Tbh, I would have rather we played Hendo for 45 minutes today, even a whole game, and he not played against Madrid.

We played the worst team in the league and lost. You'd like to think we could sacrifice a shit Hendo and still beat that. Did absolutely nothing when he came on in the half hour he did play btw so not sure what difference would an extra 15 mins have made?
Hendo is a vocal leader.
No one in our midfield could do that, and I've yet to be impressed by Virgil's ability to lead the team forward like Hendo, or Milner, can.
Robbo can ... but Hendo is the heart and soul of the team still, which is a problem.
With Spurs winning, and Newcastle having 2 games in hand, I just hope today's loss of 3 points (should have been of 2) won't be one we look back on ...
And now we have Man City, Arsenal & Chelsea after Madrid knock us out of Europe.
I think that's uncharitable to Hendo today. He was decent out there but our entire side was out of sorts. We had enough matchwinners on the pitch that him playing tidy should have been plenty.
A vocal leader is supposed to pick the team up at desperate times & encourage the team to keep going both on and off the pitch, a vocal leader comes out after games where we've played shit and accepts responsibility. We've not really seen much of that at all from him....he looks very relaxed and you can't just judge someone's leadership when we're winning titles.
We've won those titles, in part, with his leadership. He's not infallible - none of our players are - but he was decidedly not the issue today.
