I thought we were doing fine right up to the subs. Then we stank.

Exactly. I know the SCM forum is always full of hyperbole and doom/gloom but I actually thought the starting 11 where more than good enough to win away from home against an in-form team missing a few regulars. .... Then we hooked our biggest threat and removed the guy running the midfield

It wasn't a great performance, but yeah it was fine. Still didn't create a lot of clear cut chances, still cut through with ease.

The collapse after the subs didn't even make me angry. It just made me fucking sad. We've still got half a season of this.

Very close to this being the start of our "banter era"

Thought we were pretty good first half, much more solid and organised and created some good chances - really ought to have been 2 or 3 up. Never looked like scoring second half.

This team is broken, as is the Club in general. Feels like a long way back for Jurgen's Reds.

I thought we weren’t completely awful in the first half.

You really get the sense that Klopp & his team have identified the problem as being, rightly or wrongly, in the forward line, rather than midfield, with that central role the one we’re mostly deficient in.

I reckon, for all the talk of Firmino still thinking about a new contract, he’s told Klopp he’s off in the summer and Gakpo has been brought in as a replacement.

Nunez played on the left when he first came on, but I think Klopp changed it round late on, moving Gakpo out wide - I think when Jones came on - didn’t make us any better.

The stats are pointing to our problems starting in the forward line with the press collapsing without Mane leading it - exposes the midfield who are too easy to play through and then you’re at our high back line which is leaving all that space in behind it.

I really think Klopp is trying to fix the front line before the midfield - and for most of the game it worked ok - if Mo had been on form and, despite his good finish, Mane or Diaz would have bagged a second (probably).

As much as we need new midfielders (and we do), it’s just going to be younger people looking more energetic while getting ripped through with ease if the forward line doesn’t get fixed.

I thought that main problem we had until the subs was the dysfunction of our front three; I'm not sure what the system is going to be, whether we're playing Gakpo through the middle long term, where Nunez will fit in, how wide Salah is supposed to be. Also, no-one seems to be able to carry the ball forward and beat players at the moment.

Really? I hate it, and find myself scrolling through most threads without reading them

It’s terrible - it’s getting worse - it’s like a scene from The Walking Dead when the camp has been overrun and there’s to way to hold them back!!!!

I’ve even seen a few normal folks to slip on a skin suit and shuffle amongst them for shits n’ giggles.

It’ll purge the mentalists.

What’s the quote?

He said, paraphrasing slightly,

Cody helped us massively with the ball, without the ball in the center. Harvey on the left wing, defensively we can really use him - he's really in the midfield. When you change... that's how it sometimes happens. Obviously for Darwin its a bit more tricky to do all these things, he's not used to it. We have to work a lot with him to involve him in these moments. And against a well drilled team like Brighton if all the players don't work together.... they'll play through this one gap...

I think its pretty damning. I understand language plays a part... but that should only be a problem in game and minimized somewhat by some of the multi-lingual players and personnel. We should be able to train the player even before they fully grasp English, I'd think.

What is so hard to understand about Nunez not being well suited or having much of an understanding of how to play that role, vs. Gakpo having played roles like that quite a lot. Nunez would probably not make a very good right back either.

Training up an £80 million player. Fucking hell.
More to do with getting to know his team how we play.

It shouldv'e even be a question if Klopp played them in the right positions

Harvey isn't a midfielder nor a left winger. Nunez isn't a left winger and Gakpo isn't a lone striker.

He's been at Liverpool since June 14th. If he is not suited to the role or hasn't been able to understand it yet... even allowing for the world cup and summer break, then why is he playing there, I guess?... Diaz/Jota obviously. but still Gakpo not fit to play there either? Or has Gakpo leapfrogged Nunez as a CF option for now. Its all very strange. I see his potential obviously but if its en su cabesa? who knows.

Even our right back isn't a very good right back this year.

If you thought this was bad, wait till we announce the Keita, Milner contract extensions.

Did you actually watch the game? 1st half was pretty even, Brighton probably looked more in control but looked dangerous at times on the break. Saying we should have been 2 or 3 up at h/t is saying we were battering them which never happened

It isn’t really - their goal was a lucky deflection, we both had a shot cleared off the line, Salah should have scored with his chance and Harvey should have done better with his other chance.

That’s not about battering a team, it’s about being clinical when you have chances.

We should not have conceded the deflected goal and we should have scored at least one more.

We conceded both goals in part because Gomez and Keita are pussies who decided to turn their backs to the ball.

To be fair - I wouldn’t fancy either’s chance of coming out of a full frontal ball hit in one piece.

No mention of Elliott's deflected goal which the keeper would have saved.... The score being level at h/t was a fair reflection of the 1st half
