Nah, cannot do it, two missing

Zlatan has a point in that it is nice to have CBs who threaten from set-pieces.

*misses Sami again*

Crouch again? No thanks. It was painful enough watching him play for us thoe first time around.

We did well to get the money we got for him. If Roy brings him back, I think i'll move from the 'give Roy a chance' Bandwagon to the 'give Roy a pink slip' Bandwagon overnight.

Whilst I can somewhat understand and forgive signing a brutal footballer like Poulsen due to the uncertainty of Mascher, there's simply no excuse for Crouch when there better options out there for similar prices.

That is a valid point but it's been rather misused in this thread however.

And you don't need two goalscoring CBs really. One would suffice as Sami perfectly underlined.

We really need to get Agger going again goalwise. Say five goals from the CBs combined with the same ammount from the holding midfielders (Lucas, Masher, Poulsen, whomever) would get us more points over the course of a Season.

Especially against stubborn opposition where one goal is often pivotal.

We just need defenders who can head the ball better than the ones we have.

People talked and talked about zonal marking/man marking for hours, whilst failing to take into account we got rid of lots of tall players who could head the ball, and replaced them with short players who were regularly out jumped and out muscled.

I rate Skrtel and Agger, but deep down I think one will need to leave to make way for someone in the Hyypia mould.

But we have one, Kyrgiakos! 😉

Such as? Not doubting it (yet), just curious to know whom you have in mind.

If I may add a few names:

Gyan, Pavlyuchenko & Hamdaoui.

What about this Cameron Jerome-lad btw? Everytime he's been up against us he's been rather effective if nothing else.

I think that may be true.

I'm not entirely convinced. Top-class football is played less in/through the air than it used to be. I wouldn't deny that someone of Sami's type would be useful but I'm not sure either of the others would have to go to make room for him. Either might decide to leave if he becomes third choice for a while, but that's a rather different matter.

For 10m? Or 6m?

I'd rather have (if we're on a really limited budget):

Bellamy
Rodellga
Santa Cruz

.. and if we're after "Prem proven".

Otherwise, I'd prefer could get the likes of Klose, Ozil (10m this summer could possibly get him, else just throw in Babel) and Podolski (10m mark).

.. and even though I don't rate him THAT highly, i'd much prefer taking a chance on Huntelaar (lets face it, he's got similar attributes to Crouch.. slow, ungainly, did I mention slow? but he's FAR better putting the ball in the back of the net once a chance is breastfed to him).

There are also some young players like Remy, Neymar and

How about Steve Finnan? Only the one goal, so I guess pretty shit in your book then?
That brought back good memories, took me a while to find it, but what a goal it was:

finann was a quality, quality player, preferred arebloa though.

Why did you prefer Arbeloa to Finnan Neil?

Finnan was a much better player IMO but to be fair i never though a great deal of Arbeloa anyway. Very overrated.

Finnan for me too. Very composed and efficient full back. Very solid and decent delivery.

The best wrong-footed crosser of the ball I have ever seen.
That's very true - whenever Finnan put in a cross with his left foot, it was invariably lethal! ;D

Finnan was a better crosser of the ball, whilst Arbeloa had versatility on his side. On the defensive side of things, I don't think there was much between them.

Forced to choose, it would be Finnan. But both fullback were shrewd investments by Gerrard and Rafa.

Finnan for me by miles!
Finnan-Hyppia-Carragher-Riise is one of the finest defenses of all time.
