It's frustrating, because I genuinely do think he has a very good skill set. And for the role that Klopp wants his midfielders to play, his skill set is perfect for the role. But for some reason it just hasn't quite happened for him. He hasn't been awful, he just hasn't been able to build momentum, or force himself onto games enough.
You can't be disappointed with someone you know will be shit.
Christian Poulsen is another obvious one
He has picked up too many injuries. Just as he's starting to look like he should be getting a regular run of games, he's out for a month. I maintain there's a great player in there. I think he, a bit like Gini, has also been stymied from playing his natural, more swashbuckling game he played in Germany. He's never going to look the same player here because Klopp demands a lot of positional discipline from his midfielders. All Klopp's midfielders have to shovel a lot of shit, first and foremost.

Fair point - I should have explained further. Kewell had one serious injury whereas with Naby it's been a succession of niggles and, when the latter happens, it tends to suggest that part of the problem may lie in a lack of stomach for the fray.

I think my most disappointing signing is probably Babel, but even with him the videos I'd seen of him didn't look that exciting. He certainly didn't look like the skilful winger we'd needed for so long.
It's surprising just how few signings have actually been disappointing when you go through them. They're either good, or were totally underwhelming from the minute we were linked.
I'd have to go right back to someone like Collymore tbh to find a better example than Babel and Keita.

Yes, in terms of what he ultimately produced. His case is perhaps a bit more forgivable though, inasmuch as it wasn't for lack of trying.
I dont think Collymore was a bad or underperforming signing. He scored 26 goals in 61 Premier league games for us, and left because he fell out with Evans if I remember correctly.
There are certainly other signings that are much worse to say the least.
Purely in terms of talent, Fowler and Collymore were always a threat. Regrettably the team and the club were adrift under Uncle Roy (something to which they both contributed unfortunately) so that combo never really fulfilled its potential.

The list is very long indeed. Among the players not mentioned so far...I had high hopes for Raul Meireles and Joe Cole.
I thought Litmanen was fantastic when given the chance to play. What a player. His time at LFC was ultimately wasted due to his relationship with Houlier I think.
Really? Meireles was one of our best players that season.
