And the opposite is equally true.... Thats the problem.

I don't think many people have claimed he's brilliant or that he's always performed well, he struggled but steadily got a grip on Premiership football, last season and for much of the season before he performed consistently and impressively. Not just for two games, across the season up until he got injured. There's not many players I've seen handle Toure like that.

That game against city when he destroyed yaya was the defining moment for me. Amazing.

You see that's a bit like the time Anderson bossed Gerrard. People look at one good challenge and extrapolate out that the whole game must have been like that.

That tackle was the icing on the cake, and you'd agree if you watched the game again with that in mind.

Here's the thing.

We've never finished in the top four, or close to it, with Lucas as a starter. We never will.

And there you go again, ignoring what most are saying, that he was shite for a long while, then turned into an absolutely fine player.
He did great when Dalglish was brought in. I can't understand how some can't see this.

Thing is Ross, is it the fault if lucas, or that we sold our best player/poor managerial changes?

Half of your statement was right (we havent) but the opinion part I disagree with

It's partly Lucas' fault.

I don't think you can afford to have such an ineffective player in a top four midfield.

I'm a fan of his, but I'm waiting to see how he recovers, and how our team building goes

Allen will share the defensive responsibilities with him this season. We'll see a more effective Lucas higher up on the pitch.

Lucas has been magnificent since the beginning, the only thing that has improved has been
people's ability to perceive his incomparable brilliance.

Yeah the top 4 thing is nonsense. Chelsea have been a CL team now for a long time with a player like Mikel playing 40 odd games pr year.

That said, Rafa fucked up royally when he sold Xabi and bought the Italian permacrock. Lucas wasnt ready to be a first team player. But I'm guessing we're seeing the positive factors of Lucas playing an entire season now though.

I think Lucas is at a stage where he is good enough that his position doesn't need to be addressed when transfer windows come around. Sure, there are better players out there, or players who may one day become the best DM ever or whatever. But the point is we are much, much more in need of addressing other issues and so for me Lucas has to remain a started for us. He has become very consistent and shows passion when he plays which for me has earned him a place as a certain first XI player.

If we don't finish in the top 4 its not just because of lucas, its because the team wasn't good enough. We only made 8th last season, does that mean suarez and gerrard are crap? So to say we're not gonna finish top 4 with lucas in our team isn't even a logical statement.

Lucas is quality and IMO the best defensive midfielder in the premiership (yaya toure isn't a defensive midfielder before anyone says anything).
