Never heard of him.

Am I going to like him?
That depends on if he can run fast and plays well in his first game I guess.
ha ha ha

Ah yes, 'run fast' that famous attribute of Alonso, one of my favourite recent midfield players. Who you thought *Lucas* could deputise for. And then Aquilani

All he does is pass, anyway

Ie wind your fucking neck in
Lucas did deputise for him. Just not very well.

Re: Meireles.

so the question is will roy partner meireles with gerrard or with lucas/poulsen with gerrard further forwards and cole on the left
I think the bigger question is 'What the fucks happened to your shift key?'

Re: Meireles.

I would imagine he'll do both at some point, Neil.

We now seem to have the players to better play 4-3-3 and if Roy can nab the Swedish forward before Tuesday, we'll be in decent shape.

Re: Meireles.

Rolling on the pitch holding his shin after a late tackle, I wonder if the latter would yell "Oweoooooooooooo"

Re: Meireles.

Hodgson's Fulham midfield was less rigid than ours, with less specialised players and ones more all-rounded, albeit less talented.

If he's going to pair up Meireles with Gerrard then I think he's bringing that ethos to Liverpool. This is largely how United went after they replaced Roy Keane.

I'm not mad about this Swede, he doesn't look very mobile. I'd rather Wolfwinkle.
I don't think we will be going for the swede somehow, now that PSV have qualified for the Europa League group stages.

It will likely be someone else. who I do not know..
Sometimes people post things on here about football and i do that thing Joey does where he nods and smiles at the conversation he doesn't understand.

Re: Meireles.

BTW, the fact that we seem to have basially signed this guy and there wasn't even a whispered internet rumour about it, shows how fucking crap the blogosphere is at predicting this kinda thing.

Re: Meireles.

Perhaps wonderfully rich, life long Liverpool fans will drop in unannounced tomorrow to buy the club.

Re: Meireles.

Fulham's midfield was less specialised and more well-rounded?

Yeah, like murphy who can pass and take set-pieces, but can't run, and Etuhu, who just runs and kicks people but can't do anything else

Spot on that observation

Re: Meireles.

Give him 3-5 games before I make a typically astute assessment of whether he will be of any use to us.

my wireless keyboard is screwed, I have a new one on order 🙂

Re: Meireles.

I'll be happy if he joins us. He's definitely not a like for like replacement for Mascherano (who is?), but he'll bring a lot of good qualities to our midfield. Someone called him a poor man's Alonso earlier, while I agree that he's closer to Xabi than Masher in his style of play, but he is quite a different player.

Meireles is assured in possession, a good passer, gets in and around the opponents' box and has got good shooting ability. We shouldn't expect to see him making driving runs with the ball though, he's quite mobile, but I don't classify him as a box to box midfielder as some have said he is. He is a good tackler, but not a defensive midfielder per se and as such I don't see him being Gerrard's central midfield partner if and when we play 4-4-2. We'll be better of with him partnering Poulsen in midfield and Stevie further forward behind Torres.

Of course you're going to like him, not only will he keep Lucas out of the team but he's actually much better too.

Re: Meireles.

Well that was the minimum fucking requirement for that spineless Italian bellend, and look what happened there

But yeah, as long as he keeps The Cunt out of the first team, it's money well spent

Don't be silly, we'll judge on his very first performance & refuse to change our minds afterwards, as always. Silly.

Re: Meireles.

from what ive seen i like him, puts his boot in has a bit of pace and is prepared to make runs into the box, not gonna be a 20 goal a season midfielder but we already have one of those what we need is somebody who can keep things ticking over in the centre and i think he fits the bill nicely, if we had a real battler like Dufour alongside him instead of Lucas or Poulsen i would be more confident

Spending £11m to replace a £6m signing is good business?

Wonder what Pedigree would pay for Lucas?

Cole's first appearance was fucking aces, his second quite the opposite.

Well not really, we're spending £11m to hopefully replace £12m Alonso, £20m Aquilani and £6m Lucas.

Re: Meireles.

The general consensus is that £11 million is cheap, because its the last year of his contract.

Looks like he's got two good feet aswell, we've lacked goals from the middle of the park for ages too, so it'll be refreshing if he comes in and weighs in with a few.
