I've always been a fan of Scott Parker since he played for Charlton. He's both gutsy and intelligent. I would think any team with both Parker and Mascherano would be bound to dominate the midfield.

I reckon that would be true too but if we do end up with Parker, then that pretty much confirms Mascher is going, doesn't it?

I think it might be a bit of insurance.
Is that clip showing "gutsy" or intelligent" Farky?

Yep. And that we've replaced him with an older, not as good version.

Obviously Parker's a good player, and a vast improvement on Lucarse, but hasn't Benitez just spent £20m on a midfielder recently?

That's what I was wondering. I think it shows a certain elegance and sense of comic timing.

OK V , I will play.
I think (presume) it's RuudVan Nistelrooy.
As I did not correct him when I quoted and posted and I feel partly responsible

Fuck. I wasn't actually playing, I assumed there was someone called Rudd.

but with £25m-30m change...........now I am not advocating selling Mascher he is my fav player, but if that money went back into buying a top class striker to go along with Torres and Ruud brought in in the short term as back up that might go some way to easing the pain.

Oh, I agree. We won't see anywhere near that amount of change though. Maybe we'll see 30M for Mascherano, but we'll never get Parker for 6M. They'll demand 10 and we'll split the difference at around 12M.

Also isn't Mascherano actually on quite a low salary due to his unique situation? One would assume that Parker will get a pay raise, and given he is already making more than Mascherano's reported salary, a good amount of the change will be eaten up with the difference in wages.

If we HAVE to rid ourselves of Mascherano (in the summer presumably) and it's already quasi worked out, and we do the Pavyluchenko(sic) for Babel swap, get Parker, and lefty mcskilledmidfielder, that could work well.

Instead we'll probably buy a LB... Can't have too many left backs.

We should buy a left-back. We need one who isn't shit

Do you think we'll replace them in January? If we do get rid of Dossena and replace on the cheap, you should steel yourself, as we know for every Arbeloa there's a Kromkamp, Josemi, Dossena, etc etc...

Dossena would take some beating.

It was curious that we started the match against Arsenal with three full backs on the bench! I wasn't sure of the point of that.

All full backs can be used as not very good wingers by Rafa, in lieu of the wingers we don't buy.

Aurelio, Riise (who actually had a good couple seasons there for us, and doesn't belong on this list), Dossena, Finnan, Kromkamp.

Im not sure weve had a hard smoking midfielder since Hamaan, maybe thats what we need to get going.....

I would also doubt that Parker would pass any medical that Rafa had in mind.

I agree with Wilko. I am not sure how old Parker is, but he will be knocking on a bit in football terms. Still I would still buy him now anyway!
