It was an important win, however we weren't at our best and didn't need to get out of third gear again.

Ratings

Ming 6 - Not too much to do, i'm in too minds about the goal, on one hand it came at him quickly, on the other it looked like he had glass wrists. Great save to keep it at 0-1.

Milner 7.5 - Probably one of the best LBs in the league.

Lovren 7 - Recovered well from a shaky start, unlucky not to have an assist.

Klavan 7.5 - Solid, kept Crouch at bay. Didn't even see them much the whole game

Clyne 7 - Quiet first 30 mins like most, got forward well 2nd half.

Wjinaldum 7 - Sets the tempo, occasionally sloppy, almost needs one to go in off his backside to get his swagger going.

Lallana 7.5 - form of his life? Definitely the form of his career here. Great finish to get it to 1-1

Henderson 8.5 - It was like a throwback to Xabi Alonso today, sprayed the ball around with ease. Deserved a goal.

Mane 7.5 - A constant menace, would have scored had Imbula not got there first, we will miss him in January

Firmino 7 - Good finish, but was missing too often for me to really push for MOTM. Before his goal that miss was bad, bobble or no bobble.

Origi 6.5 - Plugged away, but not much joy today.

Subs
Sturridge 7
Can 6
Moreno N/A

Klopp 6 - 4-1 up, i'm sure 90% of us wanted either Woodburn or Ejaria, but he played ultra conservative for no reason.

Mignolet (6.5) continues to look a different keeper.
Milner (8) does the man never sleep too !
Ragnar (6.5) nothing flash but secure
Lovren (6) this would have been a 4 based on the first half where he was atrocious, launching himself (and occasionally the ball) into midfield, losing out and leaving the defence a man short. Made amends in the second with a much improved performance. I really really really hope Matip is available for City/United/Chelsea etc.
Clyne (7.5) was excellent and very involved today - bar a moment of laxness when leaving Mane to mark the inbound cross for their goal.
Henderson (7) shite shooting and quite a few misplaced passes (3-4 ?) loses him a point. One superb 50m pass when off-balance.
Wijlnaldum (8.5) I thought he was excellent. Everything seemed to go through him and he just kept playing the right passes and fighting strongly to keep hold of the ball or to win it back.
Lallana (8.5) he's back. So vital to our team now, when he plays well we play well.
Firmino (7.5) such a key figure in our attack and some great tracking back. We have a few technically superb players who keep possession and kep us ticking over in or around the opposition's penalty area. He is one of them. Had one disappointing shot when I thought he should have scored though.
Origi (6) Some nice flicks and passes would launch us on the attack from defensive positions. Nice assist (shame Mane didn't get a touch to add it to his name). However a little too quiet for the most part.
Mane (6) Another week where he tried a bit but which didn't come off. Would have scored but for Imbula's toe.

Sturridge (7.5) Nice finish when presented with a Xmas present. Otherwise also looked dangerous and I thought something was going to happen every time he received the ball.
Can (7) Kept us ticking over. Strong and determined - looks like he really misses and wants to get back into, the first team.
Moreno (5) apart from his trade-mark attempted foul from the floor and a pass straight into touch I hardly noticed him. Oh had a goal-bound (I think) shot deflected.

Klopp 8

Great win after a shakey spell when they scored.

Great to Studge back in the goals and rest a couple of key players.

Shame Ming had one of his moments.

Massive game Sat now, win and we have a small gap between us and City

And talking of Mignolet's "mistake", it seems that Carragher would take Joe Hart to Liverpool. He hasn't obviously seen him of late.

I'm surprised how many pundits in England have no idea about football in other leagues – they never seem to watch Bundesliga or Serie A games, for example. So any opinions they have on players are solely formed based on their time in the EPL and maybe Champions League or international football.

Like when Matip came here, he was treated as a complete unknown, despite playing almost 200 Bundesliga games. Wijnaldum was judged 100% on his time in Newcastle and Origi based on a couple of games for Belgium at the World Cup. Very few pundits (like Gabriel Marcotti) have more of a global perspective.

Hart isnt the answer at all. One of those players the pundits seem to rate on old form and performances.

Ming - 6 - A de gea saves that goal, but alas, he's not and he actually played a solid game for himself, and a key save on Joe Pirlo.

Clyne - 7 - solid game. Defensively fine, and more adventurous than usual attacking.
Miler - 7 - same as above
Lovren & Klavan - 7 - The first 20 minutes, I'd have given them a 5-6 ... They were really struggling, but they played really well afterward.

Henderson - 7 - I thought he was really poor the first 30-40 minutes. Poor passing, and struggling to dictate the play. As with Everton, he picked it up and played really well the rest of the game.
Lallana - 7.5 - another goal, courtesy of Magic, and another game where he's maintained that level of involvement which was lacking last year.
Gini - 8 - MoTM - he's a really good, classy player.

Mane - 6 - was given ample opportunities to create, and rarely did. But his pace and movement are absolutely key in breaking teams down.
Firmino - 7 - he struggled early on, but got a goal on a really good finish and was far more involved in the 2nd half.
Origi - 6 - had some really nice passes, mostly to Mane (and the assist on the 3rd goal). Overall though, struggled to put his mark on the game.

Subs:
Studge - 7 - nice xmas present ... Hopefully, it gives his confidence a boost. We'll need his goals when Mane goes to Africa. Nice to see him smile a few times too!
Can - 6 - some nice runs ... I don't see him breaking into the midfield if Hendo/Lallana/Gini are healthy ...
Moreno - 6 - meh.

The 2-1 half time lead flattered us ... Stoke really could have really punished us but good teams win when they struggle, and we did for 30 odd minutes before a Magic gift and Firmino finish ended their game. Another win, setting up a massive Saturday clash.

#LFC have now scored 100 PL goals under Jürgen Klopp, in just 48 games; the joint quickest of any #LFC manager, same as Kenny Dalglish:

We simply had the win that given yesterday's results and I thought we'd slip up to be totally honest.

We struggled in midfield first half, Joe Allan was bossing it, Firmino and Mane did my head in, kept giving it away, Mane provided no protection to Clyne whatsoever, Origi couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag. You could see though that Stoke were absolutely knackered and we totally overran them second half.

I thought Mignolet had a very good game, I don't put any blame on him for the goal and he made a terrific save to keep Stoke at arms length.

Lallana was head and shoulders better than the other attackers and it was really hard to pick other MOMs. I went for Henderson and Milner but on reflection Wijnapdum was probably better.

Atmosphere was good for a change as well.

Last hour we were very good.

Mignolet made a key save at 0-1.

Origi's first touch play was excellent.

Milner proving to be a very good outlet on the left.

Shame Moreno's acrabatics didn't go in 🙁

Origis link up play was excellent. Great assist for the third and was involved in the first goal as well.

Mane still falls down when he knows full well he's not been fouled, and even when he is he's so OTT the ref ignores him. Today he decided he'd been fouled - probably rightly - but he just walked away instead of playing to the whistle. Horribly unprofessional. No wonder Klopp called him over and told him to shape up. Really good player but he needs to wake up.

He did the opposite at one point though, he got fouled and stayed on his feet and got fuck all.
