Napoli have launched a bid to sign goalkeeper Pepe Reina from Liverpool after failing in their pursuit of Julio Cesar.
New Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is a huge admirer of Reina and initially took him to Anfield from Villarreal in the summer of 2005 and has turned to his compatriot following the collapse of Cesar’s season long loan switch from Queens Park Rangers.
With uncertainty surrounding Reina’s position at Liverpool, Benitez is looking to take him to Naples and he can offer the 30-year-old the added incentive of Champions League football.

Target: Napoli, under new boss Rafa Benitez, have launched a bid for Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina
Reina has been a mainstay of Liverpool’s team over the past eight years and though he suffered a dip in form early in Brendan Rodgers’ reign, he finished the campaign in a positive fashion with six clean sheets in his final nine appearances.
But Rodgers’ decision to bring in Simon Mignolet from Sunderland at a cost of £9million has cast doubt on whether Reina, who is currently on holiday, would start the new season in charge of the No 1 jersey.
The Spain international, who is scheduled to join the rest of Liverpool’s squad in Melbourne on Monday, is one of the highest earners at the club and still has three years to run of his £110,000 per week contract.

I think, as @StevieMwill attest, this is part of Agent Rafa's ploy. I can see a 15 million pound bid made, and accepted.

Rafa and Reina apparantly share the same agent aswell. So they probably know he's up for the move

Good. If the money is right, he can go. Come on Rafa, don't be tight, we all know you're now loaded. Get bummed like we did with Carroll.

erm, how can you compare one of the best goalies of our times with that steaming pile of turd?

Would be a decent move for all concerned assuming we could get 10 million for him. He looks like he wants a new challenge and hes probably only got a couple more years at the top left, hes been a great player for the club over the last 6 or 7 seasons so good luck to him if he wants to move on and ty his luck somewhere else.

One of Rafas best signings I reckon so its not a surprise the move would appeal to both of them, he didnt get the love of Kuyt or Garcia for some reason, not to mention Alonso, but for 3 or 4 years he was the best in the league in his position, not many of our players you could make that claim about

I think Reina could be on his way out before the season begins.

I don't think Brad Jones signed a new contract to be our 3rd keeper ... and Mignolet definitely isn't here to sit on the bench.

No love because he was busy eyeing up Man U and Arsenal for a spell.

Brad Jones would happily be our third keeper. I think he'd prefer it to second in line actually. As would we all.

It would be a great signing for Rafa. Pepe Reina isn't as good as he used to be, but that doesn't mean he isn't still a great keeper.

Journalist has a deadline to meet. He quickly decides that because Reina used to play for Rafa Napoli have made a bid.
They don't know dick.

Not surprised to read everyone on here desperate to see the back of a goalkeeper who is clearly one of the best we've had, now we've bought someone else worth a lot less who has nowhere near the same experience or class.
He may have had a blip now and then but all keepers do.
I don't agree with selling him at all.

We should be looking at £10-12M for Reina.

Napoli are pretty minted, and we're in no rush to sell him.

He was one time really good, but turned up the first half of last season like McDonalds regular, at £110,000 a week we should be getting better service season year round. I hope this is true.

It's not a blip though. He's good, but not as good as he was - and he's not going to get better.

Smart move, Mingie might be well worth giving a chance.

No one buys a second goalie for 11 Million quid, especially when he wants to play in the world cup!

According to some on Twitter Darren Ward is joining the squad on tour. Which probably means Reina is off.

@dan_ward52: in the airport ready to head off to dubai then onto melbourne!! #preseason ⚽✈
