Rafa wants to sign Reina

I always think the back four in front of the keeper is more important than the keeper. Yes, if you get a world class keeper and he settles quickly, great, but without a very strong back four he'll look dodgy (look at Clemence when he went to Spurs). The priority remains the same since before the keeper change - we need to strengthen the back four. If we do that there won't be much to be concerned about as far as the keeper is concerned. But we need to hurry up - we needed the defence settled before the midfield, and we've done the opposite as far as new signings are concerned.

Reports today claim that "Barcelona have proposed a £6m deal next summer with the offer of a three-year deal to replace Victor Valdes who is set to leave the Nou Camp when his contract expires in 2014."

Well, if true, I guess saving 5m on wages and then selling him won't be all that bad.
They probably wouldn't have put in a bid for him till next season anyway, and Barca's the club Reina wants to retire at.

I thought it was Athletico?

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has ruled out a loan move for Pepe Reina - claiming it's permanent or nothing.

The Spanish shot-stopper is heading for the Anfield exit door after the signing of Simon Mignolet from Sunderland - with Napoli looking his most likely destination.

But The Kop boss had ruled out a loan move - and yesterday claimed Reina needs to be sold to get him off the wage bill.

"Nothing as of yet," Rodgers said when asked of the latest on Reina, reports the Metro.

"The latest was that there was an offer to take him on loan but that’s something that hasn’t been discussed any further."

I dont see how Rodgers' statement constitutes us only wanting to sell Reina as opposed to loaning him out.

BR statement makes it clear that Pepe has no place at Liverpool and if he stays he will be no.2

Its best for all parties that he moves on.

It's surprising. Pepe hasn't got that bad. But every time he speaks, he says he is comfortable at Liverpool. That word comfortable probably isn't the best to use when we keep on coming in 7th. Best to sell while he has value I guess.

I just think the constant flirtations with Arsenal and Barca were a huge factor. Pepe isn't as good as he used to be and he has lacked motivation.

With all the talk of Valdes moving on and Pepe replacing him at Barca, BR wanted to cover his ass by getting in a replacement early. That Valdes opted to see out his last year threw a spanner in the works for Pepe. BR got Mignolet in to be no.1

I quite like how we covered ourselves by getting in the replacement now. There's a lot to like about how this Rodgers team is doing business. Fairly smart
Transfer business has been a weakness obviously identified in our business model. We've been taken to the cleaners too often and got caught short. Lesson learnt and not too soon.

We doing things smartly the way it should be done. The new stadium revenue will guarantee our future. That we are cutting wage costs and trimming the fat per say shows that the financial aspect of the business is being scrutinized. The new sponsorships and revenue streams will keep us competitve and drive us forward. We're are definately on an upward curve as a club and in business.

I rate Reina highly and would consider him the best keeper I've seen for us, I think some of his flirtations through the media have been quite inexcusable though, it's been off and on for years, not hiding the fact that he would play for A.Madrid or Barca, maybe that's why he's getting the boot, we want players that are 100% committed. Which raises big question marks over Suarez and what stance we take.

We need Suarez to make a push for CL footy but if a big enough bid comes in, make no mistake he'll be sold and a replacement brought in. Ayre did mention that there's a contingency plan in place if Suarez is sold.

Reina was at fault several times for sloppy goals last season which probably cost us the points to help us push for 4th....

I even thought at one point he was letting shit in on purpose cos he seems to have had beef with Rodgers if you ask me.

The thought crossed my mind too and several of my mates mentioned it. Hence us wanting him shipped.

I also rate Reina highly, but it's true that he is not the penalty-saving keeper he was in earlier seasons. I think we have to avoid exaggeration one way or the other. He's good, but he's not that good now.

He's not the world beater people are claiming any longer.

I think we'll miss him massively on the pitch though, the loss of both he & carra in terms of man management & on the pitch influence is a very big one.

Agreed, but as Rodgers said others will step up and the team will evolve and move forward.
Losing Reina could be a good thing aswell.

Reina went average when the rest of the team decided to go average.
Rodgers came in and demanded more from him and he obliged.

As long as you didn't get carried away then.

I remember you once argued in a Liverpool pub that he was better than schemicahal!!

How times have changed.

It's honestly a bad move. You can't take out Carra and Pepe in the same season, suarez too and expect us to make the top 4. That's too much experience at the back. And too many goals. Is it maaaaaaaaaadness?
