I've watched the repay plenty, and it's a pass you expect him to make. Hell, it's a pass I'd expect Trent, Robbo, matip, Virgil, hendo to make. It's not a particularly special pass. It's because it's by a perceived special player that makes everyone go "oh that's beautiful".

And your 'ignore the stats' and let's concentrate on his one error isn't far more risible? Let's rate a player on one incident in 90 mins, that makes complete sense.

Whilst the error could have been disastrous it wasn't. I never see you flaying Ali if he almost messes up trying to dribble past an attacker or in fact most other players.

The way we play around at the back it can happen - one can see from Thiago's perspective at the moment he hit the ball, having been under pressure from Saka, he simply couldn't see Laca as our barn door was mostly obscuring him - it wasn't a hit and hope even if unfortunate.

So you piled in because it was me giving him a 7/10 rating - let's see how far off that mark I was as far as most others saw the game (mostly ex-players of course) shall we. On the first page of a Google search : CBS 7/10, NBC 7/10, Echo 7/10, First Sportz, 7/10, LFC Transfer Room 7/10, TIA 6/10, The Anfield Wrap 8/10, Sports Illustrated 7/10, Redmen TV 9/10, BBC 7.08/10 and our very own Rurik 7/10. Well fuck me sideways. Suggest you go off and give them a piece of your mind too !

I didn't just concentrate on the one mistake, and if it was an isolated "one mistake" then it would be unfair. As it is, he's had that in his locker throughout his time here, giving away sloppy passes that have led to dangerous situations. You can go back as far as Henderson calling him a "wanker" for giving away a stupid freekick late in a game last year, totally unnecessarily. So while he is a top class technician and great when on form, he also has an annoying lax tendency which presents itself quite regularly. Which is why the criticism of the incident is fair, because it's not the first time. And as for Ali, I "do" lay into him when he fucks up, but Ali gets us out of trouble A LOT, so it's easier to overlook the occasional lapse. Thiago has showed his class, been out the team alot and also been incredibly frustrating and sloppy, pretty much all in equal measure. Yet you're forever keen to overstate his influence. That's the point.

Fuck yourself sideways all you want about the scores, I wasn't criticising the score, I was criticising your logic behind it. In your words:

Surprisingly good when looking at the stats. I didn't notice him as a stand out player (probably because the one episode that comes to mind was his terrible back pass that would have put us behind but for the wonderful Ali).

Yet now you're suddenly laying it on thick about his performance in retrospect. Your argument is all over the fucking place, as per when you're either sucking off or OTT lambasting your pet favs/peeves.

I dont think we can overstate the influence of Thiago and Fabinho starting together. We're a much better and more balanced team which our results also show.

The whole team struggled a bit in the first half not just the midfielders. Much better in the second half, and that pass to Jota is why its better to have a player with that type of vision in your team who can contribute both attacking wise and defensively.
Thiago's passing is extremely important for our transition play and the ability to quickly turn winning the ball into a counter attack.

This is turning into a debate on a par with David Beckham's free kick against Greece.

Andy Robertson made his 50th assist for Liverpool last night. Here is the list of players who have made 50+ assists for LFC in the Premier League era:

Gerrard - 144
McManaman - 74 (84 if you include pre-1992-93)
Firmino - 65
Alexander-Arnold - 58
Henderson - 54
Salah - 53
Robertson - 50

Haha get your head out of your arse Mark. It isn't what I said that bothers you, it's because I am the one who said it. It isn't the logic that bothers you, it's that I used stats to realise that a first impression was inaccurate (it seems from all those other ratings I listed that the quality of the performance was more obvious to most, guess I'll have to pay more attention to Thiago from now on). Again had that been anyone else saying it you'd have kept your mouth shut.

7/10 is 'laying it on thick' ? Haha well at least one word in that sentence is relevant to that comment.

As for your statement he 'always had that in his locker', if that is of any importance at all depends on the greater scheme of checks and balances and where does he stand (Ali a great example - we all accept the occasional brain fart for what else he brings) and what Thiago brings is beyond the obvious except to the few haters on here.

As Rurik said so succinctly above "because he was so often giving away fouls in the first 6 months here, some fans still seem to mistrust him. Time to let go of your first impressions, people, and see the actual player in front of you – he is our 2nd best midfield tackler and presser after Fabinho and this was yet another clean sheet when those 2 started together. Great assist, no matter what ..."

And I'll add to the Fabs+Thiago pairing comment : it's now what 19/20 wins in matches they've started together? Damn. More of those inconvenient stats eh.

Who's this Michael Reid and how many assists does he have?

Has to be 50. The list is "players who have made 50+ assists for LFC in the Premier League era:", and he's below Robertson who has 50. So logically he's joint with Robertson on 50.

Yes I know it's a joke.

Impressive stuff for (I assume) a journo !

I love how invested everyone is in the “was Thiago’s pass an assist” debate and how heated it’s becoming. Gave me a proper chuckle this morning. Imagine we drew or lost!

I’m also a bit surprised by the low ratings or praise for yesterdays win.
Arsenal are an in form team and the third best home team in the league. Only conceded 10 goals before yesterdays game.

The reaction is always relative to the standard the team has set so I guess if you were being kind you could kinda look at it as a compliment to the job Klopp and co have done over recent years.

And I think Arsenal's recent form and quality are acknowledged by the fact that it's universally been recognized as a massive win and a marker in the title race.

That said, the performance was iffy in some quarters... it's okay to say. I'm pretty sure Klopp won't be simply handing out hugs and hi-fives with no criticisms or analysis.

Be cool.

Thats not the point though. You cant control every minute of every game or not to expect to be iffy in some parts of a game.
The fact of the matter is that this team is evolving, adapting in games to certain situations and find ways to win. Which is impressive in itself and deserves praise given the form Arsenal are in at home and their approach in the first half.

I doubt Klopp would just hand out high fives or hugs without a tactical analysis even after a 7-0 win.

Be cool.

I'm not into the whole out of ten ratings thing Thiago did some good stuff and also had a brainfart that nearly cost us the match, and with it the whole point of the crazy run we've been on. He made a couple of good passes and tackles, cosmic, that's his job. It's like me saying I did ok today, made my bed and brushed my teeth, sorted some lovely stuff for lunch. Almost cut my head off with some garden shears but my mate saw what was happening and sorted it so all told it was a solid seven out of ten of a day.

Would have been quite impressive to cut your own head off though. A solid 9 in what would have been your final apperance.

Why have we got a away strip that looks very much like Chelsea's...?

17 mins of «oh my days, «blud» and «bruv».
After Goldbridge there seems to be 1000 of these channels. Cant believe people actually watch along to these lads. They really need another hobby, especially Troopz.

Funny though.
