[article=http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/liverpool-arsenal-have-both-activated-luciano-viettos-e20m-release-clause-as/]Spanish newspaper AS today reported on the three way battle to sign highly rated Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto.

Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool have all reportedly activated Vietto’s €20m release clause.

The 21 year old Argentine forward has scored 20 goals in his first season in Spain, having started only 17 La Liga games and 10 Europa League matches.

Vietto told Spanish radio that Atletico Madrid would be his first choice, with Liverpool allegedly his last choice of the three interested parties.

AS report that Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is a big fan of his young compatriot, who scored the winning goal in a 1-0 Villarreal win over Simeone’s men.

Liverpool are certainly in the market to sign a new striker, with their four strikers combined managing only 13 Premier League goals in the 14/15 campaign.

The lack of Champions League football on offer at Anfield looks set to cost them over their pursuit of Luciano Vietto.[/article]

Opens thread, reads Liverpool would be his last choice.
Closes thread, nothing to see here.

Villareal are currently doing a tour of Australia.

Last night they played A-League side Brisbane ... and got thrashed 3-0.

Luciano Vietto ... was just garbage last night. Barely got into the game, got completely marked out of the game by our defensive mid.

Then when Villareal received a penalty at 2-0 down, Vietto stepped up and tried to do the old panenka and completely missed the goal - (4th minute in the video below)

[article=http://www.marca.com/en/2015/06/20/en/football/spanish_football/1434818524.html]During an interview with TyC Sports, Diego Simeone talked Copa América, Leo Messi, Luciano Vietto's imminent move to Atlético and the club's failed attempt to sign Carlos Tévez.

"Messi is number one, there's no other player today that even comes close to him", Simeone claimed. Asked whether Messi can be compared to Maradona, 'El Cholo' replied that such comparisons are "not fair", in part because of their roles on the pitch. "Messi is much more of a finisher, Diego played all over the place. Messi has won four Champions Leagues, which unless I'm mistaken, I don't think many people have done… Hopefully Messi can lead Argentina to victory in the Copa América and then a World Cup", the coach stated.

Though it has not been made official yet, Vietto looks for all the world to be Calderón-bound and Simeone is thrilled: "He's very smart tactically. He scores goals though he's not a natural-born scorer… I see him as very similar to David Villa at the beginning of his career, although without as much goal threat, but with the ability to work for the team, float between the lines and link up with the midfield and attack. We've got high hopes for him".

Simeone talked understandingly about Tévez's decision to spurn the overtures from the 'Rojiblancos' seemingly in order to rejoin Boca Juniors: "I didn't speak to him, but Atlético did. He has Boca as an option. What's important is for a player of his class and stature to end his career where he wants because he deserves it, and he's very much loved by the Argentinian people".[/article]

Luciano Vietto has signed for Atletico Madrid, confirms Villarreal president

Argentine striker Luciano Vietto has been sold to Atletico Madrid, Villarreal club president Fernando Roig announced on Monday.

Vietto, 21, joined Villarreal last summer from Racing Club in a reported €5.5 million deal, signing a five-year contract with the Yellow Submarine.

The forward enjoyed an impressive debut season in Spain as he scored 12 goals in 32 league appearances to help the club finish sixth in La Liga, and Villarreal have reportedly accepting a £15 million (€20.9m) offer from Atletico.

"We have sold Vietto to Atletico Madrid," Roig said in a news conference on Monday.

Atletico coach Diego Simeone knows Vietto well having signed the player from Estudiantes while he was in charge of Argentine side Racing Club in 2011.

Simeone's side are keen to strengthen their attacking line this summer given the impending sale of Croatia international Mario Mandzukic to Juventus.

Atletico finished third in the Primera Division last month having won the title in the 2013-14 season, and will play in next season's Champions League.

Vietto had previously said in April that it would be "a dream come true" to play alongside Barcelona's Lionel Messi.
