Man Utd @ Old Toilet, match thread

Why didn't you raise this with Kenny after he changed a fantastic system with Meirless, Lucas, Suarez, Kuyt etc at the beginning of last year? Why didn't you point out how the attempts to partner Carroll and Suarez were failing time after time?

** I am not looking for likes. Please don't like this post as I am just trying to debate with a poster I respect (despite what I find agenda driven posting that makes me feel like I did when a few posters celebrated Kenny's sacking). **
BUT I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO LIKE

It wasn't just a game when Hicks and Gillett were fucking up the club and in their own polite way FSG are doing a decent job of ruining it.

This lot might be rather incompetent, however the last lot were diabolical, hitler-esque evil bastards.

Yeah I think it's a bit silly to more or less equate them to H&G. They're a bit useless but they're not the reason we're a bit shit, except to the extent that they keep making questionable managerial appointments.

It's only a game.
It's statements like that which make me doubt this whole 'We have the best supporters stuff'! They were evil.

Still cant believe we had 2 strikers on the bench. Must be years since that happened the last time.

We lost to a team with better players (who've been playing longer togethor) and a better manager who were 21 points ahead of us before a ball was kicked. And it was at their ground.

Were most of you expecting we'd win? I hadn't accepted a defeat before a ball was kicked like, but I did acknowledge the reality of the fucking situation. We were quite unlikely to get anything out of this thing.

I think there are plenty who didn't expect to get anything out of this one (me included) but after making it hard for them (albeit giving away 2 shit goals) and a good second half performance, it's hard not to be disappointed we couldn't salvage a point. And let's be honest, United weren't fucking overly classy themselves. They were there for the taking, and we fucked up.

I don't think so.

They went 2-0 up and relaxed. They're a million miles better than us.

yeah but you can expect a better performance and the team putting up some fight . Until our goal we were useless with no real plan at all . It was way too easy for united .

In isolation an away defeat to united is not the end of the world but what the performance did was highlight how far behind we are and how many issues we still need to resolve . We've had a number of issues all season and don't seem to be making much headway into these . It's one step forward , one step back . People will argue that patience is needed , fair enough that's true but the debate is how long should you be patient for and what levels of progress you should see during that period .

Well we finished last season in 8th place, 37 points behind the league winners. And started this season
having to trim our squad and spend less than we usually have. It’s fair to say that eating into that gap is going to take significantly longer than 6 odd months.

They've been dominated by far shitter teams than us for long periods this season. To me, we started the game like pussies (Rodgers? Players?) and they took full advantage of it. If we'd come out with some intent, it may have been different. We can't play scared against big teams ...

Utd may be a million miles away in points but they're not much better than us. The difference this season has largely been a 'better' squad, luck, confidence and finishing.

Even with their poorest team on the pitch, they ooze confidence. Its something we need to learn.

Nah, I do think they took their foot off the gas. They were pressing far harder in the first half.

As for far shitter teams, we seem to be one of them right now. Play one of the big boys, get trounced for 60mins and then give a rousing display before heading back home on the bus with nothing to show for it but a few good cheers.

They're not. If we didn't play like a complete set of fucking cowards in the first half, we could have nicked the first goal. As it was, we had a calamity of errors that led to their first goal.

Had we not had our heads not been up our arses, like I said, we had the beating if them. You can make all the excuses you like about not having the same quality as Utd, but at the end of the day, if we played with a bit of balls, we could've taken the game to them and got off to a better start.

According to the daily star paper RVP got motm & downing got star shocker they got in wrong in both accounts for me..

What exactly does "star shocker" mean? Worst player on the pitch? If so, they did indeed get both wrong. RVP was relatively quiet throughout. And Downing was probably our third or fourth best players (apart from the subs), although that's not saying much.

Wellbeck was the man of the match for me. And Allen was the "star shocker".
