To those bemoaning Chelski's tactics, you do what you need to do in professional sport to win.

We had home advantage and knew how they would play, it was up to us to break them down.

If we were unfortunate it was a slip that cost us a goal, you can't legislate for that.

Move on, win 2 more games and hope the other contenders have a similar experience.

At least Everton still have a chance of getting 4th when they play City on saturday. Arsenal play on sunday, so it will still be possibly 4 points.

So please enlighten me about Mourinho's tactical masterpiece.

Go on.

His results this season away from home against the biggest teams are the best advert for his tactical prowess. How about you explain why it's all luck? I really hope you can, because I hate him more than I ever hated Ferguson, so I can dream of his luck running out instead.

How is it that his tactical prowess is going to take his excellent squad of players to 3rd in the league behind a squad worth about a third of his?

Must be bad luck.

bringing aspas on sums up the big mistake this year - not having enough options beyond first XI and wasting millions on aspas and alberto without selling borini.

I haven't got a problem with Mourinho parking the bus. That's his prerogative and has served him well. The shithouse time wasting was ridiculous.

I assumed that the time wasting in the earlier stages of the game was simply a way of breaking up play to stop us gathering any sort of momentum.
We have shown before how fast we normally start a game.
This was a cynical ploy to slow us down

Painful though it is to say, Mourinho's moaning about his strike force does ring true. Their most recent league defeats were to Sunderland, Palace and Villa, all games where they were expected to dominate and attack rather than do what they did today. They lost by a single goal in each game. If they had even half the quality striking options of City or, dare I say, us, it's quite likely they'd have got something from one, maybe two of those games and be right in the title fight.

As it stands, they might still finish above us as their two, apparently meaningless, league games are Norwich H and Cardiff A, whilst we have two demonstrably harder games and added pressure, so it's by no means certain they'll be only 3rd.

You're a fucking tool, lad.

i don't think there's enough games left for the pressure to get to city. much more likely we'll drop points imo.

Why did Mourinho celebrate like he'd won the Champions League?

Also, every fuckwit on Sky who says Chelsea are right back in the title race can go eat a dick. HOW the fuck are they 'right back' in the title race when they need both of their two rivals to lose a game each to be in with a chance?

Everton all but out of the race for 4th, City smelling blood after our defeat and Toure and Aguero back...the signs aren't good.

We can only hope they slip up.

Everton need to win next saturday to keep up the pressure on Arsenal, they play sunday.

It's not their situation in relation to Arsenal that worries me so much as their injuries, and general weariness.

I'm really hoping they can pull something off but it doesn't look that likely right now.

Agreed, that worries me aswell. Stones/Alcaraz will be horrendous.

The most expensive bus that has ever been parked at Anfield, what a load of anti football horse shit by a Portuguese cunt that has no idea how to play expansive exciting football. I'm disappointed but it's not over, football lost today but the most annoying thing is that we will have to listen how much of a tactical masterclass Moaninho showed today, it was like watching a Sunday league team playing a premier league team, fucking horrific.

I sat with my mates dad & his mate today.

The two of them were slagging off Sakho for playing the ball back to Gerrard.

I spent about an hour, trying, failing, to explain that playing the ball across the back four is what got us here in the first place (ok, not quite literally, but philosophically) & getting nowhere.

We failed tactically today. We needed to sit back & take possession without trying to dominate, let their petty time wasting wash over us & play patient passing football.

We didn't, we tried to force it all match.

Ironically that's not what cost us, but it's what could have gained us the points m

Mourinho got his tactics spot on. Atletico played into their hands midweek by pumping balls into the box, we did pretty much the same today. It was frustrating. It wasn't clever by any stretch from Mourinho, it was tactical basics, a team that flourishes when given space to run into, ergo, constrict the space, get men behind the ball and wait for luck or an opening. It works sometimes, at worst he'd have come away with a draw. We did it under Rafa and Houllier many a time at Highbury, Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge. It's not pretty and it's fucking annoying when it becomes your managers trademark, but it's useful when playing the big sides where you need the points. If we'd been that bit more astute at City and Chelsea earlier in the season, tightening up that little bit might have got us at least a share of the spoils.

I want football played the right way as much as anyone, but you have to vary it and today we just didn't have a plan B and we just played into their hands. Galling really, considering that such an expensively priced squad can overly revert to such conservative tactics, but today it was justified on their part and it worked. They looked at what we've done to the rest of the pack and found a way to combat it. Fair play.

Like I said, I'm loathed to pour any adoration Mourinho's way, it was basic stuff and thanks in part to a bit of luck going their way. We didn't do ourselves any favours though in attack, Suarez and Sturridge look like they've hit a brick wall.

Yeah, I found myself defending Chelsea to a point, in that we did similarly to win the uefa cup & champions league without complaint.

We simply should have boxed clever (in a pretty literal sense of that term) when faced with those tactics.
