Minging it till 2020

I dread to think what sort of fee Stoke will ask for him.
Within reason, whatever it was i'd pay it. And that's not even because i think Butland is some kind of world superstar. Just that at, say, £20m he represents a far better bet to build a defence around for the next 10yrs than Mignolet

Also Mignolet said in his press release...

"I’m the sort of character that wants to be a leader, wants to speak in the dressing room and wants to help the defence."

...which also shows hes completely fucking deluded

It's hard to believe Stoke signed him for £4 Million. Especially after he'd looked so good playing for the Olympics team (which was also part of the reason why Joe Allen cost £15 Million).

I wonder if we didn't go for him due to our experiences signing Kirkland

Nah. We didn't go for him because we are clueless in transfers.

I thought goalkeepers peak later in life ?

Should Mignolet be about to improve over the next few years?

That interview is pretty conclusive. We intend to keep him, and we're certainly not going to be looking to replace him anytime soon.

Which is a bit pathetic.

He must have been better when at Sunderland? Anyone who remembers?

I certainly rated him in his time there. Quite a few on here would have preferred to sign Begovic, but I wasn't one of them and the way things have gone for Begovic at Chavski confirms me in my view from back then, namely that the two of them are much of a muchness and Mignolet is better on his line.

If I was Mignolet with our defence in front of me I'd be nervy. I think it's going to take more than replacing a goalkeeper for us to stop conceding from corners.

Also if we were able to keep the ball, take a proper attacking corner ourselves, and occasionally score at the other end he'd be forgotten.

He's getting stick for the team's deficiencies. He makes enough saves and keeps enough clean sheets. The focus should be on the team first.

I don't think our defence helps but he'd been a massive liability at times. Holding on to the ball for 22 seconds. Completely his fault. Flapping at countless corners that come into HIS zone. Completely his fault. Two near post goals let in vs Arsenal, at least a good bit his fault. Missing a corner vs West Brom. His fault. I don't think getting a better keeper would instantly turn around our defence, but it'd be a good start. It's his third season and he has cost us a noticeable amount of goals in each season.

I'm not sure save percentage is meaningless.

It doesn't come close to telling a full story. If your defence are keeping the opposition to difficult shots, your saves are easier and your percentage will be higher. And vice vera.
The best keepers are not necessarily at the top of that list and the worst are not necessarily at the bottom. They're essentially meaningless.

You're the Mignolet of posters Dreamy. You're essentially a decent guy, but you do my fucking head in and I wish you had nothing to do with the football club I support.
Ha, I see fatherhood has softened you. At least now I'm a decent guy.

You barely post anymore so my annoyance levels should be pretty low and much like other areas of our team need addressing before Ming other issues on the site, such as the constant bitching at each other need addressing before me. 🙂

Fulton's gone on loan to Portsmouth. He's the one young keeper who, IMHO, has a bit of aggression and maturity about him, and looks to lead the defence, so it'll be interesting to see how he fares if he actually gets a game.

BBC Sport:

Portsmouth have signed teenage Liverpool goalkeeper Ryan Fulton on a youth loan until the end of the season.
Fulton, 19, is a Scotland Under-21 international who has yet to play first-team football for Liverpool.

He was named as an unused substitute for the Reds in two League Cup ties against Carlisle and Bournemouth earlier this season.

Fulton is expected to provide competition for Portsmouth goalkeepers Brian Murphy and Paul Jones.

Did Dreamy really just say we could have him for 10 years and the keeper isnt a priority?

Dude. What do you watch? He is fucking awful.

He is awful I didn't mean I want him I meant he's young so we could be stuck with him. Keepers often improve with age especially towards 30 and many play close to 40. He could be around for a long time.

I think when we talk about Mignolet, it's time to bring out that Burnley clip from last year.

Tells you all you need to know about our Simon.
