means we always look dodgy at the back in cup games. It's an indulgence we just can't afford.
