Contrary to what most people seem to think, I thought this was probably Karius' worst performance so far today. Yeah, he finally showed that he can make some saves – but I was never worried about his shot-stopping ability or his bravery because I saw him make some incredible stops at Mainz before. So I was never doubting him in those games where he didn't have a save to make and everybody focused on his trouble with crosses and indecisiveness – which is pretty normal for a young keeper.

Today what worried me was the first goal – it really looked like he forgot he was inside the penalty area and jumped with his hands down, trying not to get sent off. If that is true, it's an unbelievable mental mistake and shows that his head is all screwed up right now. Also, while the saves he did make were all fairly routine for a top-level GK, he did spill the ball once that he should've held, got a ball knocked out of his hand while throwing (fortunately the ref intervened, but you can't always count on it) and looked very off-balance during another fairly routine save. Again, it just tells me he's a bag of nerves right now – even though, somehow, you feel his inner confidence is higher than Mignolet's. The distribution was inconsistent as well, although on a positive note he did make one really awesome pass in the 2nd half – if he can do this more often, that could be a great weapon for us in the future. Still, I don't think he should be happy with this performance; he needs to do better.

Sensational result.

No fucking team wins games with the perfect performance.

We are joint top, firmly in the hunt for the league and top 4 and 8 pts ahead of the scum.

Imagine scoring four without Studge, Origi starting or Coutinho, Mane or Lallana scoring.

Brendan must be tearing his hair out.

We all hoped this season witless start like this but it has the feel of 13/14 about it already which was one of the most enjoyable league campaigns in decades.

Delighted

May be Karius thought it would count as back pass to catch it with hand. Even though Lovren's kick was miscued, Karius was the intended recipient. So he probably made up his mind not to play with his hand....which shows a lack of presence of mind, ya so it was his mistake...

But it's not as bad as some genius' here are making it out to be.

I'm leaning more towards the backpass mindset or if he anticipated a downward header. His reaction might as you say he sqewed by nerves.

Thought today was a step in the right direction regardless.

Just a shame we have to discuss the goalkeeper (when there isnt much to worry about - yet) when we're joint top with 23 points and the best start in ages.

We look amazing.

That was a good run, but Tompkins is a fucking idiot. A good fullback would've never followed Lallana there.

I think Tompkins did ok, it was Kelly being out of position, their DM not seeing that and not following Lallanas run, and Dann missing the start of Firminos run.

Centre backs hate being dragged out of position though. We didnt have this last season with Benteke etc. Clearly some mistakes but much harder to defend against.
Kelly is following Mané and left some massive space behind him. Tomkins didnt have much choice I think but they got caught in no mans land.

Karius was a 5/10 , the definition of average , his kicking was piss poor , made some routine saves but had to take two bites to take a routine save and just seems out of sync with his back line .

Coutinho ,firmino , lallana and Mane are amazing to watch , its like playing football with your mates as a kid.

Can was alright , fortunately Henderson continued his rich vein of form, Matip was decent despite not winning a single header against bentekkers all day and lovren too after his reboot was sound, clyne did his thing and Moreno too, did his thing , unfortunately

Firmino took his goal very well.

Lallana put in a hustle , not a lot went for him but he was tidy and hard working as ever

Origi , Durr

Wijanldum ,yeah OK

Klavan , sure

Matip won two headers and Lovren 7. Benteke won 11.
All in all they handled him well, which even Pardew said post match.

First half was poor and nervous looking again, but....

2nd half was really his first opportunity to get into a game and start to settle. Previously, he has had a few crosses to deal with and a few unstoppable shots for goals and not much else to do.

Having been a goalie on and off in the past, it really helps to have some action. You see the field more clearly, your positioning improves, and you self-belief builds. 2nd half was a positive step for him.

It is really hard being a goalkeeper of a good team where you are only called on 2-3 times per game. A completely different mentality and tough to adjust to. Other than his strange depth perception on some crosses, I think he has the skills, but will take time to settle and adjust mentally to playing for a good team.

And Karius was good as well
He was a bit of a shithouse for their first goal though albeit Lovren was to blame for it happening in the first place. Sticks his hands up and he saves it...why he thought flapping his arms was a good idea I'll never know.

Not convinced by him at all yet.

[article]Emre Can and Joel Matip’s goals in the free-flowing 4-2 win at Crystal Palace mean nine different players have now shared the 24 scored by Jurgen Klopp’s team in ten Premier League games.

Only Manchester City have scored as many in total, and while Arsenal can also boast nine different scorers, no Premier League team has more.[/article]
