Aquilani set to receive Azzurri recall

Juventus midfielder is edging closer to a National team recall in the wake of his recent performances, claimed Italy coach Cesare Prandelli in an interview given to the Italian media. Alberto Aquilani has been in supreme form ever since he made his loan switch from Anfield based outfit Liverpool FC. Aqua man moved to Liverpool last year in a deal that was worth a reported 20 million Euros. Injuries blighted his stay there as the playmaker found it difficult dealing with the rigours of highly physical English League. Despite putting in some impressive performances for the team, new coach Roy Hodgson decided to offload the highly rated midfielder.

"Alberto is one of the strongest midfielders in Italy. In fact he was in the national team already, but left because of physical problems. If he has consistency then he will surely be importantâ€, Prandelli said.
Prandelli has also praised Juventus for their contribution to the Azzurri. Juventus traditionally focus on developing Italian players, indeed the World Cup winning batch of 2006 had no less than eight players on Bianconeri pay cheque.
"Juventus? They are a club with strategies focussing on Italian players. There are many Juventus players in the national team, but not because they wear the Bianconeri shirt, but because they are good."

We'd be doing well to get a higher price for him on the basis of his current form, given that they have a stipulated buy out fee already in the contract......

At best we can hope his current form stops them pursuing their rumoured strategy of pulling out of the agreed contract at the end of the loan, and attempting to made good a deal in the region of 7m.

juventus really got the best out of the Aquilani and Poulsen swap.... I bet they cant believe their luck.

Almost every Juventus fan says that Poulsen is the worst player they've seen in the last decade at Juventus!

And I doubt his price tag will go beyond the 10M value which Juve have on him.... which other club would pay more than 10M for him? None... if we ask for more, Juventus can just easily say no - and then what?

We keep him, and play him.

Like we should have done this year.

Depends on how the option is worded, but usually not.

It's an option which allows them to buy at a fixed price if they want.

We're not obligated to sell if we decide not to sell.

We just cant sell to others at a higher price if they exercise their option.

i'm fairly sure the option's set at 16m euros, or around £13.8m at current rates, but 5% (around £700k) is payable to roma, so we'd be looking at a £4m loss on him in terms of the £17.1m fee.

probably around the same as the loss we'll end up making on christian poulsen.

Yup, it would make Rafa's spending not look too bad at all.

A successful transfer in your eyes, Mr Hague.

the truth must never die!!!!!!!!!!

anyway, i ain't never posited that it'd make it a successful transfer, just a better transfer. comparison: projected loss on £17m for aquilani, 23%. actual loss on £18m for diouf, cheyrou and diao, 81%.

but yeah, who fucking *cares* about money recouped?! it's not like that money could be spent ultimately on a succesful transfer, such as raul meireles. hahaha.

Well, some bright spark would post the percentage drop in the plethora of other Rafa failures (whichicouldmentionbutimtiredoftyping)

The another bright spark would talk about the increase in value in some other players (Crouch,Alonso,Mascher)

And repeat ad nauseam.

I don't believe it's that clear-cut. I have relatives in Malta who support Juve and make it to a few home games each season. They reckon Poulsen was poorly treated by the Juve management, would have kept him in preference to Momo, and tell me that that view is quite widespread among other Juve fans they know.

Aquilani is proving his class and talent in a league suited to his abilities.

He showed glimses of his class but not enough to bed down a first team place. The Premiership simply overwhelmed him with the speed, robustness and physical strength of the opposition.

We may well get the agreed fee from Juve because they have to option to buy. If they fail to meet the agreed price, no deal.

Apparantly he was brilliant again tonight.

Christ i wish he had made it here. What a player he is on his day.

The whole Aquilani saga disappoints me. I sort of look forward to a few autobiographies being written to get the full story on Keane and Aquaman.

Yeah, it fucks me off too.

I think it's made annoying by the fact that we signed him in the first place. It would seem as though there was no real desire to build the team around him and Gerrard in midfield and so it was always doomed to failure.

Meireles isn't as talented as Aquilani, but he's probably easier to integrate into the side.
