Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi has moved to quell talk of a move to Liverpool amid speculation linking him with a summer switch to Anfield.

Rafa Benitez is expected to bolster his striking options in the close-season and the name of Argentine hit-man Lavezzi has demanded its fair share of column inches.

Lavezzi moved to Napoli in the summer of 2007 and caught the eye last season with a series of bright displays and seven goals in Serie A.

Although Napoli finished in 12th place last term, in what was a disappointing campaign, Lavezzi remains committed to the cause and has no intention of seeking a move to the Premier League.

"Liverpool's offer? I want to stay at Napoli," he said.

"I hope everything will be made clear but it depends on the club not on me.

"I reiterate that my wish is to remain at Napoli."

The 24-year-old is under contract with Napoli until June 2012.

Just a ploy to get more wages by the looks of it.

I wonder if we even made contact

A replacement for Lavezzi?...

Italy international Fabio Quagliarella has joined Napoli from Udinese in a five-year deal.

The 26-year-old was Udinese's top scorer during the 2008/09 campaign with 13 goals.

He will play under coach Roberto Donadoni at Napoli, the former Italy boss who selected Quagliarella to play at Euro 2008.

"I am very happy," said Quagliarella. "This is what I wanted.

"This is a dream come true.

"I have always been a Napoli supporter."

Napoli endured a disappointing season last term, finishing 12th in the Serie A standings with 12 wins collected in 38 games.

Lavezzi Opens Door For Move

Reported Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi seems ever more likely to be heading out of Napoli after writing a letter to fans in which he claims to have been treated with "a lack of respect" by the club.

The striker, who is under contract at the Serie A side until 2012, insisted on Monday he wants to remain at Napoli despite reported interest from the Reds.

However, the 24-year-old looks to have changed his mind amid reports of a falling out with sporting director Pierpaolo Marino.

"I'm writing this letter to the fans who have always been close to me," read Lavezzi's letter. "It's a difficult time and I hope that soon the situation will become clearer as much for you as for me.

"The only sure thing is that one day there won't be either Lavezzi or Marino but there will always be this great club and this immense city simply because Napoli does not belong to anyone, it represents the synthesis of the sentiment of their fans' dignity.

"Today I have to choose between dignity and a lack of respect, because of my loyalty to my upbringing without doubt I choose dignity."

Reports in Italy suggest Lavezzi's representatives met with Manchester United chiefs in Madrid with a view to a move to Old Trafford.

The Argentina forward's agent claims he has an offer on the table from a big club but insists nothing has been decided yet.

"This is not a goodbye letter," Alejandro Mazzoni told Sky Italia. "He was thinking about leaving an explanation for the fans, who are important for him.

"He never said he wanted to leave Napoli.

"There is a very real offer from a team who are playing in the Champions League and where he would earn much more than here.

"Marino had a strategy for arriving at the end of the season but he has not respected anything of what he promised.

"The lad wants to stay at Napoli. But for him what's more important is dignity which is above contracts, national teams, money - above everything.

"If it was for the city and fans he would stay, 100%, but if it was for the relationship between us and the directors, it would be close to zero."

Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi Says Yes To Juventus - Report

According to the latest reports coming from Italy, Lavezzi has accepted an offer from the Bianconeri following his rift with the Azzurri.

3 Jun 2009 18:09:11

Alejandro Mazzoni, agent of Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, confirmed earlier on that his client had a row with the club's general director Pierpaolo Marino, which made him run away to Argentina.

However, according to resport.it, Mazzoni has reached an agreement with Juventus in the past weeks. The reason, it seems, is that the player had been asking Napoli for an improvement of his current contract since January, but the Partenopei have not bowed down to his requests so far.

Apparently Lavezzi will receive €2.5 million per season until 2014 after Mazzoni met up with Juve's Jean-Claude Blanc and Alessio Secco, and lawyer Rossetto, who takes care of Lavezzi's interests together with the Argentinean agent.

The main obstacle remains that of Napoli, who do not want to let their star player leave. The club have often repeated that the player is not for sale, but yesterday's letter left by El Pocho might have changed things.

Developments are expected in the coming days, but what is certain now is that the Lavezzi story will be one of the hot points for this summer's transfer market.

Reds make £20million move for Lavezzi Written by Max Munton on June 8th, 2009

Liverpool have made a £20million offer for Napoli’s Agentine striker Ezequiel Lavezzi, according to the player’s agent.

The 24-year-old has been strongly tipped to leave the Serie A club after writing an open letter to the fans last week saying he had been treated with disrespect by club officials over his contract.

The Reds are thought to be in a race with Manchester City to sign Lavezzi, with his agent, Eduardo Rossetto, today confirming, “There is a definite proposal from Liverpool.

“The one thing I can say, that so far I have kept confidential, is that Pierpaolo Marino met twice with the FIFA agent Pablo Cosentino, who invited him to set a meeting in either Liverpool or Naples with the British club.â€

Speaking to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Rossetto added that no official communication has been made between his player and Liverpool yet as they await Napoli’s decision on the offer.
