Everton have gotten 6 points from their last 10 games.
If the season was a few games longer they could have been relegated.

Martinez praising the team effort though..

Oh, I missed that game. Thanks, I'm a bit less worried now. Although you'd still like more consistency from your most talented player.
To be fair, he was played in the middle this game with Firmino on the left and Lallana on the right.
He does seem uncomfortable there at times.
I think Coutinho should stay on the left while Firmino takes the central role. I mean he didn't do any better than Coutinho usually does on the left.
Klopp has lots to think about before the final.

29th minute applause, I think it was too do with Chelsea fans being thrown out for setting off flares in the ground

Nope. The Kop started singing "stand up for the 96" and everyone stood up and clapped for a couple of mins.

Apologies if quiffing, just got out the game now and not read the full thread.

I thought Coutinho nominally started on the left in this game as well, but yeah – he was pretty much playing centrally the whole time, as was Firmino. Heatmaps from both players confirm that. Overall this performance reminded me of a Rodgers team – lots of tippy-tappy stuff around the box with little penetration and vulnerable to the counter-attacks. What was less Rodgers-like was the last few minutes when we didn't lose our heads and found a way to at least avoid defeat.

Yeah you're right Firmino and Coutinho switched places at times, both drifting inwards.

I'd love to see him vs WBA. Had a great season.

Klopp says Canos is back with #LFC and could play v West Brom.

Strange game. The players were clearly playing within themselves, avoided a few heavy tackles & didn't seem quite as committed as usual, but it's understandable as most, if not all, that starting eleven will be expecting a starting place in the final.

That blue flare the Chelsea fans let off was utterly pitiful. The chant of 'what the fucking hell was that' from the Kop was genuine.

They sang three different songs about us. They sang two songs about themselves. Both classics though "Chel-sea Chel-sea Chel-sea", & the much more complicated multi worded "Come on Chelsea", which I'm fairly sure was too much effort for most of their travelling contingent to remember.

This game was a good reminder of the biggest systemic problem of the current squad – lack of genuine pace and penetration up front and on the wings. Sturridge's natural tendency is to drop deep, which can be pretty exasperating when the other 3 attackers are all doing the same, crowding the middle and making it easy to defend against by, once again, crowding the middle defensively. Then Moreno and Clyne (and sometimes Milner) become the only outlets on the wings and they are both not great creators. This is why Ojo has been making such a difference even in short time on the pitch – he is the only player who is able and willing to beat his man on the outside and put a quality cross in (this is also where Ibe has failed to make an impact, as he keeps trying to cut inside and shoot, which is not too different from what Coutinho and Lallana are doing).

If we want to seriously challenge for the league next season, we should use the summer recruitment period to become more like Bayern, with their large collection of speedy wingers – Douglas Costa, Ribery, Robben, Koman, even Götze to some extent (not a typical speedy winger, but a great dribbler and crosser of the ball). If we do that, it will also open up space for players like Coutinho, Firmino and Sturridge to do what they do best. Those kind of games like tonight show that for all the progress Klopp has made with the current squad, we need some real targeted infusion of quality to make the next step.

Very good point.

Hence...
Götze IN
Lallana OUT

Also Ojo has to be on the bench for Europa League game. Well unless Origi and Hendo are back.

I also thought Chelsea defended well, and fought off our pressing in midfield very effectively. In my opionion we deserved at least the draw, because we created so many chances during the game, some of which we missed through lack of sharpness and some through sheer bad luck and great keeping by Curtois.

Many great chances? Courtois? Someone clearly didn't watch the game... 🙂

Klopp said in the post-match interview that after the first 15 minutes we lost all patience and lost the compactness of the formation and that the players need to learn to trust in themselves much more and "we need to develop a lot." Unhappy about "5 or 6 situations when player shoots in a situation he should pass." The players won't be resting on their laurels before the final, that's for sure.
