Neco Williams deal done

With a year left on their contract

Yes, and I'm saying the weighting of that on the fee is wrong.

If you had 20m to spend on one player, would you think the decision would be close on who to spend it on between a 21 year old Neco, with less than 50 games to his name, and a 29 year old Thiago with over 300 games for Barcelona and Bayern?

Regardless of contract lengths, Thiago is worth at least twice as much as Neco. At least.

I agree, it isn't logical but considering the circumstances I kinda get it. It's a "we won't stand in your way but we're not getting robbed" type deal.
Kinda what Kane thought he had with Levi. But Levi told him:

Yeah, but you either get half a decent price, from the brother in law you get on well with, for the BMW that has served you well for many years and is still ticking over nicely, or you have to give it away to the cousin you hate for nothing in 12 months time.

Also, if Bayern didnt sign Mane, they'd probably win the Bundesliga.

If Forest dont invest heavily now, and stay up, they may never get another chance.

It's not easy for a newly promoted side to sign good players. Sadio Mane, Thiago and Rudiger aren't going to sign for Nottingham Forest, whatever the price. Neco is young, eager and proved himself on loan at Fulham. He's far from a guaranteed success (think he'll flop tbh) but it's as good as Forest can get now.

Mind you, I still think we robbed them.

Its not really a case of just signing that type of player with 20 million £ to spend.
Mane got a 350k contract per week and Rudiger got 340k per week at Real Madrid.
Neco will be on what, 40k per week maybe? He's on 25k today.

Mane will earn 54,6 mill £ and Rudiger 70,7 mill £ during their contracts. Neco will earn 10,4 mill £.

That type of deal is just possible to set up for a few clubs in the World. The Neco deal is the more common and sometimes those clubs pay over the odds for potential.

Forest are obviously paying an English PL premium for Neco. But they are also paying for said potential and will have the possibility of selling him if he's a success. The contract wont bankrupt them either. Mane, Rudiger and Thiago will have close to no resale value when their contracts are finished.

His fee is probably more inflated due to his good performances for Wales and Fulham then his performances for us.
All in all its a very good deal for us and could be a good deal for Forest (if they stay up).

Thank goodness the club stuck to its guns. Williams is a more than decent player and given the premium on English or (home-grown) players-- just look at the wild valuation of Jude Bellingham-- Forest has got itself a bargain.

He's Welsh ;->
