I have doubts over Wisdom's ability to pass the ball under pressure – that seems to be one of the key requirements for the corner CB positions in this system and that's where he is probably behind the competition. On the plus side, he did earn Rodgers' trust very early, so he still might be given a chance to show what he can do.

I know what you mean - I haven't seen him much for either Derby last season or West Brom this season, so I can't say whether he's made much progress in that. I suppose the positive is that having played right back for 3 seasons now (that's where he's been primarily deployed while on loan), he should now be better experienced / developed and comfortable in defending out wide, which is an ability that the flank CBs need.

Has anyone who has watched West Brom much (my condolences) comment on how Wisdom has been doing?

I wonder if Flanno can possibly play RCB. He certainly has a perfect mentality for it, but the big question is whether his physique can possibly suit a CB role.

I've wondered that. Tbh I've wondered before whether he might make a good CB full stop, let alone as part of a three, except that his lack of height might be too much of a problem. But as RCB that would be less of an issue.

Not sure if I see any other problem in terms of general physique. Well, except that he's been injured for ever, of course. What the hell's wrong with him??

Flanagan at RCB sounds like a nice idea. He's actually not that short too, surprisingly. At 1.81m, that's just 3cm shorter than Emre, and as you guys have mentioned, the lack of height is less crucial as a flank CB than the other stuff he can offer. I like that idea a lot. Better still, if he can master it, he'll be equally capable of playing in both flank CB positions.

Last update in the middle of this month was that he's doing full speed running now. Wonder what's the knee injury about - no news about him tearing a ligament but yet like Enrique last season, the whole season's been a write-off.

Seems Lloyd Jones' loan at Cheltenham has been cut short. He was initially there on a one-month loan, and it got extended to the end of the season, but then cut short 2 weeks into the extension, after Cheltenham sacked their manager.

From what Michael Beale mentioned, it seems the loan window is open until end March, so we could still send a few more guys out on loan yet, if there's interest.

LFC youngster denied La Liga move

Liverpool youngster Rafa Páez has been denied a long move to Eibar in Spain because of an administrative error.

The Spanish club released a statement today about the failed move:

"SD Eibar sealed a loan deal on 30th January 2015 for Rafa Páez from Liverpool, and the same day, sent all the corresponding documentation to FIFA, within the established period of time for him to be granted the transfer.

However, FIF announced on 2nd February 2015 that there had been an administrative error in processing the deal which needed resolving immediately, which occurred immediately.

Days later, FIFA communicated to Eibar that the transfer was denied for having sent the paperwork out of the prescribed time period.

On 16th February 2015, Eibar presented a case to the sole administrative judge at FIFA, a formal request to grant the transfer, along with two documents signed by Rafa Páez and the Spanish Football Federation(RFEF), which endorsed the position of the club.

Having analysed all the documentation, said judge has confirmed the denial of the transfer, despite that all parties were in agreement that it was a simple administrative error, which was corrected immediately and with the documentation sent on time.

With this decision, FIFA leaves Rafa Páez without the opportunity of playing for the remainder of this season."

Jones joins Accrington Stanley on loan
12th Mar 201

Liverpool Football Club can today confirm that Academy defender Lloyd Jones has joined League Two outfit Accrington Stanley on a 28-day youth loan deal.

Jones, who arrived from Plymouth four years ago, is a cultured defender, whose progress earned him a place on the substitutes' bench for the senior side's trip to Fulham in May 2013.

Earlier this year, Jones joined Cheltenham Town on loan along with Liverpool teammates Kevin Stewart and Jack Dunn, and the 19-year-old racked up six appearances for the Whaddon Road club.

The youngster will now spend a month at Accrington under the tutelage of Liverpool-born boss John Coleman, whose side currently occupy 15th place in the standings.

Danny Ward joins Morecambe on loan

Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward has signed for the Shrimps on a month loan.
Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said: "Danny is a highly regarded young goalkeeper and we look forward to working with him over the next few weeks."

Kevin Stewart scored on his debut for Burton Albion against Plymouth, with a deflected long range shot. Dunn wasn't in the matchday squad.
Ojo was an unused sub for Wigan against Boro. Sinclair wasn't in Wigan's matchday squad.
Teixeira started for Brighton, who lost 1-0 to Norwich.

Liverpool youngster Jordan Lussey has impressed in Wanderers training

First published Friday 3 April 2015 in Sport by David Pye

WANDERERS will convert the loan of Liverpool midfielder Jordan Lussey into a permanent deal this summer.

Neil Lennon confirmed the 20-year-old, who arrived from Anfield last week, will be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Lussey had worked with development squad boss Iain Brunskill in the Reds’ Academy and will continue to learn his trade, for now, in the Under-21s.

But Lennon likes the look of the Ormskirk-born playmaker, who also showed an eye for goal with a fine strike against Burnley in a midweek friendly.

“Iain has been looking at a few players of Jordan’s ilk,” he told The Bolton News. “Jordan is on a free and we definitely like the look of him.

“He will be under Iain's tutelage for however long it takes. But he looks a good player. He has a bit about him and there is confidence about him already.”

Meanwhile, Ben Amos will be heading back to Manchester United after the Easter weekend – but for how long?

Lennon confirmed he would not be extending Amos’s loan spell any further as Adam Bogdan and Andy Lonergan have now returned to full fitness.

But with both of his senior keepers out of contract in the summer and Amos also available on a free transfer, the Northern Irishman certainly isn’t ruling out the chances of working with him again.

“It's someone we will have to sit down and talk with,” he said. “I don't think we will be extending the loan again because Bogdan and Lonergan are fit now. But he has done terrifically well.”

After coming on as a substitute in the 4-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest, Amos has gone from strength to strength, conceding just five goals in seven starts.

And Lennon admits other clubs are likely to rival Wanderers for the player’s signature in the summer.

“It is something that interests us but I am sure he will create a lot of interest himself with his performances,” he said.

“The loan for him and us has worked out very well.”

S. Ojo---------Wigan - Unused Sub
J. Sinclair------Wigan - Not in squad
João Carlos----Brighton - 74 minutes in 0-2 defeat
D. Origi--------Lille - 76 minutes 1-0 win.

Iago Aspas----Sevilla - not in squad
D. Ward ------Morecambe - Played full game in 3-1 win
L. Jones------Accrington - full game in 2-2 away draw

Notes - Origi really should have opened the scoring - blazed over as he struck a bouncing cross ball.
WBA are leaking goals like crazy now and still Wisdom cannot get a game. Ilori back on bench with the first choice RCB fit again

Yeah shit luck for him really. I think that might just be his Liverpool career hopes over, or at the very least derail his plans by a year. He'll miss pre-season, and then when he's back fit by year end, he'll probably get a loan stint out instead as the rest of the team will be even further ahead of him in terms of experience, fitness, familiarity, etc. Just very bad luck for the lad; feel sorry for him.

I think the only other loan guys who are getting meaningful minutes now are Jordan Williams at Notts County and Lloyd Jones at Accrington Stanley.

Luis Alberto has been out injured for a while. Will probably be staying at Malaga for another season I suppose - don't think we'll be recalling him at the end of the season and the Malaga manager seemed interested to keep him for the second year of the two-season loan arrangement.

Wigan hasn't been using Ojo and Sinclair as they're stuck in a struggle for survival and are going down the tried and tested route of sinking with the more familiar senior players who got them into the rut in the first place. If Rotherham don't lose against Reading on Tuesday, Wigan goes down to League One. Go Rotherham!

Dunn hasn't kicked the ball for more than 20 minutes at Burton Albion though Stewart has played a few games.

Ward's dropped off the Morecambe squad now that the senior keepers are back from injury.

This happened earlier this month - Lloyd Jones (on loan at Accrington Stanley) scores a long range effort over Danny Ward (on loan at Morecambe) in a 1-1 draw.

Highlights of the game below. Jones' goal starts at around the 3' mark of the clip; looks like he plays on the right of a back three.

Kevin Stewart came on as a sub for 10-man Burton Albion and scored the late winning goal against Cambridge United to help his team win the League Two title. Well, actually, they'd have won the title anyway even if they'd lost this game, as Shrewsbury went down at Plymouth. Anyway, well done to the lad. Now he comes back to the U21s to help them in their push for the league title, with I think, 3 games to go.
