It seems that most people on the site feel that while Agger and Skrtel are good, they're not good enough.

So, we'll have around 40 million, plus the transfer of Carroll.

How much do you spend on a new CB?
What do you want the starting partnership to be?
Who do you sell?
Who are your 4-5 CBs for the 2013/14 season?

We won't, but okay.

Howedes, Hummels and Ter Stegen.

You want to spend all your money on those 3 players? No DM? No LB back up?

Howedes and Ter Stegen we can get I think for 20-25 million.

Hummels - no chance whatsoever. He'll end up with Bayern / Barca / Real / City in the next 1-3 seasons.

As I've said before, I think Agger or Skrtel could form one half of an excellent centre back partnership. I just don't think they can do it with each other. So I think we should be looking to sign one first team centre back, and if Coates is not considered good enough, perhaps an understudy. The big, beasty first teamer is obviously the priority though.

I didn't realise this was a thread about the transfer window in general, just thought it was a fantasy defence thread. I'd focus on Ter and Howedes though, Hummels is of course a pipe dream, as is Subotic too probably.

One thing that frustrates and puzzles me about Skrtel and Agger is the fact that both are capable of bringing the ball out a la Hansen, but they hardly ever do. It would make the way the team plays so much more attractive and interesting than the current sideways faffing about.

£15M Wanyama CB/DM
£5M Okore CB
£25M Eriksen AM + first refusal on Fischer

I love fantasy manager threads!!!

Selling Skrtel, Lucas and a few more like Assaidi and Pacheco would release funds for a new young LB too.

Come the summer we'll prolly need a full back four, a DM and a new keeper. Enrique and Johnson should be good enough for the starting 11, but they'll need proper cover. We need a ball winning DM instead of Lucas, and as for Pepe, he's gotta go...

We should snap up that Papadopoulos lad from Schalke. I've been banging on about him on here for ages. He's ace.

we'll end up with ashley williams knowing our luck. can see him and suarez getting on like a house on fire.

Read the thread properly!

We're focusing on the defensive side of the ball - not Eriksen and Fischer, both whom we'll be signing regardless.

Ashley Williams isnt as bad as people make out, wins lots of headers and good with ball at his feet.

Problem is his age and the swans would want silly money for him

In one sense a good CB aged about 28 would fit the bill as he wouldn't block the progress of the young CBs we've already got. In another sense, however, it seems unlikely there are any available who would be cheap enough as well as good enough. It's no exact science predicting when the young players will be ready - Phil Thompson established himself in the first team when he was about 21, Hansen when he was about 24/5. I'm a bit concerned we seem to keep the likeliest candidates out on the right indefinitely; it's good they get experience and a bit of versatility, and I know Carra had to wait ages for his chance in the middle, but in Wisdom and Kelly we've got two good prospects and I hope they don't find their paths blocked for years.

£15m for Wanyama and we don't need any CB reinforcements.

Skrtel & Agger will be fine if Wanyama "protects" the defence. Kelly & Wisdom should be blooded as CB's in League Cup, FA Cup and the odd rare league outing.

So our CB roster for next season, Agger, Skrtel, Wisdom, Kelly, Carra

With McLaughlin coming through we'll have Glenjo and him as right backs, Enrique at left back with cover from Glenjo if Enrique gets injured.

i swear rafa said he felt kelly would make a better RB than a CB. Rodgers has said he wants to convert wisdom from CB to RB so i doubt we'll see any of them playing CB anytime soon if ever.

New tv deal, improved deal with Standard Chatered etc etc

I'd love to sign Wanyama. Quoted fee is 8-9 mill. Sadly I can see him going to Utd.

As for centre backs I'd sign Howedes. Sadly he's also linked to every top side out there and has 1 year left on his contract.
I also like Rami from Valencia. He'd fit in perfectly.
Ter Stegen would be a great signing for the GK spot.

Mascherano is Hyypia compared to Classie (who I like, but he's very similar to Allen).

If we go Dutch this summer, we'll get Strootman I think (& would be nice to get Fer too just to piss off Everton).
Strootman is less of a DM i'd say, though I don't watch the dutch league enough (Dmishra?!)

Strootman isnt the answer imho.
I'd love to get Xabi back. If he's leaving mind.
