Thing is the second goal is just a cross into the box, nothing to do with being a man down. We had 5 players in the box, none of them picking up the runners. When the ball gets delivered both Jesus and Silva (I think) are totally unmarked 6 yards out. Mane wouldn't have made any fucking difference, we can't defend for shit.

Not sure what you guys think of Ming on the 1v1. He comes out, lock his knees and just sort of stands there. He was beaten a little too easily for my liking.

I can't complain about him for any of the goals.

It doesn't matter if it was a red or not (thought it was a bit harsh but understand why he gave it).

Decisions will go against you from time to time and to capitulate in that manner is inexcusable.
We need to see an appropriate response from the team in the next game.

Losing to City away is not the end of the world but losing Mane for 3 games is a real kick in the nuts.

Thought he could have done better with the last one. He, Sane and every fan watching knew where the shot was coming.
Knowing where it's going and having the ability to stop it are 2 different things though

It was a wonderful goal

The whole thing is my fault. A friend who has just built an awesome bar in his house invited me around for an inaugural drink with the footy. He secretly hates Liverpool though and we have a terrible record if I watch the game with him. I knew this, but seemed rude not to.

I think if I had to pinpoint the thing that pissed me off most, it would be that I was at work, and happened to be in Shepherds Bush, so I had to find a pub to watch the game in, and first I had to argue with the doormen to let me in because it was a home fans only pub for QPR on matchdays, and then I paid £14 for a pie and a pint for the privelidge of watching us get fucking bum raped.
And I was IN SHEPHERDS FUCKING BUSH!

Shit day. No redeeming parts.

And i wasnt in a position to get my cock out.

The defending on the whole, regardless of being down to 10 men, was atrocious. It's no better than it was when Klopp arrived. Someone posted stats and bollocks about the last few games, but you can't excuse it. We shipped three on the opening day and another five yesterday, we also shipped a few in Europe. Klavan has been a terrible buy and I've ran out of patience with Matip, elegance only gets you so far.

Does Klopp know how to organise a team? I don't think he does, we have a midfield as brittle as it was under Rodgers (arguably worse) and the backline doesn't function when it's on the back foot. The only time we defend well is when we dominate teams, and even that's not a given, because we keep the ball away from the backline and avoid danger. If this team is asked to defend it's always likely to concede, which isn't good enough for a club that aspires to win things.

Gomez needs to come back in at right back, he's a defender first and foremost and knows when to tuck in to protect the centre backs, TAA is all over the place positionally and Moreno is a disgrace. Get Gomez, Robinson and Lovren back in and at least we're slightly better.

Klopp needs to sort this defense out sharpish, because at the minute it's meet the new manager, same as the old manager. I don't give a fuck what anyone says.

I think, with the benefit of hindsight, the decision to take Salah off for Chamberlain was a mistake. Our only way of getting back into the game was getting Otamendi sent off, who was having a mare against Salah and on a yellow. Klavan was an unmitigated disaster all game, and Gini was brushed off the ball so many times I lost count. All in all, a day to forget.

Keep saying it ... Firminho on his own up front is shit. Needed Ox on to replace Firminio. I feel so fucked off with this result kinda ruined my weekend ... total humiliation. Also did Moreno do anything wrong yestarday...all the shit came from TAA side except last goal from what i remember.

I don't agree about the organization bit, considering how solid Dortmund looked for a few seasons under him apart from that one season where'd most of he team seemed injured.
But you're right, the players you mentioned must come back in (fuck Lovren not being '100%'), and Klopp needs to make it a point to sign better players at the back.
But seriously, our midfielders really really don't help the cause. Every time we look vulnerable in open play you can see the massive gap they leave between defence and midfield. How thick can they be? It becomes a free for all with the good technical players.

There's little point overanalysing such a lopsided aberration.

It didn't tell us anything new; our defence is no better or worse than when we started the match, in spite of the dent it might have made to our goal difference.

Perhaps the one valuable insight we can gain from it is how we react to this thrashing. And I for one hope that anything less than an immediate and robust response will finally persuade Klopp that he owes no loyalty to and should be prepared to cull this bunch of weak minded fools.

Has Klopp given an explanation for taking Salah off?

I just assumed with Mane out for 3 games he didn't want to risk Salah any further on a lost cause (I know he said he believed there was still something to play for at HT but who is really buying that).

Klavan shouldn't see the pitch again this season. Or ever. Lovren has his mistakes. Matip has his mistakes. Klavan has no redeeming qualities though and whoever he partners with suffers from his presence. He needs to be gracefully retired from the side.

I still cant understand taking Salah off. As doc says he was destroying Otamendi who was just a bad tackle away from a red. Having said that I'm not sure Otamendi being sent off would have weakened City.

I'm sure it was a precaution. Look now hopeless we were without pace when Mane went to AFCON. We really need Salah now and probably thought it's not worth risking him for an inevitable defeat.

Watching Scott Dann in action for Palace today, it occurred to me that he is one of the best CB's in the Premiership. It's a pity LFC could not have got hold of him. He's 30 now but he is a genuine Scouser and even had a season ticket at Anfield for a while.

Taking Salah off was a mistake, but the game was over at that point so I didn't really care.

No way were we pulling a 2-0 deficit away to City with 10

[article]But in total the Reds made just 15 tackles in the whole game, alongside nine fouls.

To put that in content, in the same fixture last season - that wonderful, free-flowing 1-1 draw - the Reds make 29 tackles. Pretty much double.

Maybe they just couldn't get close enough to their opponents?

The lack of bite was most prominent in the middle of the park.

In the engine room, in the heat of battle, Liverpool's midfield three of Henderson (0), Can (1) and Wijnaldum (1) made just two tackles.

Defending is not just about tackling of course. You can jockey, shadow, close passing lanes, and work across without racking up a single tackle.

And to be fair, the trio made six interceptions and five clearances between them.

Yet it always felt far too easy for City and as captain it is Henderson who will perhaps be under most scrutiny.

Comparisons to his illustrious predecessor are generally worthless but it is difficult to imagine him going through a similar 90 minutes with a zero in the tackle count box.[/article]

Should have turned to defensive mode to make it hard for them. They are not that brilliant - no team in the world is. Our lot were cowards and should have ... never mind .. this result is humiliating. Cannot even get a hard on ... its hard to take guys. The only plus was Klopp saying man city should not take too much confidence from this game.

I thought we were better than them till the sending off.

The billion dollars they spent on their defence looks questionable.

Disappointed in Salah, made me think he's nowhere near as good as we thought/hoped. End product was shit. Having Linford Christie on the wing would mean he'd skin people but, you need to do something with it. I was glad he was taken off, he was getting on my nerves.

Gomez is a much better defender than Trent.

Klavan is useless but then we (not Klopp obvs) knew that.

Our midfield is pretty lame, other than the lost money, I don't really care what Can decides to do with his career. Wijnaldum is absolutely useless in a tight game. To be fair, the whole midfield is a 'start again' for me.

Moreno did nothing wrong but I just want him gone so we don't have to discuss it. Please play Robertson.

Klopp again proves he can't handle game decisions on the fly. Like a lot of our players, when everything's hunky dory, we're fuckin ace, best in the World. When you throw a poser our way, we're thicker than a bull's cock. And that includes Klopp.

Disappointing that we rolled over for a bumming. The time Sane had at the end was criminal. Learned a few uncomfortable truths Saturday and they should be addressed.

Guys ... done some scouting and if VVD dont sign for us then let sign this guy.

Guarantee we would win 100% of our games without conceding a goal.

The obvious thing to do with 10 men is go 4-4-1 and keep it tight with 2 banks of 4 and then look to break. I would have taken Wij off and put Ox on the left of a 4, with Salah on the right.

Klopp's decisions just invited pressure onto our pathetic defense even more.

I turned it off after they scored their third so I can't say much about what happened afterwards.

So what did the Man C game tell you/me?

1. We desperately need a defensive midfielder.
2. Our back line is fucking crap. I think TAA was the wrong player for this one. Gomez would have been better suited.
3. Being down to 10 men doesn't excuse 4 extra conceded goals. Klopp still hasn't got the defence right.
4. Our midfielders are too inconsistent.
5. Never expect a good result after an international week. Especially if we're playing away.
6. We desperately need a CB. Klavan doesn't cut it.
7. We lack creativity from midfield. A fit Coutinho would have made a difference. However at his current he wouldn't.

I think there are some over reactions there, the first goal followed on from a slight foul which went unseen, I think it was on Wijnaldum, but the head tennis could possibly have been dealt with better, you cannot argue with the quality of the through ball however and no great defensive signing could have prevented that. The second goal was the death knell of the game and that happened when deep in first half injury time.

City played really fucking well and we had our attack blunted with the sending off, it gave them greater confidence to roll over us and although we got smashed we didn't just give up which is good to see.

I disagree that our midfield is inconsistent, but yes we were also missing two of our creative midfielders and they do count.

I really like Salah but he has to improve his one on one finishing he has got a few goals but in terms of chances he has had available he should have twice as much.

Yeah... It was depressing to get smashed but before the sending of that looked as though it could have been a great game.... bad luck played a big part in that game...
