In reality they should get the players and managers to vote once a month for the entire season if we're to really get a fairer decision.
The current timing is stupid of course but even if done at the end of the season, there will likely be far more votes towards players that finished strongly but were perhaps average pre Christmas.

I believe the votes were placed when bale was having his purple patch and van persie was having his dry spell.
I'm guessing those numbers don't work in Suarez's favour if we win, say, by 3 goals, as perhaps his 1 goal in that game would not be considered vital in that game.
But what about him tormenting the defence, destroying their confidence and moving them around all over the place out of position or dispossessing them during the game?
I know you're messing and all, but some players are just worth more than stats can show. Coutinho can have a 70% pass completion rate (or below) for the rest of his career if it meant he'd unlock defences a couple of times every game.
