LIVERPOOL have a new striker target – Lazio’s Goran Pandev.

Kop boss Rafa Benitez is determined to boost his squad despite the club’s financial problems.

The Macedonian, 25, is valued at £15million but will be out of contract in a year’s time.

Chelsea and Tottenham are among the other interested clubs.

I was mentioning him a while back. 15M is an outrageous fee though.

Unless he's the Italian who plays for Lazio, then i suspect not.

A "panic buy" in June? Good one.

He does look good, I guess, but then i was extremely optimistic about Mark Gonzalez so what do I know.

For £20M I'd at least like to have heard of the player before - the price is excessive however you look at it.

ok where would he play?

He seems interchangeable.

Given how Kuyt and Gerrard are untouchable it's Riera's position that's most under threat - and rightly so too.

He can play anywhere along the 4 attacking positions.

Where does Ronaldo play these days? Where does Rooney play? Where does Tevez play? Or Berbatov? The notion that there's no point buying another top forward because Gerrard and Torres are fixtures in the team (and Keane didn't work out) is silly. We need more quality in depth. Flexibility combined with rotation can be a good thing so long as you're rotating quality for quality.

that's the thing he looks a bit too head down, i don't think his natural position is the left of our 3 and for that money i'd want a player who is proven in that position.

buying players like this is fine if they come in to add but we all know we need a 1st choice left sided midfielder, this boy is not it.

You clearly haven't seen him play in a actual match, so have you come to this conclusion after just watching a couple of YouTube clips?

because the youtube clips show the best of a player and if thats his best he's not worth that sort of money.

1st you thought he was Italian
2nd you thought he played for Lazio

And now to top it off, after watching him play for a whopping 2mins on Youtube, your expert opinion is that he's clearly not good enough?

*Points index finger to temple and rotates in circular motion*

To be fair, I think 99% of us are talking about him with no great knowledge.

he plays in the italian league doesn't he? raf4pm you'd be ecstatic if rafa bought a 40 year old for 30 million.

come on this lad will not be good enough

None of us know anything substantial about him. You can still form an opinion, but perhaps given you don't really know anything about him, you'd take that into account when thinking about how meaningful that initial judgment is.

And you'd be miserable and angry if we signed a 20-year-old Pelé on a free transfer.

Your extremity is just as ludicrous as Rafa4PM's.

Come on, at first your negativity provided a refreshing balance to some of the over the top positivity around all things Rafa. But of late, you've just been looking for any stick to beat the man.

Until we sign him and/or he's proven sh*te.. then calm down with all the Rafa bashing. I'm one of the first to say Rafa has wasted money, and that his poor transfer cost us a potential title last season, but let's see if he can put it right eh.

If he signs Lavezzi, who's to say he'll be our starting left winger.. after selling one or two, we might go on to sign Silva after that, and actually have some *real* attacking options for a change. Lavezzi has all the tools to be a good Premiership player. Otherwise, he wouldn't be in the Argie squad. Whether he can put it together at Liverpool remains to be seen and whilst 20m is a gamble. Who had really heard of Aguero (the player you put forward so boldly) before Atletico spunked 20 odd million on him? Or Higuain before Madrid paid 13 odd million.. or Kaka.. or Pato.. or Diego?

Now, this could all be paper talk engineered by his agent to get a bigger contract. But if he does come, lets at least give the guy a chance to prove his worth, eh.

So the 20 million we haven't spent on the person you haven't watched play is all the opinion you need?

That sounds about right.

Hahaha

Ditto to Bunnymans comment in the other thread.

Rage, you've really not done yourself any favours today... even by your standards.

Napoli told to consider Liverpool offer for Lavezzi

Ezequiel Lavezzi's advisors have urged Napoli not to deny the player a move to Liverpool.

The Merseysiders have reportedly enquired about the Argentina striker only to see their advances rebuffed as Napoli look to cling on to the 24-year-old, who is under contract until June 2013.

"Liverpool's proposal is true," said Lavezzi's advisor Eduardo Rossetto.

"(Napoli general director Pierpaolo) Marino has met twice with FIFA agent Pablo Cosentino, who has invited him to set up a meeting in Liverpool or in Naples with the English outfit.

"Ezequiel has tried several times to speak to Marino but he has received no response.

"If Napoli have decided to take this extreme position, so will we.

"We don't want to force Napoli to sell the player but I think it is correct for the club just to consider the offer, to judge it whether it's sufficient or not."

Lavezzi, who joined Napoli in the summer of 2007, scored seven goals for the Serie A club in the recently-completed season.

Yeah, we should buy Tevez instead. He's £25m and has scored 5 goals.

i didn't want tevez either even though it was reported that we met his valuation. but with tevez the risk is lower whether i like him or not

After looking at the youtube clip that Spidey posted my first thoughts are he is exactly the type of player that United would take a punt on. That is a player who is direct, quick, a good dribbler and can beat a man. If United were to sign him, I would think, bloody hell why aren't we after players like him?!

Of course United can afford 20m to take a punt on this lad but I'm not sure if we can. Also, I'm not sure if I would be completely happy if we did...

Gabriele Marcotti, a pretty decent Italian football journalist, describes Lavezzi as:-

Lavezzi operates as a second striker, with the freedom to roam either wing. He's a solid crosser who can also finish, but his speciality act is as simple as it is effective. He receives the ball, usually in space, beats a man, sucks a bunch of opponents towards him and then, one of three things happens: he either wins a free-kick, bursts through a knot of defenders or lays the ball off to a now unmarked teammate, because the opposition is entirely preoccupied with him.

"The threat of what Lavezzi might do is often greater than what Lavezzi actually does," says Catania manager Walter Zenga. "That's what makes him so dangerous. He makes his opponents worry."

i feel let down by rafa thats all. it wouldn't be so bad if he took responsibility instead of shifting blame.

lavezzi for 20 million and a key strength of his - the threat of what he might do is greater than what he actually does - sounds like babel
