Henderson was worth £8m so on that basis Lucas is worth £12.5m, so I am right.

regards
Im no henderson fan but he's not worth £8m when you take into consideration his age and "apparent" potential. Lucas is worth more than £12m easily. His value to our team makes him a £20m player as thats how much it would roughly cost us to find the same level replacement. so no you're wrong.

well you took my tongue in cheek remark about Henderson's valuation seriously Glen
that's because when i first saw henderson i thought of him as a £6m player and nothing else. Now i think of him as a £10m and thats it. So you were nearly right ;-).

Why would we even consider selling Lucas, firstly? He's one of the most consistent and key-members of our team, but being a defensive midfielder, most won't see that.

For the most past, he's been used as a 'Ball-Winning-Midfielder' - So his job is to break up the play, and start the next attack, which he does, he's one of the best in the Premier League at doing so, too.

He only played 12 games last season (due to injury) and made 68 tackles, the only player who made more was José Enrique, and 11 of our players played 20+ games, so you can see his determination to win the ball back.

He's a tidy passes of the ball, too.
Probably the best new post ever.
Gets a like from me.

Go and check out our form and results pre and post 29th November.
Then tell me hes not worth much.

Lucas is class.

It was a hypothetical question, a good one at that and I think Skully makes a good point.
Up until about three weeks before he got injured, I didn't get what the basis of the Lucas adulation was, and am still a little cautious about the canonisation he receives in some quarters. I think we did miss him badly last season, but that was in tandem with Gerrard being missing too, and any team that then has to play Spearing, love his cotton socks, is bound to be struggling.
Lucas polarises views , but strangely only Liverpool fans views, I don't think anyone else tales gives a fuck be honest.
As to the original hypothetical question, I suppose around £12m-£15m in an open market.
Ross also hits a bit of a nail on the head.
The area that Lucas has really capitalised on be it unwittingly is is attitude and the way he has got his head down and worked hard to improve massively, and for that he is cut a lot of slack and has ridden a tidal wave of admiration and sympathy, which has developed into a Moonie sect in some areas.

Its not just liverpool fans that have been talking about his importance - its also some of the pundits on TV and radio, since he was injured we were a different team. I think its really silly when we moan that bids have not come in for him. How many bids came in for SG over the years from other clubs apart from the known Chelsea one ? - I think last year and the year before he was starting to cement his place as a very important player for us, but to get noticed in that role you really have to perform and do great things for a least 2 seasons constantly and not be out injured for as long as he was last season. Also its about demand and importance that other teams place on the position he plays that can determine his valuation. I think most of the top teams have adequate people for that position of high quality and thats why no bid has come in for him from the other big clubs in Europe. However, that does not bother me as it means that he will not be unsettled - we all get a litle nervious don't we when bids start coming in for our important players don't we ? - if you don't believe then please read the Agger threads !!! 🙁

Nothing. He was crap to average for several seasons and then had a good ten game spell followed by a potentially career limiting injury.

We are all keeping our fingers crossed he plays like autumn 2011 again

Lol. If there was an anti-RAWK that post would fit in well there.

He's one of only about 2 or 3 players in our entire squad who can consistently find the mark with first time passing, his touch is first rate, control is instant (most of the time), he can use both feet, he never stops running, tackles everything (as formidable has already pointed out) and his passing can be outstanding so long as he has movement. He came here from Brazil where the movement is exceptional and naturally struggled a little with our statuesque approach to this side of the game. On Kenny's arrival we started moving everywhere and, shock horror, suddenly Lucas was spraying passes everywhere and everyone was saying "where has this passing been"? He'll flourish under Rodgers more so than any other player IMO - with the possible exception of Suarez.

The two defects in his game, as I've said many times, were the freekicks he was giving away and his shooting. He sorted out the freekicks before his injury. If he can sort out his shooting we'll have probably the best DM in the league.

let's be fair. It was a lot more than 10 games.

name me 5 better defensive midfielders in the premiership. he's far from average.
He's decent by current DM standards in the EPL, players like Mikel, Anderson etc should be no where near a top 4 teams midfield but just because there's a dearth of decent DM's in the league doesn't mean we should not be looking for the new Essien, Makelele, Viera, Mascherano etc.

Lucas is not at their level.

People should stop judging him as the kid that joined. He was quality last season up until he got injured.

He was very good in 2 games; against City and Chelsea, in the other games he was better than our other midfielders but still didn't play particularly well.

I don't believe that to be true. Lucas is by no means world-class, but to suggest that he only performed in two matches last year is idiotic. You only need to contrast results before and after his injury to see the significant effect Lucas was having on our team.

The old Lucas was shite.
The one from the short period of last season, as well as the latter part of two seasons ago, was one of the best deep lying midfielders in Europe.
His discipline, tactical awareness, short passing game, success rate in dispossessing opponents were quite astounding.
He's going to be absolutely vital for us together with Allen and Gerrard this season.

I don't think anyone came in for Hamann. Nor Hyppia. Nor Carra.
Were they shite Ross?
