Jones 6 - He did well except for their third goal.

Wisdom 7 - What a debut from the young reserve player. He had difficult season last year and I started to doubt him but he's showing what a monster he can be in defence. Well taken goal.

Carra 4 - Sadly I'm starting to doubt if Carra is good enough to be 4th choice even. His legs are gone and it's costing us goals.

Coates 8 - Great game, nice headed goal. More of those please. Watch out Agger and Skrtel.

Enrique 5 - To be fair he did OK but he really needs to sort himself out. Too many mistakes, and his decision making is just baffling. EDIT -1

Sahin 6 - Can't complain about his distribution of the ball. He's a very classy player. Didn't make to much of mark in this game though.

Henderson 7 - Finally showing the potential he has. Commanding performance.

Suso 7 - Started off slow but played very well. This kid has it all. Needs more games.

Downing 5 - Nothing except a cross that led to a comical own goal.

Assaidi 6 - Did OK imo. Very technical player and ghosts past players with ease.

Pacheco 5 - Looked isolated upfront, not really his position.

Subs:

Shelvey 10 - MOM. Fanstastic performance. Two very well taken goals. He's ready!

Borini 7 - Had a hand in one of the goals and looked bright when he came on.

Sterling n/a

I thought Borini did well for the three goals. He should have got something on Coates' one, but just being there made the keeper stay central rather than trying to save the header. For Shelvey's first he picked up the loose ball, and for his second he took the defenders away to open up the space. Cracking movement.

How can you give Carra 4 when you give Enrique 6. Blimey. While agree Carra struggled. Enrique wos nothing short of abysmal. Errors aside he lost the ball regularly. And as for the goals. I think he was a strong culprit in all three

I agree, but he desperately needs a goal, though and I hope he can get one against Man U.

You're right he should have another point deducted for that calamity.

Anyway...

Jones 7 - Assured for the most part, a bit slow off his line for the 3rd goal and someone was culpable for the lack of a shout during Enrique's mad moment.

Wisdom 7 - Good solid performance topped with a well taken goal. A bit reluctant to go forward but defensively sound, which was refreshing for us of late.
Carra 4 - Sluggish and slow to react, frustratingly turned back towards goal too when there were easier passes on.
Coates 7 - Lack of pace still worries me occasionally and he can still be erratic, but he took the initiative more as the game wore on.
Enrique 4 - Dreadful, low on confidence, gave the ball away constantly and made mistakes all over the place.

Henderson 8 - Assured, held his position and broke forward on the counter. Best performance in a long, long time.
Suso 7 - Confident, great touch, kept the ball moving and looked to take players on. Promising stuff.
Sahin 6 - Some good passes forward and linked well occasionally with Suso, struggled to take authority though. Still enough to be encouraged about.

Assaidi 6.5 - Good positive play, looked a bit short of fitness but always looked bright and has a powerful shot on him.
Downing 6.5 - Some good passes and decent crosses in, looked better second half in his favoured role.
Pacheco 5 - Struggled to make any real impact, would have been fair though to move him to the left and take Assaidi off first though.

Shelvey 8.5 - Confident, ran the midfield when he came on and always looked a threat. Well taken goals and linked well with Hendo.
Borini 7.5 - Great movement and had a hand in three goals, needs a goal!
Sterling N/A

I'm sure I'll start recognising him again if he keeps getting 8/10 performances, even if they are invisible.

I've been with you on Henderson all the way but he did ok tonight. Particularly in the second half when the first-teamers came on.

Harsh on Enrique, but I'm in the minority there.

Good game all around and a nice win. Next!

As I said, harsh. The goal could easily be avoided if Jones takes control of the situation.
Other than that there were some poor and some good involvements, pretty normal for a player whose been injured for a while.

We probably need a new left back next season though if he doesnt step up.

Jones - looked authoritative at times but thought his positioning was suspect at times. I want him to do okay after everything but I think we all know he's not good enough. Best moment of the match was that fantastic throw out to Assman.

Wisdom - unless my memory is failing me I think I first heard of him when he was 14 - that there was this beast in the academy with all the physical attributes but the talent to go with it. Anyways it's great to see him in the first team years later. It's this you follow the youth for I suppose! Great goal, very accomplished in possession but defensive lapses were there.

Coates - I'd sit him down and make him watch old videos of Hyypia every day. If he improves his positional play and decision making he's going to be very good. Great in the tackle and one on ones, comfortable in possession and clearly a real threat in the air every time he takes the field. Hard to judge in that shambles of a defence but looked good in spells.

Carra - sad to say but he's finished. I hope this is his last season and he goes on to coach the youngsters next year because even now we have very little to gain by playing him .

Enrique - decent going forwards at times but generally fairly rubbish as he has been for a long time now. We need a new LB.

Assman - as someone said in the match thread, it's great to have (another) winger that wants to take people on. Pacy, capable on the ball and looks a threat. I can see why he only cost 3M to a point - he's a little bit brainless at times - but if he can get into those kinda positions against Premiership defences we'll have gotten ourselves a bargain.

Sahin - some nice touches, nice passes but ultimately I was hoping for a lot more from him against this type of opposition.

Henderson - worked hard for the team, got involved in some of the attacking play - to good effect particularly for Shelveys goal, which was great - and generally looked much better today. Again, as with Sahin, I was hoping for a bit more control from the midfield but it's progress.

Suso - really struggled to influence the game in the middle and looked a little lost at times. Young Boys were tired and a bit all over the place by the time he moved to RW and he started to look a lot better there. I think out wide is where he should play if he gets more opportunities.

Downing - I've noticed that Stewie has eclipsed Gerrard in the misery stakes. He isn't enjoying himself and I'm not enjoying him either. He was okay today but even at his best (for us) he just tends to remind me of Pennant in Athens - loads of ball but struggles to really do a lot with it.

Pacheco - playing as the lone striker in that kind of setup was just never going to really work for him. Had a tough game and whilst he worked hard, it must've been a fairly unrewarding experience for him. We looked much better when Borini came on who knows more about playing that role.

Shelvey - Two great goals. Can't ask for much more.

Borini - Helped us open up their defence and made some good runs but really needs to start improving.

Agree completely

Downing was the most expensive player out there tonight and imho he was the second worst after Enrique, he should be embarrassed picking up his wages, he is being eclipsed by all the kids

As usually nail hit on head by Vlad - Enrique was absolutely hopeless, and of course most of their attacks were directed down his side to exploit this which reflects well on Wisdom. Downing has continued his crapitude from last season of all our players he is the one who should have been loaned out, and Sahin was underwhelming early days for him I know. The subs changed the game and played very well, Coates needs more games, he could be very good. Very pleased to see these young players we have been waiting to break through finally get their chances, didn't expect much but was pleasantly surprised.

We'll be needing one in January if Enrique continues in this vein.
