Liverpool v Sunderland Match Thread

Seems it wasn't just me who thought Skrtel shite either :

Sky Ratings have him joint lowest and Sky User Ratings he's also joint lowest (with Coutinho). Moving on to the Echo Skrtel is rated a little higher, but not much at joint 8th/9th with Coutinho 11th of the 13 players.

LOL.

They had Skrtel at a rating of 9.7 after the last game. Do you really see them as a reliable litmus test?

Well it depends who you are referring to as 'them' ? There are three sets of ratings there : Sky's own, Sky Users and Echo Users. I have never seen 9.7 for anyone so if you can provide a link that'd be great (and you can shove it down my throat) ! More than likely you checked it after only a few votes had been cast whereas by the end of the weekend (or should I say 2-3 days later) the poll is more representative of the true feeling.

And whilst we are on the subject of Skrtel and his fouling (whether he gets called for it or not) there's this as well (quote from after the Palace game) :

Carragher was also critical of his former defensive partner Martin Skrtel who hauled down Dwight Gayle to the build up to Palace’s third goal.
“I played alongside Martin for a long time and he was doing that from day one,” he added.
“Skrtel shouldn’t be grabbing shirts.
“He’s known for it now throughout the league.”

Seriously Froggy, you're on another world with your Skrtel fouls line. Telling everyone that just because he didn't give away a free-kick doesn't mean he didn't commit a foul is nuts. Kasper fouled Gerrard but wasn't called on it. Do you think his teammates hammered him? The hell they did - he was applauded.

In other news, Lampard and England put Germany out of the world cup - except it wasn't called but Germany probably feel real guilty about that.

As for Skrtel's rating - it was 3 days after the game so that was enough for me.

Now you're going to extremes Wiz. If you have a problem with the quote, and my take on his fouling, then take it up with Carra - because he, along with many on here, doesn't find it at all acceptable !

Yeah but you don't rate Skrtel, that much is clear because you lay into him after every single game. He didn't have a particularly bad game at the weekend, he wasn't bad at all, and we've finally started keeping clean sheets now that the carcrash has been binned off and we are actually playing a DM, so ergo, maybe it's not all his fault after all eh?

Lovren's mistakes this season are pretty high profile and easy to point out, so I'm not sure why Skrtel's been getting most of the share of the flack.

It's not that I don't rate Skrtel per se .. it's just that he's bang average and so makes himself an easy target. He reminds me of CBs like Yates, big powerful CBs with little or no finesse about them. He made 4-5 mistakes at the weekend that could have resulted in something for Sunderland but on each time he was either bailed out or got lucky. And no-one can deny his shirt-pulling and clambering all over players when it really isn't necessary.

I think the change to Lucas and the quality of the opposition (Stoke, Leicester, Sunderland) has more to do with the clean sheets than Skrtel. We still conceded two against Ludo in that time.

I haven't given Lovren or anyone else a free pass either !
