Where do they get them from ? Who gives them ?
Fans obviously, and to some extent, the press.
Each time when a player is mentioned as a transfer target and a background of the player is profiled, there's always the sure-bet that his nickname will be mentioned.
But when I think of our own club, I don't remember us fans giving nicknames to all our star players - I mean, derogatory nicknames - sure but I don't remember us fans come to a general consensus and give fixed nicknames to every good player we have. And I don't mean Rushy for Rush. I'm talking like nicknames such as 'Snake' given to our latest recruit - Milan Jovanavic (sp?) for his movements on the field...something like that.
The obvious ones are :-
Fowler = 'God'
Stevie G = 'Captain Marvel'
Barnes = Digger
Dalglish = King Kenny
Torres = ?
Mcmanaman = ?
Rush = ?
Please continue the above list...would be nice to refresh our memories too 🙂
