I think the central position requires more discipline and maturity, which I think Henderson has rather than Shelvey. Jonjo, for all his talent, is prone to a rush of blood to the head and mad Gerrardesque sprints beyond the front players.

It's a shame because he was at the top of his game, the only slight positive is that we've got a few of the big games out of the way, but still, what a pain in the arse.
Shelvey, Spearing, Adam and Henderson isn't that bad, it'd be better if we had a bit more quality in the wide positions. Spearo has done well when he's stepped in and I thought he played well last night, him and Lucas gave them a torrid time in midfield. Shelvey is a good player, hopefully he can continue his Blackpool form for us.

Tiote is pretty good. One of the better midfielders in his role/position in the league. I have to say that there seems to be a paucity of good central midfielders in the league. The ones who used to be good at Chelsea are showing signs of their age. We lost ours and the only remaining world class central midfielder has been injured for a while. United have not head great CMs since Keane's retirement. Arsenal lost Fabregas, and but they have a couple of youngsters who play at a reasonably high level. Toure is no world beater, but it seems like he is the best in the league at the moment, which doesn't speak highly of the quality of players in other teams.

Lucas has been playing out of skin for the last few games and (despite what some say) has improved markedly this season.
I don't think Henderson or Shelvey are going to replace him. The most obvious choice, at least for now, is Spearing. He looked decent enough last season so deserves a shot.

The annoying thing is Henderson would replace Adam better than Lucas out of the too, Henderson isn't a DM. Luckily we've got games against some weaker midfields to figure out what will work. I like Henderson but Spearing is the more logical replacement. Still, big opportunities for Henderson, Spearing and Shelvey.

Fuck me I've championed the little orc on here for bloody ages (and backed Lucas for a long time too) - but if we've pretensions of a top 4 finish we'll surely need to think about getting another top-level dm (rather then rely on one)?
