Post match disappointment and anger in here

I don't think it's ever justified for a squad that full of attacking quality to play blanket defence like that.

It's pathetic, and there's a decent chance that Abramovich will justifiably sack Mourinho for doing it.

Yep Chelsea got the job done but as I said in another thread it wasn't a tactical masterclass from Mourinho. He assembled 8 players behind the wall and sat it out from the first min.

we aren't quite there yet. we'll sign boss players and carry on being boss. this isn't 2nd under Benitez wil hicks and gillett

Everton 1 chelsea 0
Everton 3 liverpool 3
Everton 0 spurs 0
Everton 3 arsenal 0
Everton 2 united 0

Thats all their results against the top 7 sides with only city to play.
This isnt a foregone conclusion.

That's the spirit.

Keep the faith lads!

Lordy, some of you lot are seriously pessimistic.

will be completely different this time: arsenal will win tomorrow; everton will give up on fourth; and they will really not want to help us land the title.

Why would they give up when they can still catch them? None of those players will do that.

Guys it's the Empire Strikes Back - that's where we are.

Vader & his pack of cunts have just dropped a pile of AT-AT's on the pitch at Anfield and just fucked us up.

It's seems a long time since wee Coutinho used the force, turned off his targeting computer and just blew that dirty big Manc Death Star from the sky.

Now our heros need to travel to the Degobah system to have some psychiatric time with Dr Yoda.

Those primitive Ewok pricks at Goodison will be onside for the final battle when even Vader gets so fucked up he doesn't know what side he's on & we blow that fuckin Manc Death Star away one last time.

Then it's all Yub Nub at Anfield...

Im getting angry at the idiots lapping up the mourinho genius tag. If it was stoke who needed to avoid relegation and deployed those tactics well then thats excellent as they made use of the only resources they have. Chelsea have a squad brimming with technically able players yet deploy that shit house tactics from 1st min to win. Yeah they won but its not genius. Genius is reserved for nobel prize winners not putting 8 athletic technical men behind the ball. It's copping out and getting lucky. So well done chelsea, job done but I won't herald it a master class.

100% right.

Skullflower this is true - if they beleive they have nothing to play for then they will roll over. The only solution maybe to score 16 to 20 goals in next 2 games.

Everton can still get Champions league AND they could still be knocked out of Uefa places. So they still have things to play for.
Additionally Villa are bang in the shit and need a result.

Its a shame we lost we deserved more for our recent run, but we can still do this, we still have a chance. Will City win three in a row? Probably. And its a cliche but if someone had said..... At the start of the season....

Heroic effort from the lads. Heroic season. Ima keep dreaming.

Additionally if you care City have won 3 premier league games on the bounce twice this year. However they need 5 in a row as they have already won thier last two.
That they have done just once.

Of course it's not "done" mathematically, but it's an extremely tall order. One that I feel we'll come up short in. Remember, we have a tough game against Palace ourselves, and anyone can get jittery on the last day against any team. That, and hoping for the City juggernaut with a full squad back and firing is a bit too much I think. If we lose out on GD I don't know what I'd do.

There's no romanticism in football any more. This is part of a longer topic, but football is dying a little bit. If this team, full of a mix of young, boisterous die-hard Scousers, an ageing legend with the Holy Grail just eluding him, one of the greatest players ever to step foot in this country etc etc. doesn't win it, but either one of the two playthings ran by billionaire oligarchs packed full of mercenaries and cunts does, then there's little hope. This season is our best chance, and an unexpected chance at that. The lads have done brilliantly to be even in with a shout. But I don't think we'll do it, and that's tragic for football.

We will also be back in the Champions league next year. The league is a dream. Europe a reality.

Fuck em mate.
Weve dropped 3 points out of the last 36 if that isnt enough then hold your hands up and say we did our best.

We could win the league.

I sat with my mates dad & his mate today.

The two of them were slagging off Sakho for playing the ball back to Gerrard.

I spent about an hour, trying, failing, to explain that playing the ball across the back four is what got us here in the first place (ok, not quite literally, but philosophically) & getting nowhere.

We failed tactically today. We needed to sit back & take possession without trying to dominate, let their petty time wasting wash over us & play patient passing football.

We didn't, we tried to force it all match.

Ironically that's not what cost us, but it's what could have gained us the points m

Exactly what I was tryjng to say..... bull in China shop....

We needed to be cool and play a Rafaesque game today

Slagging off Sakho for playing it to Stevie is just stupid. We do that EVERY match.
Gerrard let the ball slide under his foot as he took his eyes off the ball and then slipped when trying to gain control.
In the hundreds of games I've seen Gerrard I cant even remember a similar incident. Insanely horribly bad luck.

Its no use dwelling on it regardless. We move on to the next game and take it from there.
Win our next two and then see where we end up.

Hey Piedro, Premier league website says only 5th is Europa league place. Everton still need to win.

Awful if our title bid is destroyed by that mistake.

Henderson's suspension and Sturridge's injury contrast with with Aguero coming back and Toure back fit.

It's gonna be tough and all we can do is win our last 2 games. We've been incredible this year, we're back in the Champions League and for the time being, we're still top with the points in the bag.

Really hope A Madrid knock these cunts out.
The league is gone lads, you could see today that City are not going to let this slip.

From the live PFA awards coverage by the Guardian,
'If there were an award for "most hapless and horrible mistake that cost your team the title" I guess Terry's own goal against Palace would edge it ahead of Kompany's slice against Liverpool... 'writes David Peacock. 'Although Gerrard made a late bid for, er, glory today.'

What bitter irony, our captain has 'repaid' the gifts given to us by the other captains. It's a footy soap opera script.

Yeah, I found myself defending Chelsea to a point, in that we did similarly to win the uefa cup & champions league without complaint.

We simply should have boxed clever (in a pretty literal sense of that term) when faced with those tactics.
Yeah we did that in the UEFA cup against Barca and to a lesser extent in the Champions League in 2005 but the difference here is that Chelsea had a 300 million squad out there today. Back in the day we weren't a good team but we made the best of what we had.
