Man Utd @ Old Toilet, match thread

Rodger got it wrong with that starting line up..

Fergie must of been laughing his tits off...

I'll never understand how manager's give away momentum by making huge changes against certain sides.

Moreover, if Utd have shown one thing this year it's defensive frailty so Rodgers in his wisdom sets up defensively.

Really fucking frustrated.

Shows how inexperienced our manager is..

Let hope he takes the positives out of this game and moves forward with them..

Sturridge, Suarez, Borini. This line-up could work. But I think the fullbacks are essential for it to be at its best.
Wisdom isn't comfortable on the ball, and doesn't offer anything going forward.

We need Enrique on the left and Johnson on the right.
We looked good last season with Kelly bombing forward on the right with Johnson on the left, so that might work as well.

Anyway, when the three forwards were playing today, they were trying to force the issue, movements galore. I've not seen our front three play like that all season.
Christ, if we could get Sneider (or any other great AM) in that advanced midfield position, with Lucas and Gerrard behind, we'd be good.. Very good.

It's 'managers'. An apostrophe doesn't denote plurality, but possession.

Yup. No doubt we'll get a "positives" thread to talk about how good we looked when our merry bunch of losers finally had nothing left to lose and decided to crawl out of their shells and start passing to one another.

Yes, the stats will be studied like UKIP seeking positives from the polls. But that's what it's been like all season. There's no point in pace and passing if it's mainly sideways in areas that don't hurt the opposition. Every time a direct ball is on the team ignore it. And it's no good saying things improved in the second half - when that happens every now and again it's a sign of good management, but when it happens most games it's a sign the manager has repeatedly fecked up at the start. I don't know what kind of game it is they're trying to win but it's not football.

Well done to Sturridge.
Him and Suarez are going to be an absolute handful.

Brendan needs to grow some balls and start with the most attacking setup come next game.

I fell asleep for most the match, when I woke the second half was on and United still looked the better team until the made subs bringing on defensive players, then Liverpool started getting all the possession.
Just me who saw it like this?

Midfield was too static

I'm on the Joe sideways camp now

I'm also in the lucas is overrated camp now. Coming back from injury? Fine, but we need better

Immense is a little over the top, he missed a sitter from from 5 yards out.

That said he did play well when he came on.
From a tight angle on his weak foot.

He injected so much passion and movement into our play.

It was like there were 2 suarez

Right now Gerrard HAS to play in the advanced role.
Fuck this stupidity of playing Allen furthest up.

'Allen hasn't been playing in his best postion' my arse.

Much better in the 2nd half, pity we didn't start like that. Midfield looks a real soft touch and a right side of Downing / Wisdom isn't ever offering much against a side like them. Still got a long way to go this side but at least they made a game of it.

He should start next game, probably should have started this one, hindsight eh!

Yep. I don't understand why he didn't start at all. At this point in time he's clearly a better player than Sterling. In fact he's clearly better than all our attackers bar Suarez.

Hardly a sitter but should have done much better. Showed some promise (apologies for saying such a crazy thing of course) and sooner he gets match fit the better. We've still a long way to go

It's a fair point Peter. BR did get it wrong. I can only think its down to a lack of fitness having not payed for 2 months before he signed.

Absolutely.
Makes a change to know someone apart from our main man Suarez can be relied upon to do something with the ball in the final third, plus make those follow up runs after shots that we've not had anyone doing since fecking Garcia was with us years ago.

Yup

Clearly It's impossible to praise a player for coming on, scoring a goal and changing the face of a game.

I get that he's not 100% fit.................... but he didn't exactly struggle to get through 45 minutes today.

I really really think Sterling needs a rest, though, for a god few games. He's been playing a crazy amount of games for 17/18 year old with a child's body.
