Man C post game discussion

To be honest I think conceding 5 goals with 11 men on the pitch would have been completely possible in this game - although without losing Mane we might have scored a couple. City were't even turning up the pressure for large parts of the game. In a way, it is good to get the calamity game out of the way against City away, as that is a game you wouldn't necessarily earmark points against. If we get out act together immediately, it doesn't need to be too catastrophic.

Has Klopp given an explanation for taking Salah off?

According to the Guardian Klopp seemed to be under the impression we were playing Sevilla on Tuesday. If thats true he may well have pulled Salah to rest him and considered the game a lost cause.

I reckon that was just an act ... seriously..you a manager of a club the size of Liverpool and you dont know when your next game is ?

Nah, I dont think we would have conceded 5 with 11 men. There was more of a chance that we would have gotten back in the game.
The red card changed the game completely.

The lack of fight in this team and both individual and collective responsibility doesn't seem to have improved at all since under Rodgers.

I doubt that. I think the most likely scenario was resting him after playing 2 international games were it was rumored he injured his knee in the first one.
The game was lost, give Ox some minutes and keep Salah fresh for the next few games. We're playing 7 in a short space of time.

I don't think we would have conceded 5 goals with 11 men still on the pitch, although our defence is so fucking dreadful, anything is possible.

What's most concerning is that Klopp appears to have learnt fuck all, and has absolutely no clue what to do when Plan A - actually, there seems little point in labelling it "A" given there is no other plan - doesn't work. But that lack of options or having any other way of playing football is something that most discerning fans have been discussing since he arrived.

There were many other areas of obvious concern:

1) Not buying another CB when VVD clearly wasn't coming is nothing short of gross negligence, given Matip and Lovren aren't good enough, and the Estonian Binman is one of the worst defenders in the entire league. Matip is sloppy and lackadaisical and is utterly hopeless in the air, but is - hilariously - probably our best CB.

And does any cunt think Mignolet or Karius are good enough? Apart from Klopp?

2) The lack of collective responsibility, and inability of any of the central midfielders to exert any influence, was utterly criminal. We know Wijnaldum is a fucking spineless shithouse, but what's Henderson excuse? He's supposed to be the captain. It was gutless and shameful how totally we capitulated. While it's no shame to lose to a team like City - they're a better side with better players - it was brutally obvious that De Bruyne was causing total chaos, but Klopp and his players simply allowed him to run amok and could do nothing about it. There was no sign that we were even trying to limit the damage.

3) The in-game management was retarded. Salah offered our only outlet with his pace, and Firmino was doing his useless flabby melt impression, so why was Salah taken off? Especially when the player who came on was the hapless disaster Oxlade-Chamberlain - did anyone want us to buy him? He's now conceded 9 goals in his last two games for Arsenal and Liverpool, which is as many as he's ever scored in his entire career! - who was predictably dreadful.

4) We've conceded 11 goals in 6 games so far this season. That's 2 per game. It's horribly clear that when we can't overrun the opposition and the "gegen fucking depressing" tactics don't work, we are simply FUCKED.

That sort of display cannot be ignored or put to one side as "just one of those days". It wasn't all about the red card and bad luck.

It was an early season fucking wake up call for Klopp and every one of his goofy acolytes.

Ermm... that was the first time we've lost against a top team in the league under him.... We are a shit load better to watch in my opinion...

Even after that horrible game I'm still more optimistic than I was under Rodgers.

Yeah Saturday was shit but there is being upset and there is patent whinging... fuck that... we are three points off the top of the league and if it weren't for a highly dodgy line call we would be 1 point off having played Arsenal and then CIty away with just ten men.

Amazing how having no plan has made this our only ever defeat against City since Klopp joined. It was one of those days. Where we went down to 10 men against the best side in the league. Didn't help that our midfielders didn't turn up, mind. And yeah, Klavan's shit.

I agree, it was one of those days.... maybe I'm getting old but.... I'm still optimistic.

We wilted though. As soon as Mane was sent off we just downed tools. It's not new. There's so little fight in this team when things go against us. We don't have players who will take the game by the scruff of the neck, or at least try to, if things aren't working. We don't have those players in any area of the pitch really. We need better players, certainly in midfield and defence, but more than that we need players who hate losing, and I'm not sure we have any of them.

Losing this game wasn't a catastrophe and we have a very good manager and some very good players, but we lack spine when decisions go against us and that's been the case for a long time now.

Our midfield had 2 tackles in total all game. Thats just fucking horrendous, and not normally the level we see against these top sides.

To be honest i dont think man city have that type of player when things are going too bad. United have rashford and ibra to push them and spurs have kane and deli but i dont see too much from chelsea. The problem is most players are mercenary cunts. I think Henderson has it in him but he is too worried about getting injured. We needed some maturity in that midfield and only got some when Milner came on and managed to draw some fouls out of the city players.

Watching Scott Dann in action for Palace today, it occurred to me that he is one of the best CB's in the Premiership. It's a pity LFC could not have got hold of him. He's 30 now but he is a genuine Scouser and even had a season ticket at Anfield for a while.
Weren't we in for him at some stage?

I still cant understand taking Salah off. As doc says he was destroying Otamendi who was just a bad tackle away from a red. Having said that I'm not sure Otamendi being sent off would have weakened City.

It certainly wouldn't have made up for our best striker going.
