City one up already through an Aguero penalty. Sterling brought down in the 4th minute.

It's a Guardiola formation, where they all run around aimlessly tapping it to each other and the world raves about!

Looks like this:

---------------------Caballero-----------------
-------------Stones----------Kolarov--------
-----Sagna-----Fernandinho---Clichy----
Sterling---------------------------------Nolito
-----------De Bruyne--------Silva-----------
--------------------Aguero---------------------

So something like 2-3-4-1 or 2-5-2-1. Sagna and Clichy are playing kind of half-fullbacks (similar to how Alaba, Lahm and Thiago played at times at Bayern), not really hugging the touchline but playing more centrally, somewhere between a FB and a DM. Fernandinho drops in between the 2 CBs so at times it looks like a back 3 (but it's not). Sterling and Nolito playing wing-backs (how Douglas Costa and Koman played last season). Front 3 is De Bruyne, Silva and Aguero, all fairly central.

Joe Hart dropped in favor or Caballero. I guess Guardiola will be looking for a new #1, Hart's style doesn't fit how he wants to play.

74% possession, but almost no chances created apart from the penalty – typical Guardiola performance so far. City are far from a well-oiled machine, with players only starting to learn their new roles. If I was Sunderland manager, I would tell my players to take the game to City, to break forward in numbers and make those opportunities count.

Brilliant. Defoe made it one all.

Boring city full of pointless passes slow getting forward.

I had a few quid on defoe scoring first. Was sure he'd score, just a shame he took so long.

Hope my betting luck turns tomorrow so I can win a few quid back.

Except you'll be moyes

Moyes is an idiot. Taking Defoe off for a CB removed Sunderland's only goal-scoring threat and made City dominance overwhelming. Having 4 CBs on the pitch is absolutely useless you're pinned inside your own penalty box – it was only a matter of time until City score. Sunderland players fought valiantly for a draw, but their manager is a shithouse who gave the game away.

A world class manager should be shitting on competition in the Championship.
It's the safety first and control the game mentality rather than the taking of chances which will undo him. It ultimately undid him at Liverpool when it really mattered and so far, in the first two matches, the indications are that he hasn't changed at all. He's going to have to or this will be over very soon.

What? Even when they don't count?

I don't think they matter much over the course of a season but plenty of other people do.

And those people are faced with the question of just how good a manager is Rafa ?

If he gets relegated when put in direct competition with Big Sam, and then shits the bed in the Championship .... is he any good ?

Big Sam took over Sunderland in October '15 and Rafa March '16. Cant really use that "competition" as an example.
