Liverpool v Sunderland Match Thread

Sterling did more than Lallana, Lambert, Coutintno put together!

All those players deserve less than Sterling. Sterling deserves the highest mark out of that lot on today's performance.

Coutinho will continue to be ineffective with Lambert and Balotelli infront of him.
There is no movement at all.

Last season compared to now is night and day. I find it bizzarre that we didnt go for players who fit into the system instead reinventing the wheel once again.

Two moments of real quality in the match today for us today, Stevie's pass to Coutinho and Raheem's run to beat 4 men.

If the outcome of those moments fell to Sturridge, or I hate to say it Suarez, we would have got the 3 points today.

Strangely enough for Sterling's run, brilliant though it was, the better option was to knock it in for Gerrard before he decided to beat 4 players... Stevie was in acres and would have received it on his right foot 18 yards or so out...

It was a weird game in a way.. i'm not furious nor worried just...it was a strange kind of shit really...not really shit but still shit anyway...couple of flashes of dangerous but not consistently dangerous, a few shaky moments but generally good at the back..

The positive I'll take from it is that Mig's new instructions have worked a treat, so that's one less thing to worry about.

Last season Coutinho was threading wonderful defence-splitting passes for Suarez and Sturridge to run on to. This season it's not happening and he is often deeper than he should be.

I don't think Coutinho has got worse, I think that at the moment there isn't anybody producing the runs to benefit from his passing ability.

CBs almost always have over 90% passing stat ! Look instead at the passes that went astray..

I have kindly posted a image which shows you all the passes that went astray. Not one of the 3 passes he misplaced was in his own half.

I didn't say that he was penalised for the fouls and gave away FKs - he was still committing them but got lucky except for trying to sit on Wickham's face.

He has played 12 games this season and committed 10 fouls. Less than one per game. Last season he played 36 games and committed 28 fouls and using you're logic he is obviously the luckiest player on the planet.

Maybe, just maybe, he's good at fouling players when the referee isn't looking, like every other good defender in the entire league. And maybe, you can see more fouls as you are sitting at home watching it on tv with 50 odd camera angles that the referee doesn't have access to.

Your criticism of him for this, is bullshit.

We don't need stats to see how much Skrtel fouls ... do you ?

I had to get some shit from the old house & take it to the new house during the second half. Sounds like it was more fun!

91% Passing accuracy and 1 foul
Yeah, I was non-plussed by the Skrtel rating too. One foul (late on), cleaned up well behind some Toure blunders and strong in the air. Thought he was very good.

Johnson assessment was weird, IMO, too. He cut off Sunderland attacks down that side it was monotonous. Kept stepping forward and gave them no room. Was one of his best displays.

Lucas and Johnson at the back were my picks. Sterling up front.

Henderson needs to be dropped for Allen who is in a better position to help us. Or maybe Can - I keep forgetting he exists.

I've defended Coutinho this season on account of the lack of movement around him but today he was wasteful and that was no-ones fault but his own.

I'd give Markovic a run of games. At this point we've got nothing to lose. We need another player that get in behind defences and he's all we've got.

7 points from the last 3 games is good considering what was there beforehand.

Yes, we're struggling but Lucas and Toure's additions have stabilized the fort and we've only given up 1 goal in 3 games - that's a positive start.

We need to figure out how we're going to create more goalscoring opportunities ... Maybe go with the Barca 4-6-0 formation and let Sterling be the 'false 9' ...

Nah, that doesn't work for me.

We couldn't break down fucking Stoke. Stoke FFS. That's a serious issue imo.

Sterling is fucked, Rodgers needs to start resting him & putting the player ahead of his own gain.

That aside though, he needs to get the team playing basic attacking football well as a MINIMUM. We know he can't set the team up to defend. As such he should be able to take advantage of the opponent's shortcomings & score a goal or two.

Seems it wasn't just me who thought Skrtel shite either :

Sky Ratings have him joint lowest and Sky User Ratings he's also joint lowest (with Coutinho). Moving on to the Echo Skrtel is rated a little higher, but not much at joint 8th/9th with Coutinho 11th of the 13 players.

Not breaking down Stoke is one thing. They should have drawn vs Utd and beat Arsenal yesterday. They're a solid team.

Sunderland though. That was awful. We should have won yesterday. No excuses.
Rodgers did nothing during the first half and our first shot on target was in the 60th minute.
Horrendous.

I dont like Borini. But why not have an extra striker on the bench vs Sunderland at home? Ridiculous.

What a carcrash of a thread. Even if it is a Ferrari.

Golden nuggets mixed with death wishes and top draw kneejerk.

All the reasons I'm rarely here and why I always come back.

I nominate this thread for the vault.

Merry Xmas, SCM.

Lol. I was most drunk when I tried this. I meant Sunderland obv.

Yay! A point, back four kept a clean sheet and @Leo and @Modo have a rather entertaining bust up a few pages back that ends in someone wishing death on the other. It's not all bad.

I actually never saw the game so maybe it is all bad....

Modo being victimised in another match thread? Poor guy, people really do go out of their way to pick on him.
