Pre Match Man City (H) - Sun 15:45

Manchester City have not won a Premier League game against another team in the top five all season.

Sunday will be difficult. They've looked relentless in their last few games. We have to get at them early, but that's something they seem to have combated in recent encounters, what we have had against them is a bit of resilience and the ability to claw out a goal when we've not played particularly well (Trent at their place, Salah in the late one on one). It's a hard one to call. We have to just be on our game, no passengers, no fatigue - luckily Gravenberch isn't an option because he's too much of a bystander for games like this, and Trent is out, meaning they will find less space to expose behind us. We need a big game from the backline and keeper, no fucking around like in the Arsenal game, no putting ourselves under pressure at the back by pissing around with the ball against a side that presses well. And Macca and Endo need to dominate, someone needs to be on Rodri from the off.

Luckily, Kelleher seems much more inclined to put his boot through the ball to relieve pressure at the back.

I know everyone says their main playmaker is KDB, but if we stop Rodri, we disrupt everything about them.

Key battle will once again be in midfield.

It will be an Endo vs Rodri showdown. You cannot give him time on the ball because he is one of those rare DMs that can also attack, dribble and release those killer passes.

Do not be surprised if they will try to close our midfield down quickly when we have the ball because i think they will play our own tactics back against us too. So it's good to have Szobo back because he's pretty good at pressing and we need the extra man when they start to gang up on Endo for example, which they will surely do.

Stop Rodri. You stop City.

I wouldn't be surprised if Elliott plays on the right ahead of Salah. I think Klopp might think it helps to flood the midfield a bit. There's loads of ifs and buts about this game though. Elliott is more likely to give the ball away a lot. But then an unfit Salah might do the same. But Salah is more likely to come up trumps with a goal, so fuck knows.

Another interesting point I heard raised : going to Anfield is a totally different challenge to City's week in week out 'challenges'. The emotion and crowd do have an effect and have an impact on them. City only winning x2 in the past 20 seasons I think it is, once under Guardiola (lock down season - no crowd).

----------------Kelleher--------------
Bradley--Gomez---VVD----Robbo
----------------Endo----------------
---------Szobo------Macca--------
--MS/HE------Nunez-------Diaz--

I'd personally be inclined to play Gomez at left back and go with the extra solidity, but then Quansah could go either way in a game of this intensity and magnitude. Let's hope it's not about individual mistakes of one of the younger inexperienced lads like Quansah, Bradley or Kelleher.

Yes. We will need our 12th man.

This will be the biggest game of our season.

It may send Pep into therapy for a good while., if we win.

Who's the ref for this game ?

Oh great, they definitely will on Sunday then
I mean, if we lose we lose. I don't think we will but it may be one of the sternest tests we've had, considering City are at a full strength and we have 3-4 starters missing. But then ... it's Anfield and no-one, like NO-ONE thought we could come back to beat Barca 4-0 with Mo. & Bobby missing and Shakiri and Origi replacing them. The Anfield Effect.

Endo isn't vs Rodri. It will be Endo vs KdB and Macca + Szobo vs Rodri. If Macca & Endo play as they have of late ... we win.

The real question is who says he is, as there isn't currently anyone saying the likes of Fat Sam, Brucey or Pardew aren't either.

Whilst I agree on the importance of Rodri - we also need to swamp Stones who will be doing the inverted role for them. We just need major high press and relentless gegenpressing from our midfielders (particularly Macca & Szobo all over Rodri, Stones, Ake) and Endo smothering KDB.

In their recent games Haaland has played no role other than trying to get on the end of chances - we just need to ensure we cut out the supply.

Gomez against Foden would be ideal, but Robbo might really step up for such a huge game. I think yesterday he was managing his output.

I actually really fancy us at set pieces now too.

I agree I think Robbo loves these games and also raises his game to another level. We need someone who can kick and frustrate Foden.

Fitness permitting. If there's a chance they can, they should all start. It's a six pointer and we simply cannot afford to lose this one.

I share the concerns about Robertson, especially from tonight. His boots looked stuck in treacle.

It's a game where we will need Anfield to be dialed up to the max.

As good as braley has been I can,t see him handling Doku...
I would play
Kelleher

Doku missed training earlier this week.🙏

Doku was a huge problem without really being a huge problem in the reverse game, if that makes sense.

Goes past fullbacks for fun or he'll cut in and whip a cross in past his fullback and he'll get the better of most the 1 on 1s with any of them but he's incredibly raw with his end product.

Last Klopp v Pep battld possibly.
Listening to some of the podcasts was something, seems general feeling is the interms of quality and rivalry in PL historically there has been none better and will be be remembered even fondly in a few years time.

No real update regarding Konate from Klopp.
Said that Ibou felt he made the right decision going off when he did and said he felt fine last night.
But it's still uncertain

Klopp's as fed up as the rest of us that he doesn't even bother knocking on the physio's door to get updates anymore because he knows it's only gonna be shitty news waiting for him.

"Just tell me Sunday morning if he's fucking fit to go or not" he says in an exasperating voice.

Yeah, he sounded dejected yesterday when asked about, he again said that Ibou felt fine, but there's probably something.
So, I'm a bit pessimistic regarding his chances of playing against City.
Do we play him and possibly break him or do we rest him and get him fully fit against Man U?

If I didn't have any faith in Quansah to step in then I'd say risk it, as that's not the case I'd rest him for Utd.
