Meireles. *SIGNED*

Re: Meireles.

The Echo said Roy is after a striker, a left back and a midfielder.

Add the Masch money to whatever pot Roy has and we probably have a bit more than 6 mill on a striker and a left back.

So, Meireles, Konchesky and then who eh? Toivonen seems to be the preffered choice.

From an article in the Guardian about Masher leaving and Roy being angered by it:

A deal for the Fulham defender Konchesky is expected to go through now that Carlos Salcido has completed his transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Craven Cottage, while Toivonen, the PSV forward, is under consideration. Konchesky, 29, will arrive in a £3m package, consisting of promising young Liverpool players Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic moving in the opposite direction, plus cash.

Re: Meireles.

PSV stated they have no intention of releasing Toivonen. Perhaps that was just because we only enquired at that point instead of following up with a proper bid though.

If not Ola, who else do people reckon we might get?

I seem to recall reading quotes by some chief at PSV that he was resigned to losing Toivonen.

Re: Meireles.

We've been linked with Pazzini, Toivonen, Carlton Cole, Milevskiy, Crouch, Trezeguet and lot more aswell.
The thing is, this Meireles transfer came out of the blue, the same might happen to the striker situation.

If this deal goes through, I feel a lot more confident about our replacements and additions. At least Meireles is a top top player and will improve us.

Re: Meireles.

Meireles, Konchesky, Von Wolfswinkel or Ola Toivonen and that wouldnt be too bad 🙂

Swap konchesky with a better left back and that would be pretty good

This is a cracking signing. Great midfielder that ticks every box. Fucking made up, I've wanted us to sign him for years.

Great engine and a fantastic passer of the ball. Doesn't shy out of a challenge either.

According to Jornal de Noticias, which is Portugals biggest newspaper, he has just arrived at Merseyside, and will try to finalize his deal today.

YES!!

Oh, and according to Dominic King in the Echo, Roy will get to spend everything from the Mascher fee. Left back, midfielder and a striker.

Wicked! 6m for a LB and a striker!

Hahahahahaha!

Re: Meireles.

In the event that Mascherano returns to Anfield - be it with his dream club Barca or his other dream club Inter, or some other dream club that he didn't mention .... will he be applauded or booed?

He probably would have been applauded right up to the moment he refused to play for the club. He pissed on his chips there. God knows what reaction he'll get now. What a stupid decision he made. Fucking badge kissing cunt.

Re: Meireles.

I know precisely nothing about this guy, but I too will join the "He's the bestest player in the whole wide world" gang until proven otherwise

The Meireles deal will be structured pretty much like the Masch deal, i'd say 7.5 - 8 mil up front, rest depending on appearances (upto 3 mil).
Konchescky deal has players coming the other way as part of the deal, (cant believe we are selling Dalle Valle). Mash deal was report 17.25 mil up front, So you are probably looking at 7 - 7.5 mil tops left for a striker.

Re: Meireles.

I'm glad we're adding something to the middle of the park, he looks hard as nails, and can play (and score) a bit too.

Re: Meireles.

Decent enough pick up.

If we can somehow find a new club for Lucas and bring in Inler then things will start to look promising.

Re: Meireles.

Are the Inler rumours solid or was he an option instead of Meireles? Anyone have any idea how much he'd cost?
We wouldn't sign both Mark. They're similar. Inler is more combative though.

Inler was rumoured to be the same amout Mark, about 13 mill euros. They're quite similar, though Meireles is more a box to box type player that is always moving. Both have excellent passing range, but Meireles scores more goals.
Meireles is better defensivey though.
A partnership between Meireles and Gerrard in a 4-4-2 could be very good.

We're signing the right one out of those two imho.

Re: Meireles.

We signed Meireles instead of Inler because Meireles has tattoos.... he'll have no problem fitting in with the lads.

Re: Meireles.

Quite looking forward to seeing him in a red shirt I have to say, not quite as good as Masher, but will offer more going forward from what I have seen.

Liverpool FC in double swoop for Meireles and Konchesky

LIVERPOOL are on the verge of completing a double deal for FC Porto star Raul Meireles and Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky.

With Javier Mascherano heading to Barcelona, supporters were anxious to see whether Hodgson would be given the chance to reinvest the substantial fee the club will receive for the Argentine.

That is most certainly the case as Mierles, one of Portugal’s stand out performers at the World Cup finals, will plug the gap left by Mascherano’s departure and Konchesky will provide the cover Liverpool have required at left-back all summer.

Konchesky, who the ECHO first reported was a target for Hodgson on July 31, is expected on Merseyside in the next 24 hours to wrap up a deal that could eventually cost Liverpool £5m.

A former England international, Konchesky scored one of West Ham United’s goals against Liverpool in the 2006 FA Cup final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, when his arcing cross from the left flank deceived Pepe Reina.

But it is the swoop for Meireles that excites most; a combative player with excellent repertoire of passing, the 27-year-old has been courted by a host of Europe’s top clubs.

Capped 38 times by his country, Meireles will cost Liverpool £10.7m and his move will be made official once he has completed the formalities of passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

Hodgson, whose side return to Premier League action against West Brom at Anfield tomorrow, is then expected to make one more addition to his squad before the transfer window closes at 6pm on Tuesday evening.

He wants to bring in cover for Fernando Torres and Sweden international Ola Toivonen is high on his wanted list; discussions remain ongoing with PSV Eindhoven but the manager does have other options to turn to if they are not successful.

It will be a busy few days for Hodgson as a side from bringing players in, there are expected to be a number of departures as he gets his 25-man squad in order.

Never heard of him.

Am I going to like him?
That depends on if he can run fast and plays well in his first game I guess.

Re: Meireles.

Ah yes, 'run fast' that famous attribute of Alonso, one of my favourite recent midfield players. Who you thought *Lucas* could deputise for. And then Aquilani

All he does is pass, anyway

Ie wind your fucking neck in
