Newcastle Post Match

That will always remain one of the most bizarre statements to me, and it's always said. We need to win more when our rivals win games, not when they lose.
We actually need to win regardless of how our rivals our doing. But my point is that when we're already behind on points and chasing teams it might be helpful psychologically to catch up sooner rather than later.
Had we won yesterday and against Palace we would have been shared league leaders. I think..m

Well, it doesn't actually matter when you get the points, you just need to have more at the end of the season than everyone else.

But I suppose there is an extra psychological factor at play that can have an effect, "the gap narrowing" and all that.

For psychological reasons?

Often wondered if I'd prefer to start a season brilliantly and be miles ahead by Xmas/ Jan or play catch up and inexorably whittle a lead down.

I say "prefer", I meant which is more likely to result in winning the title.

Obviously everyone remembers Newcastle's capitulation, but is that an anomaly? If you build up a BIG lead (like Chelsea last season) you usually win it anyway?

It might be blessing we lost; 1) we won't take any team for granted 2) we won't get preemptive posts that we will smash a team 12 -0 3) fans will realise klopp is human and as such can and will make mistakes 4) klopp has learned a more from this lost and will be better prepared next 6) scm followers will stop posting jinxy shitty posts like we're gonna smash them 12-0

Hahahaha! I love the fact that a poster saying we'd win 12-0 is genuinely receiving abuse and blame for the result.

Yeah it's weird. I've noticed a lot of people trying to throw this loss in other people's faces as if it's something they deserve for getting ahead of themselves.
Did any respectable poster (not in jest) predict such an exaggerated scoreline? I remember saying we'd score three as it was away from home but not for a minute did I think a win was a formality. Predicting scores on a fan forum doesn't impact the game, it's only the internetz.

The issue with that is that if we don't score we hardly ever win.

The same poster said we'd smash Crystal Palace 10-0, 2 years back, when he gets this excited LFC only disappoint. Football superstition is legit modes operandi when it comes to Football.
Redninja put a post that we'd smash LVG's Man utd I think it was last season after we went on a 6 game winning spree. As soon as he posted it, we knew we were doomed. Redninja is still gets reminded of that post.

There are one two legitimate superstitions on 6CM that can influence a game.
  • JJ's use of Old Faithful
  • Oncy getting his dick out
The rest are just words on a computer screen.

Those can influence a game positively.

On the other end, we have Doc Mac ruining our goal difference as well as his lungs.

A few year back. there used to be the one where creating a thread on United losing would cause them to score twice, but that curse was destroyed by Moyes, so nobody needs to worry about that any more.

I agree oncey, I still think there's a chance despite that shocking result. Simply because no other side in the league seems to want it & that fixture list of ours now looks the easiest on paper.

Klopp's attitude afterwards have me hope. I think one thing I read from the past match press conference stuck out. He said something like 'if we made a mistake before the game that is easily fixed because we simply don't do that again'.

Now, unless he means training, which I doubt, the only mistake he can make before the game starts is the selection.

If anything I think that yesterday was him putting too much trust in players he hasn't given that much responsibility before. Prior to this week he'd been using a threadbare squad to pick a side, & hardly changing it, he made wholesale changes for the league cup & it worked, & then he's thought he can trust all the players in both those sides & made an amalgamation of the two.

I wouldn't be surprised if Benteke doesn't start a game for a fair while & unless injury dictates it I'd be very surprised if we start another game with Lucas & Allen together in the centre.

I think now we see if Klopp can learn from his mistakes, or if he suffers from the same hubris as all our past managers have, in sticking blindly with their mistakes in the hope they'll be proven right in the end.
Or tactics. But as you say I doubt Klopp is one to stick to something (whether it be tactics, formation or a player) out of hubris or a need to prove oneself right.

Benteke was very poor, agreed, but I don't think he was any worse than Lucas, Firmino or Allen. He was entirely isolated for much of the game, because Firmino was totally ineffective and only Ibe was making any runs forwards, and the dire midfield duo of Allen and Lucas were invisible.

I'm not trying to protect or excuse a dismal display, but he was given zero help and it seems unfair to pick him out.
And I was reading another report saying the identical thing about Firmino ... blaming Benteke. Both were shite and should have had enough common sense to realise that something more (effort, movement, accurate passing) was required.

Yeah, but it's easy to blame Benteke because of his price-tag, what he looks like and where he was signed from. Firmino is so obviously much easier for people to imagine being brilliant because he's from Brazil, can play as a "false 9", came from the Bundesliga, and his equally insane transfer fee is - unlike Benteke's - a sign of almost guaranteed quality.

But so far Benteke has been the more effective player, and Firmino has played well .....once. And only scored once too. But it was Benteke's fault that the quicksilver brain and clever movement of Firmino was wasted, notthing to do with Firmino playing shite. Again.

That was a load of old shite that.
Teams above and around us dropping points unexpectedly and we fail to capitalise against a Newcastle side in disarray. Piss poor.

Thought Clyne, Milner, Lucas, Firmino and Benteke were rotten. particular Firmino and Benteke who just went though the motions and didn't spark anything of note in the the final third. I like Benteke but he was a proper lazy cunt yesterday.

Like many have said, the team selection was baffling considering you'd have thought Sturridge would be good for 55-60 minutes and Lallana's best peformances generally come away from home. Could argue whatever the team we fielded should have been good enough to get the 3 points. Either way, what a massive disappointment and opportunity missed.

How about the words on a Tapatalk screen, do those count? 😀

I don't moan about the team selection. I'm just happy that we now have a manager that don't only think about what is best for team short term. It wouldn't surprise me if Sturridge won't be back in the starting XI week in week out until February.
