He has played left-back. The article suggests he didn't have the best of times doing so.

Ahhh ok.

Gerrard was deployed at Right Back when he first broke into the team...and then moved to midfield where he was much more comfortable.

Hardly means he was incapable or 'not have the best of times'.

Konchesky will be our LB, with Aurelio and Insua deputising.

I know this is depressing, but it has to be accepted. If Meireles plays LB, Lucas will play CM, and that means we will not win.

We should play them where they're best though.

Poulsen and Meireles are an interesting choice tho.

It might not mean Lucas is off tho I hope it does.

It could possibly mean Lucas will stay as 3rd choice depending on where Hodgson plays Gerrard.

I think that's possibly why he's move Aquilani on; he probbly does see Gerrard as a second striker/forward option.

We have Jovanovic, Cole, Kuyt, and Torres as attacking options besides Gerrard, and I think we should have sold Kuyt since I dont see any of them being able replacements for Torres..though I think they could prove good backup.

He might very well be capable of playing there, but...

After overcoming a difficult start to life at his hometown club, in which he was utilised in an unfamiliar left-back role, 2005-06 saw Meireles establish himself as a regular in his more natural central midfield position.

... that suggests he didn't enjoy his spell at LB there unless you think having a difficult time in an unfamiliar position means something other than "not having the best of times".

Fair enough 🙂

If we bring in Inler that means Lucas is gone though.

Wasnt here some talk about him being wanted by someone for 7 million or something?

Shold have sold him and stumped up a little more for Inler.

...and Maxi and Pacheco.

Raul Meireles has insisted he is not a Javier Mascherano clone after completing his move to Liverpool.

The 27-year-old has joined Roy Hodgson's side for 14million euros (£11.5million), the Premier League club announced on their official website. Portugal international Meireles has signed a four-year contract and will add weight to a Reds midfield which was looking short on numbers following the departures of Mascherano and Alberto Aquilani.

And, quoted in the Sunday Express, he said: "Roy Hodgson was key to me coming here because he worked so hard to sign me. I am Meireles and not Mascherano and that will be clear to the fans. I hope one day the Liverpool fans will remember me for being successful."

Meireles has won four titles with Porto and been capped 38 times by Portugal, playing in all four of his country's games at this summer's World Cup.

Can he play today?
Nope. Same with Konchesky.

Just imagine. Gerrard, Meireles, Inler, Poulsen, Shelvey, as our midfield options.

NO LUCAS. It's a fucking dream, and if it comes true I will be far more optimistic than I was at 10pm Monday night.

I'm not mad about Inler at all at all. When I've seen him he's looked a bit shite.

I'd much rather Gary Medel (better the devil you don't know) or Defour (just to have a centre midfield that Fergie wanted) or Hamsik (he'd have to change that hair though).

I hope he fucking cracks Rooney in two in a few weeks.
He's already split Giggs in half.

Hear hear.

I think we are going to see cole at left midfield, because I feel certain, roy (safe hands) will partner meireles with poulsen rather than gerrard.

Now he has to play Meireles-Gerrard in the middle
Doubt it, they're both a bit similar in style by all accounts.

It'll probably be Poulsen and Meireles, with Gerrard or Cole ahead.

Bit thin. He must masturbate a lot.
Hasnt fucking worked for me.
