I'm missing this due to a bat mitzvah. That would be bad enough but party planners in Manhattan have successfully mission creeped their way into making these two day affairs. Oh great, all the annoyance and small talk of a wedding, but with just family, very little drinking, and even more shit music. Entire weekend is ruined, not to mention the 8 hrs of driving.

That's a no win situation. It's also ill advised.

I mean, you can put up being with friends for a few hours without drinking, cos generally friends have similar interests & at least a couple of commonalities & some chemistry.

With family, after a couple of close family exclusions, them people's may not share anything else in common bar blood.

A steady supply of alcohol is needed to listen to great aunt hilda's never ending list of graphically described ailments, the father in law's seemingly endless 'story' about laying a new linoleum floor in the kitchen, being shown thousands of photos of some distant relative you can't remember the name of's kids & being told how amazing they are, when they actually look & behave like any other child you've ever seen, only possibly slightly more ugly. .

I don't actually know what a bar mitzvah is. I've just heard it mentioned on umpteen US shows & usually around teenagers. Is it a coming of age/graduation ceremony type thing?

And why very little drinking if so? Coming of age stuff marks when you can actually get pissed in front of family instead of just with your mates on the sly, so seems it should be the opposite?

Really? I thought Can was a huge weak link against United... Took about 4 touches before releasing the ball every time he was on it. Think Wijnaldum is far more suited to the way Klopp likes his teams to play.

Think more like a much more important combination of first communion and sweet sixteen... At 13 because teenagers are a modern invention. The heart of it is a religious ceremony wherein the kid reads a passage in Hebrew, which theyve been studying for for months. It is the word of God and has to be read perfectly, otherwise you start over, because we all imagine God to be some stickler beaurocrat. The problem is that the person being celebrated on both days, in this case a girl, hence the bat and not the bar, is years and years away from drinking. So, shit early time, impressionable youth, bullshit religious solemnity and sense of decorum. Now, have people been known to get shit faced at them, sure, and I'd guess in some orthodox communities it's somehow compulsory for the after parties (I have no clue ) . . . But, it can't be me, not in this family. Honestly, it would be down to the older folks to point the way here . If norman starts boozing it's a green light.

Thanks buddy - Just put my back out 5 weeks ago. 5 trips to the osteopath. 2 to the hospital and 2 to my local GP to beg for heroin have failed to get results. My tens machine has been a fucking winner though. If anyone has similar back issues I highly recommend it! LFC winning today will bring a big smile to my face though. One in this level of back pain would be sorely needed! I'll be watching lying on my back necking nurofen like a cunt - Let's smash this one lads! 🙂
