Michael Owen..

I don't care that he's better than N'gog. I don't even hate the guy.

But if anyone doesn't deserve to play for Liverpool again, it's him.

I'd rather have N'Gog.

So would I. That wasn't the point though. 😛

I knew who I was talking to. Owen is clearly better than Ngog, Spoin.
Am I going mad? Or are you dragging up some long ago made point? Cos I can't remember ever saying that!
Sorry mate. I just read back over the thread and it was SummerOnions who said Ngog was better than Owen. Sorry for any confusion. You ARE going a bit mad though!

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is planning an audacious swoop to sign Man United striker Michael Owen this January. The Anfield boss has limited attacking options and believes that the England international’s lack of first team action may make him a viable purchase.

Sir Alex Ferguson may well resist offers for the 30 year old striker even though he appears to be low down the pecking order at Old Trafford. Owen will not have been happy about missing out on Champions League action in Valencia after he followed up his brace at Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup with a crucial equalizer away at Bolton.

The former Liverpool legend has his fair share of detractors among the Anfield support but there is no arguing about the success he had during his eight years in the firs team during which time he netted an incredible 158 goals in 297 matches.

The Chester born striker has been plagued with injuries since he left Liverpool but when called upon is still a lethal finisher and could offer decent support to Fernando Torres and help share the goal scoring load. A move for Owen would only cost around £4-5m as his contract is due to run out in the summer when he will no doubt be the subject of much speculative interest.

I thought Owen was on a pay as you play thing? Therefore no 'real' contract?

He's not worth 4-5 Million for 5 months thats a fucking Million a month, and he's Free in May.

But Owen and Torres would be good, if they didn't both get injured at the same time 🙂 and thats a 'big' if

Ferguson would never sell to us though would he?
We aint a threat anymore, he'd do it to shaft us on buying 2010 Owen for 3.5 million less than we sold 2005 Owen for in his prime.

He might now that we are not a direct threat to his team.

We arn't a threat to ANY fucking team, we are a joke at the moment.

Realistically we haven't been much of a threat to United for a good few years now anyway. I don't think he would sell us anyone just on principle.
We don't need to throw away another 5M on another slow player past his best.
Especially when he's FREE 5 months later. Just grab the twat on a pre contract in Jan, and watch him fuck us off for more money with Birmingham or West Ham or someone

I don't believe anyone would risk a transfer fee for Michael Owen at this stage, let alone a club with financial difficulties.

No quotes from Hodgson so probably sheer speculation. Just in case: Message for Hodgson - when you're in a hole stop digging.

We did finish runners-up to them not so long ago.

There was one key word in my previous post.

Yes we may have finished second that season but did anyone REALLY think we were going to win the thing? Do you think United were really that worried?

I would have a fit owen in my starting 11 every day - he's still a fantastic footballer

We were in the driving seat in the middle of the season, but when we started to draw games I'm sure Ferguson knew the game was up even if they had to go on a very good winning streak to ensure it.

Either way, we've been pretty insignificant as far as the title race is concerned for a long time now and one decent season doesn't really detract from that point.

For what it's worth I think the key game was Utd vs Villa when they got back into it late on. A reverse for them at that time would have tipped the balance our way. It was that close.

Still don't want him back.

The best thing Owen can do is join Houllier's villa come january, he'll get games week in week out regarding injuries..

Probably right.

I'd still take him back, but I'm not really bothered.

Think this is exactly right. Was watching that game and felt the title disappear as the ball curved inside the post. Didn't believe that prick had the ability to score from there so was all the more gutted when he managed it. Firmly believe they would have stumbled had they not managed to turn that match around. If I'm honest I thought they were the best team for most of the season but we blew it big time.

As for Owen - I still think he was one of our all time best strikers but he really did die in my mind when he signed for the mancs. After stating catgorically that he'd never play for them I think he burned his last route home when he pulled on their shirt. I agree with Lady - his best move would be to sign for Villa. GH has always been happy with him and a Heskey/Owen partnership may well be good for all of them.
