I really hope Mign is aware that every corner going forward will be in swingers with 2-3 players around him or the near post ...
I still don't get peoples fascination with replacing Mignolet, there's much bigger issues in our team.
I'm not saying he can't be improved upon, just that we have much bigger issues.I'm not so sure about that - confidence comes from the keeper and flows throughout the team - I would ask the question:- If we'd have got Petr Cech at the start of the season and Arsenal had signed Ming would we have done better? would they have suffered?
If we had better centre backs neither of those goals would have happened. Sure he should have done better, but all three goals stemmed from dreadful defending. There's not really. There are equally pressing issues, but he cost us two daft goals yesterday and has been culpible in other games too, his flaws don't seem to be getting any better, ie distribution on the break, command of his box, decision making. He's poor and not good enough for a top side.
His starting positions isnt the best for the 2nd goal, to say the least.

It's not really shortsighted, I'd argue the opposite, the goals we are conceding are simple to defend, really simple, to pin it on Mignolet is to almost excuse that. Mignolet is very good at making acrobatic saves, in fact in general he's a pretty good shot stopper, if he had even a competent defensive pair in front of him, whilst I'd imagine we'd want to improve upon him, he'd be more than good enough for a team in the top four.I think that's a bit shortsighted Mystic, you rely on your keeper as the last line of defense, so if your defenders are breached, you want someone you can rely on to not get beaten at the near post (for instance).
They aren't directly, Lallana / general poor defensive organisation is, something they (and to be fair Mignolet) is responsible for.Look at the pic above for their second goal and tell me how either centre half is to blame? They are marking in the middle, the ball gets played in near post, flicked on ( towards the goal ) and the keeper isn't able to keep it out. Only one person at fault there. As has been said, it's going to be like downtown Beirut during an Israeli fly by for ming from now on. Every single team will have looked at the Exeter corner last week and last night's and there is only one place covers are going from now on. Right under the crossbar whee he will crap himself.
I think the reaction is very harsh. Second goal was a touch on a corner before it got to him - not really his fault. First was a cracking finish - yes, he should have saved it, but time to calm down I think...

Oh it is an issue, it's just I think he's more the symptom than the problem, you'd read this thread and think he was the number one problem with our squad, when in fact I think he's fine in the short, maybe even medium term. Sort out the defence and I'm sure Mignolet will be good enough for now, thankfully the Matip signing suggests that Klopp is working on that.the defense was breached yesterday for the first goal thanks to Sakho getting a knock and no one else being alert to the situation, granted, but the keeper was still beaten at his near post, through he himself not being alert to the situation. I don't get why that isn't an issue.
I agree he gets some harsh criticism from some quarters, but this was more than warranted. You can't pinpoint blame at just the defense, otherwise we may aswell point the finger further upfield, at the end of the day, everyone has to do their job, Mignolet included.

If we have any ambition then he has been signed as our number two from next season when we go out and buy a shit hot number one.
There are some hyperbolic extreme opinions in this thread but this is one fucking funny post.Ermm... Champs you say?? Well... how to put it really?...
To my mind Mersey86 It is a towering fact, borne out by repeated performance, that Simon Mignolet is an absolutely fucking cack Goalkeeper and he regularly, including last night costs us goals for no other reason than that fact, his factual cackness, his cacknessity. He is Ur-Cack to use the German prefix, or with a IT analogy he came pre-installed with tragic shitness.
I want to see him play for us about as much as I want Ian Ayre to get begging on the phone to Musa Aman, current chairman of Sabah FA in Malaysia and offer Coutinho, Ibe and 50M in cash plus add ons for the signature of El hadji Diouf.
I would rather watch Steven fucking hawking in our nets than have to suffer Mig again. If we had Steven in our goal at least he might have time during rain soaked ninety minutes stuck there occasionally rotating or offering the occasional inadvertent ricochet he may be able via judicious sucking blowing and winking in his electronic wizard chair to eek out some interesting post match comments about the nature of the universe.
I genuinely find it is perverse in the extreme to not recognise just how fucking monumentally SHITE a player he is, I honestly find it bizarre simply fucking BIZARRE to defend his presence in the team and when I say bizarre I really do mean FUCKING STRANGE WEIRD WHAT THE VERY FUCK DO YOU MEAN?!?!
Please note i don't think unusual, i think bizarre... like wanking onto a dead shellfish on a live webcast singing Macarthur Park dressed as animal from the muppets... that kind of bizarre...
So... no Mersey i'm not so sure about Champs... I think it may help though overall... yeah...
Tell Robbie, much love from SCM as well please. Ta.@Judge Jules Next time you're praying or are in touch with God on any level can you please let him know that Ming is 69 years of age?

Glad to have given you the chance to let off steam - seems like you may have needed it.😉Ermm... Champs you say?? Well... how to put it really?...

Seems like he was covering the middle, then reacted to the ball coming dangerously at the near post. He got to the ball, but Giroud's deflection made the save a lot harder. To be fair to Mignolet - I know that's hard for many of us - the ball should not have reached him as it did - it was badly defended. One of the reasons is the makeshift defense we have after so many injuries - these things happen. Toure is past his prime, Sakho needs a couple of games. We're going to be more vulnerable at the back. Throwing it all on Mignolet is unfair - though he takes a share of the blame, certainly. His starting positions isnt the best for the 2nd goal, to say the least.
